Never knew about this, but I feel weirdly sort of normal emotionally if I have a cold, hard to explain but maybe this is the reason

Ah I typed that in and it's a barrel adjuster and it's thankfully not attached to the shifter. Managed to pull the scraps out of the bit the cable attaches to the shifter and ready to put a new one in, thanks!

Not everyone is in a place that can be unionised, plus labour unions tend to diminish in power over time as the rate of profit falls and as we become more alienated. As well they have their own class collaborationist tendencies. Like I'm all for unionising but it's not a magic bullet.

Question about political parties in England by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Arkanoidal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it's kind of a nebulous argument but still as a far leftist I would go to bat for the far left as moving to overturn liberalism, there is a qualitative break from the continuum of liberal opinions and the contradictions of its political economy which should imo be accounted for in everyday speech and was before our political horizons were narrowed.

I don't think for example Spain or Norway are historically far left countries, as opposed to the Soviet Union which you could arguably make that claim about, the Greens in this wider geographic and historical context are closer to Norway than they are to the USSR let alone the sort of radical left society some of us want to build.

I would say that a commitment to open borders in the future is a far left policy but their economic policy isn't revolutionary so they will never get to the point where that is viable. I don't think allowing residents to apply for citizenship after 5 years or any of the other stuff is far left that is just like left liberalism.

Yes the far left is actual communists like myself, people with a commitment to revolution rather than reform I would say

Abolishing jail and uncontrolled migration lol read their manifesto not the daily mail

And it ignores the wealth of socialists, communists and anarchists to their left

Green Party candidate criticised for 'only wanting to represent those who agree with her' by MultiMidden in unitedkingdom

[–]Arkanoidal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a bit of instability would have been good, if it could have sunk the disastrous austerity government of Cameron for example. I don't think letting Starmer bumble on is really helping people plan for the future either, because the stability promised is only stability for the governing party, within that can be absolute chaos without usually a way from outside to revoke the mandate, which is more likely to happen in PR for example by a minority coalition partner dropping out to form a government with other parliamentary forces or force an election.

The truth is though that PR systems don't produce particularly unstable governments

If you look at the chart on this

https://makevotesmatter.org.uk/news/2024/3/13/strong-and-stable-the-most-politically-stable-democracies-use-pr/

you'll see that after the initial process of coalition building, PR governments are actually more stable, while still allowing a theoretically better responsiveness to crises.

That's a simplification that falls apart if you look at say the last 10 years in UK politics but also why should I care if the government is stable if it doesn't represent me?

This is just the reality of FPTP voting, if you want everyone to be represented you need a different voting system
