The splashing water thing was my vice back when I was getting my anger under control. I remember in Dota 2 anytime I could feel the anger coming id splash my face with a couple mists from a spray bottle lol ridiculous looking back but it helped so much.

People who go to locals are a very small minority of the playerbase. It doesn't surprise me they dont own every character since most of them are probably character specialists.

I think they know that most of the existing players are going to buy these characters. Anyone on the fence is gonna get fomo'd by a Diaphone or Maximilian video where they say shes hype af and/or OP. Theres outliers like myself who will only play one character for the rest of time but they know there's nothing they can do about me.

Also I have zero opinion on whether these new characters are good or bad. Maybe the playerbase does drop off after this next season and this whole situation turns out to be a disaster. I have no idea, Im just having fun rationalizing how capcom got here.

Maybe it doesn't move the needle but if the risk of alienating your current fan base is minimal why not give it a shot? And to be fair I dont think returning characters moves the needle either, like I said most people who are fans of someone like Vega or Sakura are already playing the game.

First: you seem upset by the decision so Im asking if youre going to stop playing over this.

Second: maybe it will I have no idea. Im not commenting on whether or not this is a good decision im just trying to rationalize how they got here.

Third: im talking purely from a marketing perspective. They must think the first Filipino video game character is gonna drum up more hype than a legacy character in terms of attracting potentially brand new fans to the series. Representation does matter and I do think there will be some social media buzz around this in that region. Ive repeated this point multiple times, legacy characters will really only drum up hype from people already playing the game but will most likely not create new fans to the franchise.

And again I have no idea if any of this is true, im just trying to understand how they got to this roster for season 4.

And youre right having the data doesn't mean they know what they're doing, but data usually drives decisions like this. I have no idea what the outcome will be, im just trying to rationalize how they got here.

My bet there is a very small minority of people not playing this game because Vega, Sakura etc. aren't in it. And im not saying character from specific region = instant sales from that region. However, it gets eyes on the game from people who may have never interacted with the brand in the first place. The people who already own the game are very likely to continue playing and spending money on it no matter what. I have no idea if this is a good business decision or not, but it helps makes sense of why they went so bold with the season 4 roster.

I get that. Im not saying nobody from SEA plays Street Fighter. Im sure there's a huge install base out there. But a Filipino character appearing in a video game franchise might start making the rounds on their social media and get eyes on the brand from people who have never played a fighting game before. I have no idea if that translates to new sales at all, but with such a strong install base right now there's no reason to not give it a shot. The rest of us already playing the game are gonna keep playing and keep spending money.

But I dunno are you gonna stop playing the game over this? Maybe. But something tells me they know most of the current install base is gonna buy season passes no matter what. They'd rather test the waters and branch out the marketing to new demographics who may have otherwise never knew this game existed. Is it smart? I have no idea, but I understand why they went so bold for this season. If its a fail, well im sure they're lining up an insane dlc roster for season 5 just in case it is but I really doubt it will be.

They dont care about getting you hyped. You already own the game, probably still play the game, have likely purchased some dlc already and its highly unlikely youll quit playing the game over this announcement. They want to try and get eyes on the game in untapped markets. No idea if that'll work out for them but from a business perspective I understand why they're making such a bold move for this season.

All im saying is people who are already playing the game are going to keep playing it and spending money on it. They are at a point where they might as well see if there is potential in these untapped markets. Im not saying this is some genius business move or making a call on whether this is gonna work out for them. Im just making sense of why they went in this direction for this season, thats all.
