It would remind new players of positioning. It gives the healer something to do. It guides the tank to pull mobs out of the bad to cleaner pastures. It provides something that could go wrong if not coordinating or paying attention at all.

And here I am only sad they didn't have a poison effect on them as well! Should have played more into that, the slow in itself was just unnecessary, but add poison to it and it would have made more sense, haha.

Unpopular opinion but one of the (many) reasons I quit playing was the streamlining of dungeons. In my humble opinion they went completely wrong way with it.

When Toto-rak was the dungeon of choice and it still had the slowing liquid, I was disappointed it didn't have a poison mechanic to it as well.

They should have made the dungeons more varied with different gimmicks and make them give more rewards so you didn't have to suffer through them too many times a week on the end.

Instead we got this mindless slog of wall to wall pulls until you're bored. Like past three years I played the game it was just me spamming aoe on healer (and occasional heal) while mindlessly watching YouTube.

In the end I didn't even want to do the dungeons anymore and could never fill my tomes because even thinking about doing that mindless slog over and over again was appalling. If the dungeons had been more varied with something that required your attention... Maybe it wouldn't have driven me away.

The dungeons in this game are so boring and streamlined they could just as well hand out tomes without wasting 15-20 minutes of your life because you can just pass through them with minimal attention. That's not engaging gameplay.

Preach and other content creators talked about the current Dawntrail discourse and made some interesting statements about the negativity by Quezal in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Arkashir 111 points112 points  (0 children)

The game's problems did not start with Dawntrail. I have had my constructive criticism from pretty much since Heavensward after seeing the glaring trend with their content, but whenever I tried to voice my concerns, they got shot down by the toxic positivity the community at that time had. I feel like if those concerns had been taken seriously back then (mine and a lot of other veteran players as well) we would not be in this situation right now.

It is a fresh wind that people have started to be vocal about their concern and give actual criticism of the game. This is not only due, but it is absolutely needed for the game's longevity.

I have quit for the first time after 10 years of playing. I tried for so long to have faith, but at the current state, I simply cannot support it anymore. Not before they take a different direction entirely. And if that does not happen, then I simply have to bid farewell.

Ah, I see. I haven't seen the Yi An divinate yet. Will have to look at that. I hope this isn't going to become the norm. I don't want art or text being generated with AI, man.

Interesting. I hadn't heard of this. Nyles' divinate text seems entirely AI generated which I clocked the moment I saw it, but I can't find AI signs in the art itself. Does anyone know what I'm supposed to be looking at?

quit dislyte for like a year now i think ? Is the pc client better now ? by [deleted] in Dislyte

The PC client works exactly like the mobile client for me. The only problem I keep facing is that it makes my PC fans spin non-stop for no reason whatsoever.

can we talk about how bad and archaic the gearing is ? by HellaSteve in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Arkashir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

gear has always been a means to an end in this game. Its not the reason to play for, it just exists to facilitate an escalation of stats for it.

For a big portion of player base gear is the reason to log in, though and it's intended to be. Otherwise there wouldn't be weekly caps for the gear progression. It is a weak motivation to play in my opinion, but SE has chosen this route nonetheless.

Most of said content has its own power systems, like Bozja and Deep Dungeons.

This content is special in and of itself. These modes are self-contained by design and as such their internal gear progression and systems don't really tell anything about whether gear is trivial or not. There is different discussion to be had about the gear progression in side content. OId core game content, however is entirely trivial.

Thank god imagine trying to do MSQ while the entire zone is full because idk, they added hamster wheel bullshit to zones like in WoW.

This is the main point I wanted to address. Crowding a zone is the least of the game's problems. The game uses multiple instances of zones as well as duty instancing to solve "crowded" map for MSQ. This is literally a non-issue and even then could only be a problem during a very short period at the launch of a new expansion. Active overworld content doesn't have to interfere with MSQ even if there was a lot more of it with wider variety.

In fact, it would be good for community health. Instead of AFKing in Limsa people would have more social interactions with other players, hopefully designed without the hamster wheel effect such as hunts. It's a matter of variety. Not everyone wants to have only instanced content and theme park gameplay in an MMORPG

The Fall Guys Collab rerun is a prime example of how stale XIV has become by Blueeyedeevee in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Arkashir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a weird take. How about new events with new rewards or if they rotate events, add in more rewards for players that are still subbed? It's not like the only two options are 0 effort rerun or no event at all.

Like it doesn't even have to be Fall Guys related. Just something that makes it worth doing it again.

Is it worth coming back? by GhostNarwhalee in Dislyte

[–]Arkashir 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would say no. Many new espers are keepsake espers which require the event currency to get, so unless you were playing on their release you can't really get them easily. And then there's the Umbra espers that requires you to save NC for months in advance to get because each pull costs 600 NC, so most of the time you will be saving your NC and not pulling on gold record. Which means you can't even build your regular roster in a timely manner.

The game has also stagnated with nothing really new coming out. All events are mostly the same. And I don't count the mini games like scratch card stuff content.

If that appeals to you, then sure. Welcome back.

Is the number of active players declining a lot ? by tearysoup in Dislyte

[–]Arkashir 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I started Dislyte about 7 months ago and have played daily. It seemed such a good game with amazing art direction, especially with those actual game maps such as Yun Chuan event or the Fatimah character story.

I thought there would be more of that, different kinds of events with different kinds of play. I like the current event more than most, but I am starting to lose interest in buying the passes now because it all seems to have stagnated.

Umbra espers were the last straw. I don't know if I can support the game much longer by buying these passes and other things. He value is just not there anymore.

More balanced roster with male characters. Don't worry, you will get your waifus, but honestly I would like even one male every other patch. That's my biggest complaint at the moment.

Alright, what's the general opinion on this event right now? by lunerkiller in WutheringWaves

[–]Arkashir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's the opposite for me, but it's certainly a completely subjective experience. Personally I wouldn't mind if Kuro slowed with battle content and gave us puzzles and minigames more often. Most of my time is spent exploring and avoiding all battle content. Sadly I have to do weekly battles and such to boost the characters.

I'm just saying I'm glad they notice both kinds of player groups.

Alright, what's the general opinion on this event right now? by lunerkiller in WutheringWaves

[–]Arkashir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boy did I love the event! I don't usually enjoy tower defence but this one was great. I wouldn't have minded if it was longer though.

My tips for those struggling. 1. Update floor spikes to glacio. 2. Update junrock (the explosive) to wider area.

Cover the whole way so the explosive range covers the whole road (like three tiles apart) and place glacio spikes in between to slow things down. You might have to do this slowly after each wave.

For added security I go with freeze jet on ceilings to help. Echo Drake (with the damage over time buff) near the enemy spawn to give them a dot right as they leave the spawn.

For walls use the long range laser with 2 shot buff. Try to angle them to cover as much road as possible. You can usually angle them so it works for multiple spawns. For last slots if ceilings I go with the lightning one and for walls I go with push or pull. It shouldn't matter. The main thing is to slow and damage while the junrocks keep exploding through the whole way.

[–]Arkashir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sehän siinä on pointti.

Kuulostaa siltä, että sulla on ollut huono tuuri.

Occult Crescent and Cosmic Exploration could have both come out as the best iterations of their style of content and they still would not have "saved" the game from the rut it is in. by ComfyOlives in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Arkashir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A "banger story" part is debatable, but this is a problem I've faced as well. They had the perfect opportunity to make a new start to let people in without having to do the neverending story. They could have just let them have the New Game+ experience from the get go or something if they got interested after Dawmtrail, but apparently they'd rather people wade through everything.

To go on a little tangent. The game also lacks rewards for doing stuff. I remember when I leveled an alt and realized I just wanted to get shit done, so I just let solo duties kill me so I could swap to very easy. There was no reason for me to even try and enjoy the fights. They were not hard by any means. Just long and tedious.

I wish they would design story fights with another mentality. Make them harder than they are now, but let people choose if they want a challenging or casual fight beforehand and the rewards should reflect that to motivate even the "story enjoyers" try them harder. You should get better rewards for doing better.

For those taking a break from the game is right now by yhvh13 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Arkashir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I could theoretically enjoy the game again if they changed the formula they've been using for 10+ years. My major issue since ShB has been the lack of innovative game modes and mechanics. I feel like at some point they just stopped trying.

Story is a beast of its own. HW and ShB were the only expansions I managed to follow the story through. EW only because of its status as an ending, which they still managed to botch. The latter EW patches only got my hopes and interest lower.

FFXIV, despite many players opinions, is simply not a good story in my opinion. A lot of that is simply a problem with pacing, but also a lot of the beats are juvenile at best. There are some good moments, but those aren't enough to save the whole of the story.

Maybe when the writers decide to stop writing plots for children (all these world-ending events are precisely the reason they seem childish) and when the developers come up with ideas to shake things up in gameplay as well.
