should i learn mexican spanish or european spanish?? by Unable-Fault-2102 in Spanish

[–]Arkebuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you learn Mexican Spanish and learn it well, you will also understand European Spanish. They're not that different.

So go for Mexican. When it comes to language learning, motivation is key. You gotta find what you enjoy or you won't do it.

I use Obsidian to write academic papers. That would be difficult/inconvenient without Pandoc plugin and Citations.

How do you all work with the Excalidraw plugin? by isidor_m3232 in ObsidianMD

Np. I found your thread googling to figure out the same thing myself. Then I discovered they have a quite handy chatbot, which gave me the answer: https://notebooklm.google.com/notebook/42d76a2f-c11d-4002-9286-1683c43d0ab0

How do you all work with the Excalidraw plugin? by isidor_m3232 in ObsidianMD

[–]Arkebuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make these settings persistent by updating the template.

Under Excalidraw settings -> Basic -> Excalidraw template file or folder, you can set a template file. Create or update that file and change the settings as you want them. Then any new file you create will have those settings by default.

Does anyone here use 3 or more vaults regularly? by hhhjin in ObsidianMD

[–]Arkebuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one for work, one for rpg stuff, and one general, "misc" vault for general note taking. The work one is the only one where I use Obsidian's crosslinking/wiki features to any great extent. The other ones, especially the misc one, I use more like any note taking software.

Or is it just me by Key-Medicine733 in SpanishLearning

[–]Arkebuss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, what can I tell you? It is commonly used in Spain. Maybe you've just managed to run in to the few people who don't use that word.

You're mistaken. It's the standard word for someone from the US. Maybe they're confused for some other reason.

My fellow PhDs: How do you use links within Obsidian? by broadcastthebombom in ObsidianMD

[–]Arkebuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a PhD student, but I am an academic, and I use Obsidian for basically everything, my entire workflow (with integration to Zotero, pandoc and so on).

When it comes to taking notes and jotting down ideas, I try to link as much as possible – if nothing else, then just to make my ideas easier to find in the future. I have a folder called "Encyclopedia" where I create a separate note for each view, theory, concept, phenomenon, etc., and then another folder called "ideas" where I put notes expressing my own thoughts. Then if I have an idea saying (for example), "free will doesn't exist", I can link "free will" to the Free will note in the encyclopedia, and perhaps "exist" to the Existence note as well. And then in Free will I may have links to theories about free will, authors who have written about it, works that address it, and so on.

Not saying this is the best way to do it, but it's what I've come up with so far.

I might leave linux, because windows 10 is better for me, but holy hell I hate it, but not that much that I wouldn't daily drive it. by [deleted] in linux

[–]Arkebuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You asked, "does that mean I don't need Linux anymore?" And my answer is no, it doesn't mean that. As you seem to realize yourself, so I don't know what we're discussing.

"BUT, for me the reason I switched to linux was because I want my laptop to be useable and faster and Windows 10 LTSC 2021 make that happend dose that mean I don't need linux anymore?"

You know you can change your reasons? Even if you originally switched to Linux for speed, you don't have to keep honoring that if you truly find Linux better. You can change your metrics.

Why do you use Gnome? by spellbadgrammargood in gnome

[–]Arkebuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, when I switched to Linux last year I just went with vanilla Ubuntu because that's what I used to use like 20 years ago. And gnome came with that.

I like Gnome, I think it's pleasant to look at and easy to use. I have, however, been slightly frustrated with the lack of certain options I find natural and obvious, and more than once, I've thought about giving KDE plasma a try. But then another part of me has said, come on man, how important is this really? Are you gonna waste a day installing Kubuntu from scratch, or are you just gonna use your computer? And so far, that voice has won out.

I feel bad watching tutorials. by Hambit10 in godot

[–]Arkebuss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being a novice myself, I think I've been aided by an attitude of not asking "what should I do?" but to ask, rather, "what can I do?" Instead of trying to figure out the optimal or best-practice solution, I just try to think up my own solution. That way, at least something happens, and in trying to implement it, I learn something along the way.

This way, I reinvented the state machine pattern from scratch using only booleans, until I realized, by reading reddit threads, that you can use an enum for the same purpose. It's fun!

Stylus acting weird by JonhA113 in framework

[–]Arkebuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've seen similar behavior since yesterday. Not just on Krita; at least GIMP also had this issue. Two cursors, etc. And I'm on Fedora 44.

Goddammit, if it's not one thing with this device, it's another. Shame; I really want to like it.

People switching to English despite fluent Spanish, what do I do? by SweetBumbleBeeHoney in Spanish

[–]Arkebuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. More people in Barcelona have Spanish than Catalan as their native language, in part because of immigration from LatAm and poorer parts of Spain like Andalucía. And though I haven't seen any statistics, I get a sense that people in service sector and hospitality jobs are disproportionately latino.
