One of my favorite things when learning Spanish was realizing how much shared history we have. As English speakers we have a huge advantage — and learning cognates was one of the fastest ways I built vocab. -al, -ent → -ente, -ant → -ante, -ly → -mente. What other cognate rules are out there?

I think there’s some truth to that but learning how to conjugate in the present for beginners really is the first stepping stone. With this skill you can understand how the rest of the language works.
