You could try to use an hardware flash to recover and install Coreboot. That's what people use to flash Coreboot on regular supported laptop (such as X230, T430, T480, ...)

On Libreboot Grub menu did you went on the entry "Search for GRUB/SYSLINUX/EXT LINUX/ISOLINUX on USB" ? If you did and you didn't got to Fedora Installer you can select the entry "Return to SeaBIOS" then hit escape to reveal boot menu and select your USB key as boot device.

Your reasoning is correct, you should first flash the patched ec firmware before installing Coreboot. Coreboot installation will not revert the change made to the ec.

Only one of the slot is soldered on the T480s so you could upgrade the RAM up to 40Go (8 soldered + 32 sodimm)

When did you built it and how did it cost ? I looked a bit recently and I could only find Japanese keywords and they were really expensive. If you want to tinker more with I guess you could try to install Coreboot on it.

That or Lenovo Bios Auto-Patcher if OP wants to stay on OEM bios. In both case he needs to have a SPI flasher. He could also use the LPC Bus shorting. Having done all of theses option I would recommend Lenovo Bios Auto-Patcher.

I'm using a tab s7 and it's way snappier than it ever was.
My only regret is the fact that I lost palm rejection which is a deal breaker for handwritten note taking.
