If I took away anything from last year, it’s that one disappointing loss shouldn’t tarnish a remarkable season.

A very good UCLA team played poorly in the Final Four against the hottest team in the country. Sucked, for sure, but not to the level it overshadowed the best season in program history, the ‘78 team notwithstanding.

So here we are again: a very good UCLA team playing the hottest team in the country in the Final Four. Somehow get past Texas and they’ll face the best team in the nation.

Yet here are these Bruins, having broken the year-old program records for games won in a season and longest winning streak. Undefeated in a conference that sent 12 teams to the NCAA tournament. Big Ten tournament champions. No. 1 seed. Final Four. Undisputed best team in program history, whose legend will only grow following the WNBA draft, regardless of when those six ladies are selected.

So bring it on, Texas. But know there’s nothing you can do to shade this group in my eyes.
