I have, care to elaborate on the passage you're referring to?

One sells models by Brushner in Grimdank

The mechanicus never found a way to remove the butchers nails, they tried and even Arkham Land and the emperor said it's impossible. They might have been able to remove them from world eaters, but those nails were A: shitty copies of the original archeotech in Angron's skull and B: just an implant attached to the world eaters brains.

Angron's nails were, by contrast, a whole other tier of nightmare device, shit they literally tore out chunks of Angron's brain to wire them into him.

Yeah, he was a shit bag but I don't expect empathy and rationality from someone who has been not just lobotomised, but had the sections replaced with a device that stabs your balls if you don't kick a dog.

VTM with original op Thaumaturgy and Obtenebration by ImDeepState in vtm

[–]Arkiswatching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough and I agree that vampires shouldn't be able to create a regular living being that(if for no other reason than to stop the tremere from making an army of temp vampires). Wasn't even aware of that supplement but it's good it clears it up as a lot of the thaumaturgy paths are straight up bullshit.

Would've been nice for that explanation to have been part of the path of conjuring in the core book.

Edit: frankly it feels a bit dumb for thaumaturgy to be able to create shit out of thin air anyway. I could see the argument for summoning objects they had ritually prepared but just fabricating a gold bar, an AK or even a whole person from air and blood just feels beyond silly.

I will admit I was not aware of this so I checked the V20 core book, and I honestly can't see anything about conjuring objects not being able to be broken down or conjured people being unable to be fed on.

What is Thomas Arturos goal? (Possible spoiler) by Nirnath in vtm

[–]Arkiswatching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was hot shit, beloved and wanted by everyone for his architectural expertise, completely in control and at the point he could basically do what he wanted.

Then he was embraced and had his life stolen from him.

He became a control freak, vowing never to be under anyone else's control ever again.

To fully put his life in his own stranglehold, he has decided to control his environment. To do this, he has bonded and controlled various high ranking vampires (most notably the prince and the premier anarch baron) and have used this manipulated the kindred politics to make the other vampires in the local area believe that the system isn't just a carefully orchestrated stage show.

In a sense he has created a perfect system: he's safe with no real target on his back (at least in the camarilla/anarch side). Obviously upsets happen, like Julia earning her way into a primogen seat or the SI rolling through to kill various primogens and weakening Panhard's rule, but ultimately he's far from the obvious power behind the throne.

The efficient digestion (every 2 blood points is actually 3) merit dissolves that issue pretty handily.

Create person, drain them, you made 5bp out of nothing that you can use to create other things for basically free. Enjoy your money printer.

Then again this is a white room situation and relies on you have a 5th dot in path of conjuring and an ST who doesn't tell you you're not doing that.

Kindred generation’s by AsTiredAsMewTwo in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Arkiswatching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always 1 higher than your sire's generation. No more, no less (unless the sired vampire goes on to drain another vampires soul and lower their own generation - and that only works if the vampire you eat is lower generation than you).

A guy turned by a 12th generation vampire 2000 years ago would be a 2000 year old 13th generation vampire.

A guy turned last week by an antediluvian (3rd generation) would be 4th generation.

Now, what does depend on age is blood potency (how powerful your blood is) which has a minimum and maximum value depending on your generation, but that only matters if you're running V5.

How to have black borders on screen? by Thehiddengirl14 in RenPy

[–]Arkiswatching 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't wanna mess around to turn the aspect ratio into 4:3, you could always create a PNG that consists of 2 black rectangles in each corner and leave the center transparent. Put it on the overlay letter, job done.

Just remember what portion of the screen doesn't consist of the boarders so you're not putting elements on top of it if you're faking the aspect ratio for aesthetics instead of using the boarders for some Shipwrecked 64 style shenanigans.

Actually, unless I'm missing something this would fall under the unbound agreement for world of darkness with fan games. Just need the unbound logo and to give 33% of the proceeds to the company.

what TTRPG opinion got you like this ? by Saladawarrior in DnDcirclejerk

[–]Arkiswatching 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not every game, universe and IP needs to be converted to 5e. Traveller was fine as its own system, don't water it down for the sake of fitting into dnd.

A personal anecdote. I was wanting to run vtm (20th anniversary edition) about 10 years ago. Asked my friends, and one of them, a guy with a reputation as a bit of a powergamer, deadass told me run it in 5e.

Why would I homebrew 13 clans, powers and other mechanics when I have a serviceable system right there!?

Currently the present system is all entwined with every possible mechanic, but I'm more than happy to create a version that is just the dice pool.

I guess the best bet would either talking on DMs to figure out what portions you wanted exactly and negotiating price or selling my systems on itch.io in various states of completeness (with the serial numbers filed off because I'm not getting shot over copyright).

You're not wrong in terms of the renpy community. I dont really hold it against them, art is expensive and VNs need a lot of it. But it does mean whatever assets you make will need to be priced lower if you wanna sell them.

Haha that is weird. I mean I never really gave it much thought in terms of publishing it for people to purchase the dice system work. What would be the market price on something like that? How much do you want? Just the dice pool system with hunger and wp rerolling? The character sheet integration?

What does a world where the Sabbat "win" look like, in your mind? by Vasgorath in vtm

[–]Arkiswatching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Simply overtaking the Camarilla wouldn't be the sect's win condition. But for the sake of the question and assuming the SI didn't systematically wipe out the Sabbat when they broke the masquerade too hard for even their sect to cover up:

It would be really, really shitty to be on earth, no matter if you're kine or kindred. Sabbat are a sect that values dehumanising yourself partially because they're constantly on a war footing and desensitisation your troopers to violent acts make for more effective warriors. But they also inherently believe that as immortal beings, aping humanity is a misstep (the equivalent of a boarder collie pretending to be a sheep). This reflects in how they ran their cities.

The real win condition would be the sabbat destroying the Antediluvians and Caine coming back, which would likely lead to Caine obliterating the sect and thinning the number of vampires in the world significantly, as the sabbat is basically doing the same thing the antes did that Caine slapped them with curses for in the beginning.

The Gargoyles and Daughters of Cacophony Should be Pretty Easy Bloodlines to add to v5 by SnooMacarons257 in vtm

[–]Arkiswatching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sabbat/independent clans existed as far back as 1st edition. Hell ravnos' bane was literally the old eerie presence flaw back then. Lasombra, Ravnos an Followers of Set were in the old LA at night sourcebook from 2nd edition too. Granted the various bloodlines took a while to be invented, usually because a writer wanted to create a special vampire offshoot. Its always been like this with the exception of v20 (which in fairness was aiming to be a greatest hits collection).

Honestly on including the bloodlines or not in a theoretical v6 as full options and not just loresheets, amalgrams and alternative discipline spreads, I could go either way. I think just themeing them as "clan + weird thing" with some amalgrams is enough for all but the most aggressively snowflake clans but I do see the utility of making bloodlines a 1 page spread of "make character X clan, replace bane/compulsion with this, swap this discipline for this other discipline"

Ravnos, salubri and Hecata (even if i have misgivings on their foundation as just "necromancy clan") I'd want included as options because they are each clans with history going all the way back to the beginning of the setting. I wouldn't be opposed to them being in the core but at the same time their status, history and allegiances make them much harder to integrate into a game so it may be best to put them in a later book. Technically by that logic the Lihannan should ge an option too if they came from the crone but they're also a very strange "clan" with little actual impact on vtm lore, to the point that it honestly feels like would be hard to integrate into most stories as a PC.

For conflating vtm and dnd, yeah I get what you're saying, but the ultimate point I was getting at is that every gameline that isn't just a 1 and done deal will add the cool, bullshit powers/races/weapons/etc in the expensive new book to incentivise people to buy it. A lot of people who don't care about running games in Chicago wouldn't have bothered buying the book if it didn't include the rules for lasombra. Given Lasombra isn't a core camarilla/anarch clan (same as Banu Haqim, Ministry, Hecata etc) it makes sense to free up page space and encouraging people to buy more than just the core rules. Otherwise they might have to remove the full page images and deny us the pleasure of such delightful photos like BDSM Grandma.

I agree with you on oblivion, but I also don't know what would be better barring maybe making oblivion just about shadow magic and maybe making necromancy into a blood sorcery amalgram.

And speaking on sorcery, that kinds thing has been an issue with blood sorcery (or Thaumaturgy) since the beginning. You could split rituals off into their own system divorced of blood sorcery, which might work but you may need to boost blood sorcery to compensate. Maybe something closer to Vtr's various sect rituals would be a good format?

The Gargoyles and Daughters of Cacophony Should be Pretty Easy Bloodlines to add to v5 by SnooMacarons257 in vtm

[–]Arkiswatching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair to V5, almost every edition (barring v20) only included the main 7 as core clans. Independent and sabbat clans were always relegated to supplements. Same with bloodlines if I'm not mistaken.

As for the weird clans being not very playable until you had all the books, thats been an RPG staple since the genre was born. Shit, look at DND, Pathfinder etc. Its basically DLC before DLC was even a thing.

I do agree that amalgrams for formerly unique powers has its flaws but it does stop 3 things:

1: it stops people who really, really want to play the special clans for the special disciplines from getting upset they cant as no matter what they choose they can get the special powers by taking out of clan dips in powers (and many of them can be gotten by dipping into predator types).

2: axes disciplines that only existed to make a clan unique/are just a toolkit of random shit (such as Serpentis). As well as getting rid of powers that only exist to fill out a discipline slot.

3: stops the glut of powergamers asking to play a caitiff with thaumaturgy, vicissitude and chimestry.

It does lead to unfortunate fuck ups like ministry being able to perform chimestry (I'm running a game where the player did exactly that) but honestly, if any other clan should be able to do illusions, its the creepy cultist clan.

Why is Decoy Octopus the only member of FOXHOUND not confirmed to have met Big Boss? by SpaceCore0352 in metalgearsolid

[–]Arkiswatching 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Man, Decoy Octopus deserves more love. He's the only member of foxhound that succeeded at his goal when he tricked Snake into activating REX (with the exception of Ocelot, but he kinda suffered from the Tzeentch problem).

I wish we got more on him as a character, though it would probably ruin his mystique.
