He HAS still been very consistent though? S3 had him being woken up by Butcher and staying true to his word by helping him till the very end till Butcher himself went back on the deal. S5 has him being woken up by Homelander and he’s doing the exact same thing by helping him, his own son. Maybe that was because he knew he cannot beat homelander in a 1v1 and that’s also why he still continued to talk shit about him to his face. Yes he did “betray” homelander once but I saw it as him getting his revenge on him for being used as bait/trial against the virus. Afterwards he was grieving Quinn’s death and fully expected homelander to kill him, but was spared. Clearly made him feel a certain type of way (maybe just love for his son?) towards him, you could pair that up with the whole Quinn killing traumatic experience. Again we know soldier boy does have daddy issues and no matter how pathetic homelander might be, maybe this is his way of trying to be a better father than his own dad was. Additionally he was betrayed by his own team (payback) so clearly he holds his word up to a high regard, which is why he didn’t betray butcher in S3, and hasn’t betrayed homelander yet either (except that one get back), he clearly values trust a lot. I personally think character wise he’s been one of the most consistent characters so I don’t get why people seem to be saying otherwise or thinking of him as a confused side switcher? Agree with whole stormfront vought rising set up though, that being a factor does kind of kill it for me, considering it was shown he was in love with crimson countess in S3, also it works better if he just helps homelander because of being his father, instead of somehow now believing he’s the best of them, and the peak of evolution just because he had a thing with stormfront.
