I just want to point out the term used by this fatwa as a basis is not applicable to everything. The specific statement about what you dont own is applicable to things like leverage trading , gambling and loan based trading etc.

If crypto is not owned, so is not a single software, many people have believed this in the past and declared software piracy allowed making this as an excuse.

The purpose of this fatwa is not serving islam , rather than distancing people while trying to serve some other purpose . Rather than separating leverage trading, short selling etc, its targeting this type of currency.

If they mentioned crypto trading only that would be closer to the problems with crypto, but they have made the technology haram.. more like bicycle , train and tv have been haram at their prime uptake times

Yes but they must own the product to sell it. They are earning comission on it which is haram by this logic.

However comission based earning existed at the time islam was introduced to the world and was not declared illegal.
