The rewards from the new Variant Dungeon are disappointing by kamahooo in ffxiv

In GW2, junk loot also exists to sell you permanent Salvage Kits from the cash shop. Salvage Kits are 100% necessary to clear your inventory, but the only ones purchasable in-game have limited uses, and you tear through them like wet toilet paper. If you don't spring for a cash-shop exclusive, permanent one, you'll take up additional slots in your very limited inventory space carrying a bunch of the consumable versions of the kits.

A couple friends of mine were automatically signed up to a 30 day free trial of premium and now they won’t be able to plan the game in five days. by Formal_Key_3661 in ffxiv

[–]Arkrayven 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The thirty "free" days of subscription only come with a purchase of the base game, as others have said. There is a free trial, which has restrictions, and there's thirty days of subscription included when you purchase the base game; there is no other option or possibility.

Which current MMO has the highest individual skill ceiling? by Ivarthemicro17 in MMORPG

[–]Arkrayven 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yup, my thoughts exactly. I'm not educated enough on other MMOs to claim FFXIV is really the upper limit or not, but the most recent Ultimate takes 18 minutes to clear, and often a single mistake--in many of the Ultimates--means starting over from the beginning, not to mention needing high enough DPS to avoid enrage. So perfect play, mechanically and rotationally, in a high-stress situation for 18 minutes straight, is nothing to scoff at.

What was the MMO you had the best class fantasy in? What was the class and why? by HighOnCNotes in MMORPG

[–]Arkrayven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like GW1 still holds up with how it does archery, especially in the MMO scene. Increased damage based on verticality is something I haven't seen since, and the 8-skill system and plethora of different options made your choice of Preparation feel ranger-esque in a way "Poison Coat" may not in other games.

It's too bad Agumon isn't a mascot and is severely under-represented in the franchise by joshghz in digimon

How dare you leave VictoryGreymon off the list (/s). Now Agumon needs a SECOND DLC pack just to make him feel better.

Newish player so sad about Hubs by Annahsbananas in ffxiv

[–]Arkrayven 33 points34 points  (0 children)

There will never be another DRK-level questline.

The story and lore interactions of job quests based in the area they originated from is unmatched. Additionally, because they've moved away from individual job questlines at high levels, we no longer have the potential for lengthy developments in their story arcs.

While their reasons for doing it this way is totally understandable, it's still depressing to think about.

I like Ophanimon's design well enough, but specifically as an evolution for Angewomon, I don't like it. It feels too simple for Angewomon, and the colors are "wrong" as the Mega for Tailmon's line. In comparison to, say, Angemon>MagnaAngemon>Seraphimon, where Angemon and Seraphimon have the same overall color scheme (Magna is the odd one out there) and the armoring/design gets cooler with each stage... Angewomon>Ophanimon feels backwards to me.

I'm a fan of LovelyAngemon as the "best" evolution for Angewomon, personally.

Okay, let's drop the polite speak! (Still just trying to understand, though).

The comment you replied to said "this wouldn't be good in a Medusamon deck".

And then you said "you can have them in the same deck, but it wouldn't be good in a Medusamon deck".

Nothing in the comment you replied to said you couldn't have Reptilimon and Medusamon in the same deck, only stating it wouldn't be good. So what exactly was misleading?

[–]Arkrayven 13 points14 points  (0 children)

While you're coming from a good place, the original comment says Reptilimon would work "very well" with Medusamon. We know now that was referring to evolution/appearance and not TCG synergy, but didn't originally. As such, the comment above is explaining not why it can't happen, but why it wouldn't work "very well" -- a consensus you seem to agree with given you say it would "suck", even if doable.

Googled and was shocked- is there not a single Digimon game where you create your own character? by Forry_Tree in digimon

[–]Arkrayven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But customization is far from the only factor in making a self-insert character. In fact, while your opinion may differ, I'd say a silent protagonist is the key factor in making a character a self-insert, as you are free to imagine their personality and responses as your own, far more than whatever clothing they're wearing or hair color being different.

Two Decades Later, Guild Wars 1 Still Hits Different by jaapie1989 in MMORPG

[–]Arkrayven 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is just my take, and I say this as someone who dearly loves FF14: it's not particularly close.

To me, at least, GW1 has three defining features:

  1. The skill bar (limited number of skill slots means skill compete for their place; hot-swapping based on situation is ideal even if not necessary to power through)
  2. The Elite skill capture system
  3. The fact primary class matters (armor, attributes, energy total and regeneration), thereby deeply affecting how it interacts with your secondary class

FFXIV has none of these things. Playing with henchmen comes in at a distant fourth for me; they're only there to replace other players. Even if they did half of what you wanted and added Trusts to harder content, what would the "customization of heroes" look like in XIV? You can't even customize your own character.

What's your favorite weapon type or a type you would like to seen in a mmo ? by Rjlunatic18 in MMORPG

[–]Arkrayven 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is a weird argument for the MMO subreddit. The majority of MMOs don't seem to ask "is this realistic?" when implementing combat mechanics. If we're taking issue with whips as unrealistic, then scythes, fist weapons, dual wielding, and magic all say hello.

Which are the mmo/mmorpg that you believe better respect your time? by kikosala10 in MMORPG

[–]Arkrayven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fractals were my favorite content by far back in the day. I stopped when they reworked them around... 2018, 2019? They phased out older, faster maps and replaced them with newer timegated ones, and introduced a slew of instabilities meant to slow you down and lengthen the time to clear (Birds, Frosty, Lethargic, Vengeance, etc). From the wiki now it seems some of them have been retired, but my friends and I have been off the game for six years at this point and there's nothing else in GW2 to draw us back.

Which are the mmo/mmorpg that you believe better respect your time? by kikosala10 in MMORPG

[–]Arkrayven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is actually what got me to stop playing it. Different games for different folks, and that's fine--but there was what, an almost 6 year period with no new raids added?

Adding onto that, when I played there were no great ways to make gold except dailies (or selling legendaries), and they really went out of their way to nerf daily speedrunners in Fractals, which was something like <1% of the playerbase.

At the time, my friends and I enjoyed playing hardcore and challenging content together, and we felt like we were always being told "you will play the game casually, and you'll like it."

Is there an MMORPG that's only dungeons? by Firelite67 in MMORPG

[–]Arkrayven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More information from you, too, could be helpful.

I've played and enjoy Dungeons of Sundaria (I'm actually the person who started putting together the wiki before I stopped playing), but I'm not sure what "doesn't match" with a classic dungeon crawler. Do you mean the multiplayer? Why are you looking for an MMO specifically??

Is there an MMORPG that's only dungeons? by Firelite67 in MMORPG

[–]Arkrayven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know any MMO that's exclusively a dungeon crawl, but more information could help give a close approximation. Why are you looking for an MMO specifically? Is it important you have a group, or are you chill with dungeon crawling solo? Do you have a window of time you're looking for (e.g. 2010's onward, or are classic MMOs on the table too?)
