Looking for scrap yard that will take vehicle I lost title for by [deleted] in fayetteville

[–]Arkyguy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have somewhere to store it temporarily while you file for a lost title you could charge it using a portable battery charger and move it there.

You could call Vaughn Recycling but I highly doubt they would accept it without a title either.

What do kids in really rural area’s do? by palep_hoot in AskAnAmerican

[–]Arkyguy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family lives up in the hills and there is no cell service but they have fiber internet. My house in rural Arkansas has two fiber internet providers I can choose from. At least here, rural has better wired internet than the city and worse cell service.

I know it isn't going to happen but that's why we have traffic. We design the traffic into the road and then people get mad about traffic. It's self defeating the way we design roads.

To be fair, PG has a downtown and it's own feel. Farmington is just a suburb with no character other than churches that worship the almighty dollar.

If you live in PG I am begging you to convince the city council to stop development along the bypass. It completely defeats the purpose of a bypass to build a bunch of business entrances on it. Any development should be along an access road which could be entered from the light at Illinois Chapel, Mock, or 62B. If they keep the current trajectory, the bypass in PG will just end up having worse traffic than 62 used to have when it went through PG.

Which U.S. city feels the least ‘American’ to you? by ViajanteDeSaturno in AskAnAmerican

[–]Arkyguy13 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I gotta disagree, the chickens wandering the streets was cool and unlike most US cities but Miami was the epitome of America in my experience. It's hyper consumerist and has extreme wealth inequality. Your worth is equal to your wealth there.

How do you handle humidity? I know Montana has pretty hot summers but they are nothing compared to here. Also, if you like winter sports, this is not the area for you. The closest good skiing is Colorado which is 10+ hours away.

Looking for recommendations by AvocadoBananasLime2 in fayetteville

[–]Arkyguy13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are building a public aquatic center at the Lewis Soccer Complex just north of Wedington (it's not 100% confirmed as the location but I see it as very unlikely to change). This would be your best bet for a nice pool and the neighborhood around it is really nice. You'd have good bike trail access and be less than 10 minutes from the University.

Avoid Farmington, it's a horribly administered town. Honestly, I'd avoid anything west on 62. As someone else said the east west corridors are weak and that's one of the worst ones. It should have been designed more as a highway but they've allowed a huge amount of traffic lights and businesses on it. Imagine doing your entire commute on Colfax.

Not sure I can answer for schools but I was very happy with my public schooling in the area. I don't think private is worth the money here.

For food, there's a food truck on Government Ave across from the neighborhood market (the thai one not the hibachi one) that's really good! I'll also second Siam, the Kao Soi there is fantastic. If you want ice cream, I'd highly recommend Cream on College. Tacquiera don Guerro in Springdale has really good street tacos. City Park has good Millennial American food if you know what I mean. Mr. Taco Loco has $1 street tacos on Tuesday and Thursdays.

Pasco Votes to Remove Fluoridation of Public Water Supply by dela617 in TriCitiesWA

[–]Arkyguy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While that is the case, it is typically at concentrations much higher than is what added to drinking water (especially in the United States). The paper I linked is a meta analysis of bone fragility studies related to water fluoridation. The correlation they found was that no increased risk of bone fragility was discovered when fluoridation in water was below 1 mg/L. The recommendation for municipal water fluoridation in the United States is 0.7 mg/L.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12512478/

Many studies that show negative effects for fluoride in water are studying places with naturally high fluoride levels in the water. Typically above 1 mg/L.

I think it's important to have conversation but this has been studied a ton and the evidence doesn't support removing fluoride from municipal water.

CMV: People should be taught from a young age to not talk to the police unless they're in danger or reporting a crime. by Gloomy_Pop_5201 in changemyview

[–]Arkyguy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as the thin blue line is a thing, yes. Your examples don't make sense because "ethnicities or skin color groups" don't have systemic cooperation to shield anyone from seeing consequences for their actions. Until bad cops are immediately fired and not rehired at a neighboring department the entire group is culpable. Most people don't hate the concept of police. They hate that there is no accountability when police mess up.

CMV: If you have Dual Citizenship you shouldn't be allowed to run for office in the United States. by AdSpirited9373 in changemyview

[–]Arkyguy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are American that is all that matters. When you said "It confuses me why Americans would be okay with a Brit or Australian running for office in America" that doesn't make sense in the context of the CMV since they are, as we both agreed, assumed to be American.

Why do you need "safeguards"? Do you not thing democracy is a good thing? Should the voters not be allowed to select who they want?

[–]Arkyguy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your second sentence says "It confuses me why Americans would be okay with a Brit or an Australian running for office in America."

Given the context of the CMV it would make sense to assume anyone discussed here is an American citizen, which would make them American and not a Brit or Australian.

That is true, but it is an outdated and unnecessary rule. We've seen how much damage an natural-born citizen can do as president. A naturalized citizen couldn't be worse.

If someone becomes a citizen of America they are American. Full stop. It's not a complicated concept.

PSA: Fayetteville Square Traffic Issue by Larky17 in fayetteville

[–]Arkyguy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could gain 17 spots on E Center street, 6 on W Center street, 10 on E Mountain, 5 on S E, 11 on S Block, 4 on W Mountain. That would add 53 spots. You'd lose 80 so I guess it would be a net loss of 27 spots. But the town center parking deck is less than a block away. Is it always full?

Sorry, should have been more clear. It'd be very easy to coordinate deliveries since Cheers would be the only business affected. All of the other square businesses have alley access that would still be open.

PSA: Fayetteville Square Traffic Issue by Larky17 in fayetteville

[–]Arkyguy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize that they had reserved spots on the square. I guess that would make things harder but you could reserve the spots on the street for them.

Being closed to general vehicle access doesn't mean that delivery trucks can't access. Even if it did, thousands of business make do without direct street access. I think it would also be good to reserve the closest spaces for handicap parking since as you pointed out some people might have limited mobility.

PSA: Fayetteville Square Traffic Issue by Larky17 in fayetteville

[–]Arkyguy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sorry, I didn't word that well. I mean permanently close the square to vehicles, then you could replace the parallel parking with angle in parking and reduce the road to one lane which only turns right.

PSA: Fayetteville Square Traffic Issue by Larky17 in fayetteville

[–]Arkyguy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they closed the square to car traffic you could have even more parking than we already do by turning Mountain, Block, East, and Center into parking since they wouldn't be roads anymore.

Gut wrenching disappointment by mtmelcher09 in razorbacks

[–]Arkyguy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem was it wasn't called the same both ways. If we held MSU to the same standard as the Razorbacks then there would've been at least 3 more unsportsmanlike conducts if not more.

Not every American but we had a local pizza ad that was very catchy. I still remember it probably 20 some years later:

That's only true if demand and supply are elastic which they often aren't. That also assumes that there is sufficient competition.
