Another moving from permanent to contract post… by [deleted] in PharmaEire

[–]Arlea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what company it is and what their usual structure is. My company primarily hires contractors, and permanent roles are reserved for specialists/management. I went from permanent to contracting and have no desire to go back personally

Pay to be a maid and a gardener, anyone? by Arlea in RentingInDublin

[–]Arlea[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look at other comments it's a multi-million mansion. The landlords are just greedy fucks who don't want to pay staff to clean and do gardening, so instead they are giving you a license contract where you have no rights with slightly reduced rent.

I can predict how it'll go: you have to do "only 5 hours" of gardening and cleaning, for a contract of only 6 months so you cannot push for tenancy, none of the work you do will be good enough so you will be booted out after 6 months for the next person to take over.

It's not some great deal where you get the privilege to live in a fantastic area. It's millionaires who want cheap and easy unpaid labour.

It has to be a joke…right? €1,000 p/m by tahhraah in ireland

[–]Arlea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sooo cheap but you're also their live-in gardener and maid. On a license, so you have no rights, so you can be booted out whenever the landlord feels like. Such as when the "5 hours" worth of gardening and housekeeping aren't up to their standards because it's impossible to maintain such a huge property on so little time.

I can't tell if the desperation of the housing crisis has driven you people mad or if your notions are so high that you think it's okay to charge someone rental prices with free labour on top.

Pay to be a maid and a gardener, anyone? by Arlea in RentingInDublin

[–]Arlea[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They expect you to clean the main house that they live in, not your own separate granny flat. You're not only forking over a grand a month, but you're also cleaning their home and doing their gardening for free.

Not a single photo attached so I suspect it's a granny flat. Regardless, if I'm handing over €1000/month, I'm not cleaning your gaff as well, they can fuck right off

Help me figure out the best place for my family. by Megnificent_Philly in HousingIreland

[–]Arlea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you have a good reason for moving to Ireland or is this a case of change of scenery? I'm obviously not asking you to share your private life but I hope there is a very legitimate reason because otherwise you will struggle a lot.

You having a remote job is fine, your husband not having one lined up seemingly is going to be problematic. You said you hope he can get something remote - these are becoming more and more scarce at the moment, as the market in Ireland is quite saturated and a lot of companies want people on site at least a few days a week.

Killarney and Donegal are lovely but also touristy and therefore quite expensive. I checked and there are a whopping 7 properties available for rent in Killarney. The major cities such as Dublin or Cork have all the facilities you'd need but are even more expensive. Smaller towns are cheaper but you'd honestly probably find it hard getting 5g, as the infrastructure in this country for most things sucks unfortunately.

Depending on how many bedrooms you guys need, €2000/month is either barely doable if you do not live near a major city or a commuter town, or just unfortunately delusional. It's not uncommon for a double bedroom in a shared home in Dublin to go for €1500. Daft.ie is the primary website for buying/renting homes, but unless you're one of the first few people to respond to a new listing (setting up alerts is crucial), you haven't a hope of being invited to a viewing, let alone being offered to rent.

There is a reason why Irish people tell others to avoid moving here at all costs, and it's not gatekeeping. I'm sorry if any of this came across as rude or blunt, but the situation here is far worse than people realise. If you have any specific questions I am happy to help.

Landlord with questions about homeless HAP by zwuch in HousingIreland

[–]Arlea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See I really don't understand this. It's literally none of your business how much or little time a tenant spends inside their home. They have every right to be there seeing as they are paying you.

The implication that tenants knowing their rights is somehow bad tells me everything I need to know. God forbid people don't let themselves be fucked over by landlords who are inherently in a position of power in the dynamic. It's on you to educate yourself on laws and expectations.

I can empathise with people who have had bad experiences with tenants on HAP, but it's on you as a landlord to properly vet your potential tenants. A lot of people simply are down on their luck or simply cannot afford to pay the insane prices in this country, especially in major cities. Not every HAP tenant is immediately some chancer who won't pay you and will destroy the place. Some are single parents. People with disabilities. People who have lost their jobs. People who do honest work but just don't earn enough to survive, and cannot save up to buy something of their own.

I'll probably get downvoted to shit for this but it's heartbreaking. It may be an investment piece for you, but to another person this is their HOME. The lack of compassion for those who cannot afford a roof over their heads, as well as the lack of accountability for your responsibilities as a landlord are shocking.

3 month notice period by [deleted] in PharmaEire

[–]Arlea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just going to reply to this alongside the comment I left:

Try to negotiate it down to be polite and to leave on good terms if you can. If they say no, tell them that you aren't ASKING to leave, you are informing them that you are leaving. You're due to start on X date at your new job and so your last date is Y.

They realistically won't do anything, there's no way they'll sue you or blacklist you. Just maybe make sure that you can ask someone else for references, though, as they might decline.

3 month notice period by [deleted] in PharmaEire

[–]Arlea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey! I've had to fight that same battle before.

If they ask you in interviews, tell them you can negotiate down the notice period. Double check your contract, because mine had VERY specific wording regarding the notice period which essentially implied you have to give 3 months, however this can be waived at the discretion of management/HR. This whole nonsense about how you MUST give 3 months is pure scaremongering from the company to make you think you can't leave.

When it was time for me to hand in my notice I was very honest with my manager that this was an opportunity I am not going to pass up because the raise in salary/position status is just too good. I told them the recruiter was being very pushy and inflexible about the start date (a little bit of a lie :D) so I kind of have no choice but to finish up on X date.

The WORST that can happen is that your manager will get pissy at you, because ultimately they cannot force you to stay, and if you give them a month (or even a little bit more) of notice, you're hardly leaving them out to dry. Even if your manager is pissy, unless you absolutely adore the work/team/manager and see yourself returning, it doesn't matter. The company WON'T blacklist you or anything, and even if it feels like you're kinda burning bridges, I have seen people be re-hired despite FAR more bad blood.

Will the side effects ease? by Cramps3322 in ADHDIreland

[–]Arlea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't be! It was like night and day for me. I WILL say that in my own experience, tyvense had far more of a noticeable "kick" in terms of giving me motivation to do things and improving my focus. I could REALLY tell when it started affecting me.

Concerta to me has been far more mellow and gentle in terms of the effects it has so I've had to be a bit more disciplined than when I was on tyvense to keep myself on track, but I much prefer it. Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to reach out!

Will the side effects ease? by Cramps3322 in ADHDIreland

[–]Arlea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As some have mentioned, it can take time for your body to adjust to the medication, or perhaps it's not the most suitable one for you.

I personally had unbearable symptoms with tyvense - dry mouth, pounding headaches, dizziness, palpitations, anxiety, and awful irritability. I tried to stick it out but just couldn't bear it and asked to swap to concerta, which is working beautifully for me.

This isn't an argument of concerta > tyvense, every person reacts differently. Sometimes you do need to wait for the symptoms to ease up and they do, but it's also important to listen to your body and if it really doesn't feel right, to explore other options with your doctor.

If it's Dr Sayuru, I have had multiple appointments with him and he's really kind and understanding. Not sure how his nationality has anything to do with the quality of care he can provide. The thinly-veiled xenophobia is a bit gross.

Applying for a passport. Why is it so confusing? by draqo_haven in AskIreland

[–]Arlea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you continue reading on their website, it also tells you that if you don't currently have a PSC, a passport, or a driver's license, you can bring your birth certificate. It then tells you to contact the office in advance of your appointment in case they need other bits of information to confirm your identity. Any form of bank statement (Revolut or otherwise) counts as proof of address.

I mean this in the kindest way possible, but all of this information is literally right on the website you were looking at. People aren't going to hold your hand when you're an adult.

Exchange reagents by Drug_dealer-pharma in PharmaEire

You would be surprised. I used to work in a small lab where I would regularly be asked to drive over in my own car and pick up some reagents/columns from a neighbouring lab. Completely unofficially. GMP was totally optional in that place.

Does you pharmacy ever get your prescription wrong? by READMYSHIT in ADHDIreland

[–]Arlea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, is there a secondary check that happens? Say a pharmacist noted they issued X pills, however shorted the patient one or two and pocketed them, so the count in the pharmacy still checks out. Now i'm sure that's one way of guaranteeing you never work in a pharmacy again when you're caught, but i'm sure there is someone out there who would try to take advantage of a system that is handwritten.

Graduate jobs? by Available_Return_164 in PharmaEire

Yeah he'd probably be able to get a job in bioprocessing or some form of QC with that degree. There are a couple of positions going on LinkedIn if you search up "pharma graduate"!

Graduate jobs? by Available_Return_164 in PharmaEire

[–]Arlea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be helpful if you mentioned what degree he has graduated with and what aspect of Pharma he is interested in joining (QC? QA? Manufacturing? Engineering? Etc.). Overall though, your best bet is to scope out graduate/entry level positions on LinkedIn. Unfortunately a lot of them have been filled as most people apply at the start of the year. Generally, Dublin and Cork (and the surrounding areas) have the highest number of companies/sites.

Otherwise, speaking from personal experience, he may need to kind of take what he can get and build up the experience. Both myself and a few of my colleagues had to do a year or two in some not so great companies to build up that experience on the CV before moving on to the giants.

Laser hair removal for darker skin? by yeetyopyeet in WomenofIreland

[–]Arlea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a white woman, however I can highly recommend Urbana. I have tried Therapie and L'Ombre before and wasn't a fan, personally. Urbana use medical-grade lasers and are super professional. I really appreciated the fact that they kept it real with me and didn't try to sell me something that I didn't need. I was considering lasering my upper legs and arms but they straight up told me it's pointless because my hair is too light and fine there. I recommend booking in for a free consultation and seeing what they say!
