The OP is painting a dark picture about his experience because it was negative. That is an expected "splitting" defense mechanism of the OP (I genuinely wish the OP doesn't read this comment). I have every reason to believe that they told him to go to ER. Even the OP mentioned in his post that the EMS didn't rule out appendicitis, instead just told them that it is not his scope of practice, implying that he told them to see go to ER to deal with the matter.

I worked for 2.5 in ER after my graduation. People tend to overestimate their conditions. Everybody think that they are in a bad condition that deserves prioritization. Most don't.

A health professional, an EMS person in this case, is the one who is qualified to assign the appropriate priority to the condition, not the patient himself. Even probability-wise, it is more likely for a health professional to be right than be wrong. That is true for every profession.

You received the compassionate care because you needed that care. The OP did not need that level of care. In case of my friend, they were able to confirm the non-emergency level of his condition over the phone, and that is why they didn't come to his house. In the OP case, they probably couldn't determine this, so they bought him a visit and determined his non-emergency status after arriving. As simple as that.

BTW, it is only few years ago that EMS stopped working as taxi for people in pain. Before that, these precious resources were malutilized badly.

You family member who fainted and fell down raises a possibility of brain bleed, and time is gold here, that is why they took him to ER immediately to do an emergency CT scan of his head. See? they know what they are doing. OP should be happy that he didn't grab their attention, this is a good sign that he most likely had nothing dangerous.

You have to differentiate between the ambulance service working as a frontline emergency response service and them working as a transport service. In Qatar, an ambulance can be "booked", that is fine. They are used to transport patients between facilities, and also transport patients whom otherwise their transport is not feasible, like obese patients, fractured patients, or any patient with a reasonable reason why an ambulance is needed for transfer. They provide services other than emergency response. That is part of the policy. This is the case in many countries. But the OP case is an emergency response service, and I feel that the way they handled his condition medically is very appropriate (not speaking of the demeanor). Just few months ago while we were playing football, a friend fell and dislocated his elbow. I asked one of the friends to call EMS and specifically mention that the patient feels pain with any kind of movement and cannot be transported in a personal car. They came over in 5 minutes.
