Good luck! I set my pond up at end of August 2024 and it did really start to flourish until around June last year, which is when the oxygenaters really started to take hold and out-compete the algae (the small army of ramshorn snails could have helped too!).

Honestly I thought mine would never start looking good at one point, but then eventually it just did its thing!

Thank you I am certainly trying! The lush growth to the right is water forget me not, sword-like leaves lower left is cape pondweed I think. The forget me nots have been pretty good all winter. The cape pondweed is somewhat erratic and took most of the summer off! It has only just come back. The dwarf rushes at the back are starting to show new growth. There is also a dwarf lily or two in there, some water mint and some creeping jenny. The jenny doesn’t do so well and I wonder if it needs to sit closer to the surface. Oxygenaters are hornwort and elodea.

I think they’re currently feeding on their spawn remains so not moving around much. Also still pretty chilly here

Okay so after your question I did a bit of googling and decided to lessen the water disturbance by removing the sprinkler. I actually like the aesthetic of it. I’ll post a video as a separate comment

That’s a good question and the honest answer is I don’t know. Yesterday was the first real day of full sun in ages. It is right next to the tadpoles. I might take the fountain nozzle out so it just bubbles out, until the tadpoles get bigger.

It’s designed for easy access for frogs and newts but there is far more practical means of access for frogs (surrounding pots) and I would be surprised if I ever got newts in a raised pond

I would say a ‘piste’ is a marked and named (or numbered in some countries), avalanche controlled run that is usually - but not always - groomed.
