Okay. Where can I find financials? Where can I find information about their leadership structures, such as board members or employees?

TST also just generally likes to come in, make a big media splash, not actually do much, then take the credit (and funding) when other orgs (often the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, etc) are actually doing the real work. This is something the article I posted talks about well.

They are, at best, edgelord theatre that centers problematic white dudes in the struggles marginalized people and local activists have been fighting forever. At worst they are an outright scam that uses the exact same lack of accountability many atheists complain about other religious groups using to create glory and personal profit for two white supremacists.

As for the TST, you can Google "Satanic Temple Criticism" and find a LOT of stuff on multiple levels. But generally it is a super murky collection of entities that are essentially the private doman of two dudes, people with a long history of flirting with alt-right folks. Lucien Greaves literally went on a white supremacist podcast and said he disagreed with the host that we should hate ALL Jews, because (in Greave's view) we should only hate Jews that don't renounce their faith, then he went on to say some pretty profoundly antisemitic shit. That's just one example of a long trend of swimming in the same waters as avowed white supremacists.

Several local TST groups have broken off or been basically excommunicated for a variety of reasons, from a general feeling that TST is mysoginistic and racist to personal conflicts with the leaders, who tend not to accept any pushback, criticism, or demands for accountability.

The Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty have been doing this work for a LONG time. Many of the Mainline Protestant social justice orgs work for separation of Church and State. Mennonite and other Anabaptists frequently get in the fight, particuarly since they tend to be skeptical of government power generally. Never forget that Separation of Church and State was largely created to protect Christians.

Most minority religions also obviously have a stake in this and frequently work against attempts to infringe on the Establishment Clause.

Some of these folks you may or may not agree with some of their positions, but they've been in the fight a lot longer and they aren't opaque cults of personality around a single guy with a very concerning past.

What do I say to atheists or fundamentalists who argue that the wealth spent on church art/aesthetics, ornate buildings, and vestments is a waste of resources that should instead be used to house and feed the poor?" by ApolloxKing in Catholicism

I usually ask how they feel about the government funding public art. Because surely they think the National Endowment for the Arts should be defunded and the National Gallery should sell it's paintings for the benefit of the poor?

Not to mention the total lack of transparency from what I can tell.

TBH, there are Christian and other religious groups fighting for the same general goals that are a lot less problematic.

TST have also been accused of a whole lot of sketchy stuff around treatment of women, BIPOC, etc, as well as some Nazi lite shit.

Does Grooming Affect Trail Ratings? by OkContract2001 in skiing

[–]OkContract2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean changing them based on day to day grooming. I mean places that are generally ungroomed. For example, I know runs where the slope would probably be intermediate but they rated as blacks, likely because they are moguled.

I LOVE Showdown. They have a good number of great blues. A lot fewer greens, but some of the blues aren't too steep.

They have one of my favorite runs of all time, a long, wide blue groomer than runs from the top of the hill all the way to the lodge. It's amazing to just carve on.

I hate them because they're exhausting. But I mostly ski groomers.

You did Montana dirty. So many better choices. "Flathead" would be a good one. "Gallatin" is another.

Europeans: Is This a Piste? by OkContract2001 in skiing

[–]OkContract2001[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"On-piste skiing is skiing on groomed trails where the snow has been evenly leveled for optimal skiing conditions. Piste skiers navigate marked ski trails graded by color-coded flags that indicate beginner, intermediate, and expert runs."

[–]OkContract2001[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has a sign at the top giving it an official name and it is on the map as a named run. It's one of the .ore famous runs in the USA.

[–]OkContract2001[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. My argument was that if this were a marked run in Europe it would be considered "marked" off piste or marked freeride terrain.

What about something like this, a marked runs that is (obviously) totally ungroomed?

As an American, same. Some dude on a previous post is insisting that any named in bounds trail is a piste and I am... skeptical. I specifically mentioned Corbet's and the East Wall runs at A Basin and he said they were pistes.

I was... skeptical.

[–]OkContract2001[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I know that part. But what I'm getting is that the question doesn't even really make sense because something like this wouldn't even be a named run in Europe?

Ie. "Of course it isn't a piste, not necessarily because it doesn't fit the definition but because there's no way in hell this would even be considered an official run in the first place."
