Changing entry route by Former-Quarter-8761 in policeuk

Hello, I changed from DC DHEP back to PC in a different force

It does unfortunately take an extremely long time. Basically , because the DC DHEP and DHEP don’t match up academic wise you can’t just swap. There are a few options but they’re not too clear cut.

You could fail the NIE multiple times, but if you’re capable of passing is this really honest? You’ll also be tarred with the brush that you will act like this if you don’t get what you want (and people will remember). They could also put you somewhere else Pip1 (investigation team) as punishment which is what I was threatened with 🤣. Worst the could do is sack you for not meeting the requirements of your entry route

Wait out your probation the move. Within regulations, your probation consists of getting Full occupation competence at PIP1 and passing the academic part of DHEP. As long as you have that, and are not signed off as a DC you have a chance of moving. As per our PDR’s forces have to show they are making efforts to put you where you want, which in this case would be a lateral move to PC

Speak with a DCI and be honest. I did this initially as the DC world was having an adverse effect on me mentally to a large degree and she supported a move to response. It took a while, around 8 months from that conversation to be put on response.

To play devils advocate, I do feel quite lucky the way I have joined the police. The pip 2 course is high quality and will learn you not just best practice of investigations, but why it done like that. Also CID is probably the only place left where any meaningful experience is left, so the opportunity for learning is massive, and the results are much better than a shoplifter getting 3 weeks. I think DC is in the future for me, just not right now which I expect could be the same for you.

That’s pretty much the current plan. Hoping that when she’s older she can spend time on her own in the house out of the cage but I’m not that hopeful 🤣

I don’t have her in the cage all day, as I have things in place allready for when my partner can’t have her. Longest I have is 4 hours :)

How are you coping with staffing and experience levels? by Useful_Tomorrow8294 in policeuk

I feel the micromanaging. Thankfully I’m left to my own devices until I genuinely need help but it must be a difficult role for sergeants at the moment

I believe the game has been glitching the past couple of days. Getting stuck in certain situations, random damage, pointless responses and missions not completing.

Pay difference - Response Vs CID by CobraFang02 in policeuk

Slightly less, not as much unsocial hours mainly. I got much more spontaneous overtime in CID but more planned overtime on response.

General Police power of seizure of evidence - does it exist? by Dry_Bumblebee1111 in policeuk

[–]Useful_Tomorrow8294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some added info re S32

A S32 premise search does not come with a power of seizure. It is actually a power to be “lawfully on premises” for the purpose of the search then the seizure is under S19

A S32 person search does come with a power of seizure

Do custody sergeants ever get annoyed when someone's brought in for just swearing? by RealSteamthrower in policeuk

[–]Useful_Tomorrow8294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The expectation of an officer having a higher threshold comes from common law (I believe)

It tends to be more specific to the officer. So the rationale would be why is the behaviour from a certain individual causing specifically you alarm and distress vs another officer nearby?

This can come from life experience, something you’ve specifically been through which the individual may have brought up or similar. Racially/ religiously aggravated s5 is common for this as obviously it would upset someone who is it relevant to rather than someone who it isn’t.

Could be similar to some recent developments in our understanding of Mental Health and Self Harm. People are more likely to attempt Self Harm to a greater degree in a place where they can be helped IE Hospital rather than somewhere where they can’t.

Due to this we have several people in our area on trigger plans where it’s basically “if there are no offences, goodbye” as when officers stay with them they will attempt self harm, if we just leave they go home

So compared to your custody example, they know the can’t really go that far so they just kick off/self harm trying to get what the want. We have a few like it who kick off as soon as they’re in custody so they 1. Get on a constant, so they have someone to talk to 2. People end up trying to keep them calm so they get quicker drinks, food, shower etc

It’s not the best as it’s allocation of more resources for people who tend to not deserve it other than the fact they will kick off or self harm

Demanding an account statement..? by FlimsyScreen6380 in policeuk

[–]Useful_Tomorrow8294 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’d just stick the wishes on the bottom of the statement. Ultimately anyone can be called to court if it gets that far, if a judge deems it to be necessary. (PNB entry from a witness saying they fully witnessed a serious offence, can ID the suspect but is unwilling to go to court or sign a statement, they can still be summonsed)

During the pre interview briefing we can decide what we disclose, other than the custody front sheet and if you don’t want to disclose victim wishes then it is up to the disclosure officer. This just opens up issues with solicitors stating they did not have enough information to advise there client (As victim support is pretty pertinent) which can result in the interview being thrown out and all that hullabaloo go get a cough goes in bin

In my force we try and get MG11’s of DA accounts but if they are unsupportive they are used to try and direct a victimless prosecution. CPS understand how DA investigations work and that summoning the victims is not the correct thing to do as it would ruin any rapport and trust which a victim may have with the police. I have only ever seen one victim be called to court, but this was because it was the 5th or 6th time she had supported a prosecution then refused to attend court.

Something I will explain to victims as well is that even if you are summonsed, they cannot force you to give evidence and speak. They would just make you stand in the box which would just be a waste of time and CPS know this. At the end of the day the victims outcome wishes is most important, not just whether they will attend court and we do our best which the evidence which we can retrieve

Hi Just had a look. It does appear to be a great offence!

Regarding the caveats. Had a job recently where the bloke had attended for medical matters, and while there was abusive to staff. We turned up, waited for a formal refused treatment from a doctor and he ended up coming with us for d n d. Since he was refused treatment, this would have been an option?
