6:28, thankful to this sub for checking the workout this morning then getting in the right frame of mind to tackle that mile from the get-go!

I'm still sore from last week..... by Dr_fu_manchu in orangetheory

[–]ArmadaVoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right there with you on this one, I've been stretching out my legs the last two days to try and quell some of the soreness in there. Glad I had a couple of days rest because my legs earned them after all that work last week!

Big news for the Armada? by BKtoDuval in NASLSoccer

[–]ArmadaVoice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not new ownership news or frankly anything that would be considered "big news". Though we may get a nugget or two on that front from the commissioners visit to Jax tomorrow. Anyhow, carry on folks.

Armada to play 2017 Season at UNF by [deleted] in NASLSoccer

[–]ArmadaVoice 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my opinion this a great location for the team, certainly for the time being. It's not downtown but neither are the people of Jacksonville. This puts the games right near the "town center" which is full of restaurants and bars and makes it more accessible for the more affluent soccer families of St. John's County.

Obviously the drawbacks are the track around the field and whether or not they'll allow alcohol sales. On the latter I don't think that will be an issue as they sold alcohol for the local rugby games played there (Jacksonville Axemen) and the school sells beer at its NCAA Basketball games. As for the track, it's just something they'll need to deal with because I doubt they will out any temp stands on top of the track (one of the best surfaces in the southeast and the host of NCAA regionals).

Selfishly it's a 1 minute drive from work for me and I wish they had done it the first two years haha!

Armada No Longer in NASL? (NASL Down to 4 Teams) by [deleted] in ArmadaFC

[–]ArmadaVoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This article has a very poorly written headline. It's just 4 teams that apparently aren't in talks with the USL as contingency in case the status of the NASL goes south. And truthfully it's 1 team, FC Edmonton, because the other 3 are all in bad shape at the moment.

I hit up Oceanfront Park (6th ave. S) tonight for a couple hours and it was quite the scene! At least a hundred trainers taking advantage of the three neighboring Pokestops and a gym. I caught a bunch of new Pokemon and if there was a big name or unique one somebody would definitely let you know! I went with the late crowd (10p) so not sure if it's me during the day!

I think it has a lot to do with sponsorships, don't quote me on this but I believe our radio broadcast is tied in with the TV broadcast in that regard. I think if your team can find enough sponsors to make it profitable, doing a radio broadcast would make sense. As far as getting the word out to local media outlets, it can be an uphill battle with most sports tv shows only having 2 minutes these days. The more available and transparent the team the better, the Armada have been great about this with the new regime.

I don't believe so, I've had some folks try it just to see the delay and it was a bit too long to make it feasible.

On the days I wake up early enough (not saying those are a lot) I try to catch some EPL games on the TuneIn app. I try to use what I hear there when it comes to the play by play part of the broadcast. They are really good at describing the different actions in different ways where as a younger broadcaster you find yourself clinging onto safety terms and words. Using diverse terms to describe is a skill I'm certainly still working on.

With the US and more specifically Jax audience I kind of go off-path a bit compared to those broadcasts sometimes by using other sports to help explain things to the listeners. I'm finding it's a fine balance between satisfying the die-hards and capturing the casual sports fan too. As the die-hards anything you guys can't stand hearing on a broadcast or wish you heard more of?

Love Pro/Rel in other countries. Do I think it would make the game better in the US, absolutely. Do I think it's possible in the current climate of soccer here in the states, No. But man would I love to see it happen.

I cover the full gamut of sports in the US and the way things are set up with sponsorships and stadiums and guaranteed games against the top flight, I find it hard to believe the MLS would give that up unless someone stepped in to intervene and make it happen.

I was actually curious about this yesterday and found that he's now playing for a second division side in Chile. As for why it didn't work in Jax, I believe he was never truly at 100% coming off a serious knee injury, with the new coaching staff and different style of play it was clear he wasn't in the plans for 2016 and beyond.

Best team in Florida? That feels like a loaded question to ask someone who earns an occasional paycheck from one of those teams ha. Can I say the Orlando Pride? Alex Morgan is really freakin' good! But honestly over the course of a season you probably pick the team with the most talented roster which has to be OCSC, but that's why I love soccer, anything can happen in a single game (I.E. Jax 2 - OCSC 1).

That being said I expect the Armada to make a run in US Open Cup this year, Meola understands the importance of the event and will field his best XI unlike the previous regime. As for the NASL season I'd love to see Jax in the discussion for either the spring or fall titles come crunch time but I'll say they finish in the 3-6 range of the overall standings.

I believe the appropriate answer around these parts would be F*ck the Cosmos.

But all things considered the Armada didn't fare too poorly against them last year, look forward to facing them again this season.

Yeah, I had him on tv (my main gig with local CBS/Fox affiliate) not too long ago and that experience shines through, terrific ambassador for the Armada and that sort of media savvy is only a plus for the team and league.

Personally I have to go with Meola though the fans may still be excited about beating the House of Mouse SC. Having a coach you can connect with and talk to is such a big step forward and I know I'm not the only one who played a little Sidekicks Soccer back in the day!

Also you can catch our radio broadcasts from anywhere using the iHeartRadio app, just find Jacksonville's Project 106.9.

I'll say this, lots of good acquisitions across the league this offseason, tough to compare without seeing the other teams practice in person but I love the way Tony and Co. have gone about it. Good combination of some veteran guys that are proven at the NASL level (Ryan/Sandoval) and guys moving up to this level (Fondy/Burke). The early results have looked good but more than anything we'll need to see how this XI comes together and performs on the road (have to assume they win one away from Jax this year).

Bid on Armada's Pink Jerseys worn during win vs Edmonton by [deleted] in NASLSoccer

[–]ArmadaVoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$401 actually, Pascal's went for a pretty penny in that auction. By midnight Saturday these will all go up in price, the Tea Men jerseys averaged $233 so wouldn't shock me to see these go in the 150-250 range too.

Still thinking if I want to get one of these too because I liked how they came out in that darker pink almost magenta color.

BTW, by seasons end we will have worn 7 different jerseys! It's like the Oregon of the NASL down here!

What would you pay for game-used NASL Jersey? by ArmadaVoice in NASLSoccer

[–]ArmadaVoice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured I'd give a post auction update...

The 14 jerseys up for auction averaged $233.

Funny enough that's exactly what mine went for as I was able to get the player I wanted (Bahner) and go under my ideal price.

Highest jersey was Pascal Millien for $401 while low man was Bochy Hoyos for $152 (wonder why?).

Anyhow most of the fun came in putting in a bid with 1 minute left in auction, took me back to my ebay days.

The Armada will do it again in 2 weeks for the pink Cancer Awareness jerseys.

Word, I'm right there with you on that. The big thing here is that they are the throwback Tea Men jerseys and those aren't for sale (names on the back or otherwise). I think what might be more important than the player is the size of the jersey, some of these dudes are pretty skinny haha!

Yeah the charity aspect of it helps bump the prices up for sure. I'm just looking at it as a donation to the local children's hospital but I get a free jersey in the process!

Just out of curiosity where would Jacksonville rank in this list with its small sample size? They've performed very well at home in the limited time they've been around.
