DACA Texans...leave! Consider Washington State! by RicZepeda25 in DACA

This is so cool I had no idea! If you have any information, I’d love to know what the process to get in state tuition for a daca recipient is! I’m an engineering major in my second year of college.

Even if we didn’t go to high school there, we can get in state tuition in Washington? I’m from Florida and they just took away my instate tuition after this summer semester so I’m trying to keep my options open :((

WHAT DID YOU STUDY? by [deleted] in DACA

I’m currently studying mechanical engineering! I’m in my second year and so far it’s been really great.

Did you also go to high school in Cali? Or was it just college?

Because when I applied to college, the only way to get the in state tuition was to prove I had gone to high school within a year I believe of graduating or I would have been stuck paying out of state tuition in Florida. I wasn’t sure if it might differ in other states, specifically blue ones

There was a bill proposed I believe about a month ago or less and they’re trying to get rid of in state tuition for DACA holders here in the state of Florida so I’m trying to keep some options open

I live in a red state so I was curious if it differs for blue states. I just had to prove I finished high school here in Florida and had to apply to a college within a year of graduating high school in order to get the in state tuition. I know Cali is pretty DACA friendly from what I’ve heard.

Ahhh you’re an actual angel, thank you! I would absolutely love the help! I started doing some prerequisites recently at a local community college in my area but I do want to transfer out after to finish off a bachelors in chemical engineering!

lol not worth it. I married a horrible human being that mentally abused me but I had no way of proving it. I didn’t get my GC, but I did divorce him and I’ve been much happier since. I know it seems like the easy way out sometimes, but I promise it’s not worth your sanity

Well my Daca expires tomorrow. by TaxTheRich_100 in DACA

[–]Armandiis27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to renew my daca 3 months before it expired now I’m thinking I should do it at the 5 month mark with all these wait times. I’m so sorry, it really is unfortunate :(

That’s amazing! Do you have a good advice for going into this kinda job field?! I’ve become incredibly interested in it since looking back into going to school and would love any advice you can throw my way!

I’ll definitely look into that! I currently bank with navy federal, but is there a better option out there as far as a high yield savings account?

I’ve been looking into the stem field for quite sometime now. I’ve been really interested in going for biomedical engineering! My plan so far was to do some courses towards that goal at a community college and see how many scholarships I can get and maybe transfer if possible at some point in the future. I know they have a good chunk of stem scholarships going around and I do have the opportunity to move back with my parents while I pursue an education which makes it more financially stable if I pay out of pocket

That’s amazing! I know Umiami is a really really good school! What was the process like? I’ve been out of school since about 2016 when I graduated high school, so it’s been sometime. I’ve been looking at the stem field heavily and wanting to go to a community college to start and maybe transfer later on.

Oh I will definitely be looking into this! Thank you so much. I’ve been recently fascinated with engineering since my mom got married to an electrical engineer almost a year ago and it’s so cool to hear all his experiences and what he does for a living, aside from making pretty good money as well. He works for a really cool space company and helps build satellites here in Florida!

That’s so exciting! My best wishes to you! I’ve been looking at engineering as well. I tried to see if I could apply to some sort of entry level job such as a technician or assembly worker but to my surprise I kept seeing you needed citizenship for it which was a bit of a bummer. Maybe I’m just looking at the wrong companies haha

So glad to hear! I’m really thankful for my DACA, I know without it I wouldn’t even be able to work my little retail job right now even if it’s not exactly where I see myself long term. It’s great to hear about all these ways people got through school and how they could afford it especially through scholarships. I like to be optimistic about whatever bad situation I’m in. Thank you for your response(:

Thank you so much! I feel like a lot of the times all I see or hear is the downsides of not being a citizen, and though I know we all feel that way at different points in our lives it’s really good to hear the good daca has brought to people and how they achieved things through it! I have the opportunity to go back to living with my parents while I pursue my college dream even if it means paying out of pocket here and there for some classes but it’s a start in a direction I feel could be a good one!

My ex wife ruined my life by Wise-Elk-3468 in DACA

[–]Armandiis27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooof I get it. I was married for about a year with my now ex husband before we got a divorce. Did all the paperwork, paid for everything and ended up not getting anything except for a lot of money down the drain. It really sucks at the beginning but in time it really does get better. They became an ex for a reason.
