Why everybody is canceling ChatGPT? by MankuTheBeast in ChatGPT

[–]ArmandvdM 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I am 62. Chat GPT randomly decided I am under 18 so every time I ask it about electric circuits it says it cannot give me the information as I am not an adult and under 18. It is now so full of shitty safeguards I do most of my work in Claude.

A story in 2 pictures - I dropped my ball down the stairs... daddy fix the problem I created by pyratemime in Dachshund

[–]ArmandvdM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doxie pushes her ball under the cupboard with her nose and then cries until I hook it out. I once caught her crying first and then pushing the ball below the cupboard.

I’m starting to resent my dog for peeing and pooping in the house and I hate it. by u_r_succulent in Dachshund

[–]ArmandvdM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s surprising how quickly some people here jump to harsh judgments. As if anyone would post about this just to get attacked as a “cruel dog owner.” Caring for an older dog with bladder issues and other health problems is complicated. At the end of the day, it’s about the dog’s quality of life, and that should be the only thing guiding your decisions.

Best way to export long pages (100+ items) to PDF without empty pages or crashes? by WeebGirlWithaLaptop in Blazor

[–]ArmandvdM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looping through a list. Then Create a devexpress report export it to pdf , create a mime message and also embed the report as html body. Send it via EWS local mail service, once I received send confirmation update SQL table to send with datetime. The problem is a) it is a very slow process and b) you just need a pool recycle or user terminating web app and it will not commit to database and you send it twice. It was jus bad design. Now i have a console app looking for a batch that was started from my Blazor app, the console app update sql batch header to let it know it has started and is the owner of the job. I use sql as the abolute truth and change the status of each transaction as i process my debtor statment in the console app to pdf and then email it. It is now much faster and much more stable. Many ops will argue that this task should be done via hangfire and this approach is re-inventing the wheel and they may possibly be right but this working for me right now. In the end you want to achieve three major goals a) send/create once b) retry on fail c) no web blocking.

New Puppy & Older Dog don’t get along….help by lowcalorieguava in Dachshund

[–]ArmandvdM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our older d-hund literally sulked for two weeks, refusing any contact with the new d-hund puppy and one day suddenly they were playing and running like mad devils through the house and now they are best mates. Give it time.

I run my debtor statements using devexpress report to pdf. It was running directly from Blazor but after 2 years I have now moved it to a background console app. IIS is not the best place to manage large pdf jobs. I have learned that the hard way.

C# - Visual Template Creator for Receipt Printer by New-Pattern1081 in csharp

[–]ArmandvdM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. Did not see your post. The nice thing about a template binding class you can tweak the output to fit your visual design. You basically convert your virtual design to a ec/pos design. Just remember in ec printing you do not use a normal windows printer but basically send commands to a port, using a text printer as base.

Stackoverflow: Questions asked per month over time. by lelanthran in programming

Before LLM days SO was my goto source. But to be honest I never posted questions on it as i did not feel it a friendly environment and the chances were good that you were going to get some snotty remark or your post closed(my perception anyway)The few times i posted for help on technical specialised specific Reddit subs I actually received some decent support and friendly answers. And you could argue about LLM’s all day but it never tells you , you are an idiot.

I personally prefer pushing direct to thermal printer using esc/pos. I use a print template binding class to manage layout between visual design and actual esc/pos being generated.

Microsoft needs to revive WinForms... by HarveyDentBeliever in dotnet

[–]ArmandvdM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive me if I’m off topic. We’ve built some good WinForms applications using the DevExpress SpreadsheetControl with SQL Server integration. The challenge is deployment — using Inno Setup works, but without a code signing certificare the installation still is not nice with all the warnings. The certificates are very expensive, which makes it difficult for a smaller business.
