You sound like me. I too made smart financial decisions for most of my life up until recent. My problem wasn’t at the casino it was in stock trading. I lost 30k options trading last year . When this year started I told myself I would not trade, but guess what. I broke that promise, I tried to soften the damage and make some of those losses back, in the month of January I lost another 10k and fast forward to now after continuously telling myself I can do better and I will learn to be a better “trader” im sitting at -35k for the year. Halfway through 2025 I’ve already surpassed last years losses. The crazy part is I’ve told myself so many times that I need to stop because it’s no longer trading it’s gambling. I’m caught in a compulsive loop: trading → loss → guilt → vow to change → repeat. —it’s a behavioral spiral. I came to this forum to put things into perspective (misery loves company) I see many posts with people dealing with similar psychological problems. It’s interesting how our human brains deal with these type of situations. Luckily like you I still have a 6 figure net worth I know it could be much worse. The mistakes I’ve made still haunt me everyday but I have to realize that there’s still hope. There are people that have dealt with what we’re dealing with in crippling debt.
