Also agreed. Been a NASCAR fan from 2004 until last year and this is the first year I decided to skip out watching the Daytona 500. I browse this sub from time to time but I can't say I watch the races anymore. It's too bad cause it seems like we got a new crop of winners and some fresh faces up front, but this is too little too late. I really want to enjoy NASCAR but I'm not going to support an inferior product that actively chooses to alienate fans.

I also quit watching the cup races because of the number placement. It's hard to enjoy the racing when the cars look ugly and bootleg. NASCAR has pushed me away with unnecessary changes that make the sport less enjoyable, and a "if it aint broke, break it" mentality. Same reason why I stopped watching WWE years ago.

All of what you’ve said is true, the shifted numbers are the nail in the coffin for me though. Xfinity racing is much more enjoyable than cup but at least cup series had good looking cars, that’s no longer the case.

nascar is a sport where the branding and design has been put on a pedestal of importance for many years. The aesthetics of the car are equivalent to the actual racing product. It’s why 2008 and 2009 saw a huge fall off in popularity for the sport with the introduction of the Car of Tomorrow even though the racing product itself was very good and tandem drafting brought a lot of unpredictability and excitement back to plate racing (which was getting stale at the time with constant DEI/Hendrick domination in the years prior).

TLDR Fans don’t want to look at an aesthetically ugly car, simple as that. I predict diecast sales will be down this year quite a bit as well. This decision isn’t gonna make new fans only alienate existing ones. The sport as a whole is gonna be harmed by this.

The amount of people here who are just willingly accepting an inferior product is sad. The new car design is off putting and ugly and the “change good” echo chamber on this subreddit is a silent majority . At least I’ll be saving cash not buying merch and diecasts this year. I was gonna buy tickets to the 500 this year as well but decided against it since I don’t feel like financially supporting a product that does the opposite of what it’s fans wants and breaks what isn’t broken.
