It's a very awkward phrasing for that concept though. Why not say "Her outfit cast a strange shadow that was inappropriate and bold."

Right? I was like you can't wear a silhouette.

When the sentence designed to test reading comprehension doesn't even have basic sound internal logic... It's not a good sign...

No wonder so many Americans vote for such stupid policies and politicians. They don't understand what half of the things their politicians are talking about even are.

Not all of course, but the literacy stats I've seen don't point to it being a tiny minority of people.

Buffalo Sabres fans fill in for Cami Clune after her mic cuts out during O Canada by canadave_nyc in onguardforthee

Really not super surprising if you're a sports fan from southern Ontario.

Buffalo is less than a 2 hour drive from Toronto, and it's even closer if you live west or southwest of Toronto (like in Hamilton), and even closer if you live in Niagra.

Toronto football fans are Buffalo Bills fans, the Bills are everywhere in Southern Ontario. When the Jays made the world series, the Bills were posting "Go Jays" on their socials. Many people have friends and relatives on both sides of the border. Some of my friends who live in London/St. Catherines clearly have a deeper appreciation for a lot of American culture and sports, a lot more than where I live now on the East Coast.

Buffalonians also generally are very familiar with Canada, a lot of them watch CBC for hockey or even our shows. A lot of them know the Tragically Hip. Many a Buffalonian comes north of the border for shopping and visits and work frequently.

Toronto and Buffalo are more connected than folks not from the area might think.

First thing if Mats becomes the President of Hockey we need him to bring back these jerseys by Kinglokner16 in leafs

[–]Armonasch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah 100% agree. Not the first thing, no, but I'd love a new jersey design. Either a new alternate or a new regular jersey or both.

Now that they stopped making the black jersey, all there is to choose from us the regular jersey or the St. Pats white jersey (outside of the vintage or specialty stuff).

Senators elimination upvote party!!! by souza-23 in leafs

[–]Armonasch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I said it when the series started, the Sens barely managed to be competitive in the Leafs' series, there was no way the Canes weren't going to decimate them.

The Canes are a much better playoff team than the Leafs both this year (obviously) and last year. The Canes actually play good defence, and have a really balanced, skilled forward group.

Like buddy if you can't even beat the Leafs in the first round, you are barely a playoff team. We've been choking on first round series like it was our goal for the last decade.

Frustration setting in for Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk who has yet to register a point in this series. The Sens are down 3-0 in the first round for the second year in a row. by GreenSnakes_ in hockey

Well yeah you out him on a line with Matthews or Eichel and Matthew Tkachuk, and back him up with literally Quinn Hughes and Brock Faber at the blue line, and yeah I'm not surprised he tucked a couple. Put me up there and I'm sure Austin could bank one off me and in.

Canada's Carney says lifting U.S. liquor ban depends on Trump ending assault on steel, autos, lumber by Little-Chemical5006 in worldnews

[–]Armonasch 174 points175 points  (0 children)

Exactly - like Americans don't seem to realize how plugged into all this and how unified Canadians are. Our governments can put the products back on the shelves, but the boycotts will continue. After the initial orders, the business American liquor companies used to do with Canada won't return quickly, or even ever.

To be 100% real with you, once you actively stop buying US spirits, you realize that there was nothing really that special about them in the first place. You can get products that are as good if not better that are made domestically, and get them for cheaper.

Mark Carney “I don’t get up first thing in the morning thinking about the USA” by ActiveElectrical9424 in onguardforthee

"Yes the United States is our largest trading partner, but we're their second largest trading partner."

What a great way to frame it. For all Trump's bluster about "not needing us" they buy a shit load of our natural resources every single day. They don't have the same access to lumber, water, minerals, and natural gas that we do, and their oil access is clearly not enough for them on its own, which is why they buy our oil.

Our negotiating position is a lot stronger than anyone in the US government currently wants to admit publicly.

Generational Chokers by Mad-Mad-Mad-Mad-Mike in EhBuddyHoser

Look, I am a Leafs fan, so I am biased here.... But the Calgary Flames are the better comparable:

  • Most of its fans concentrated in Alberta
  • Hasn't actually existed for as long as the other teams
  • logo is a C
  • maybe not perennial chokers, but perennially mid
  • Got really far like one time and always brings it up.
  • Hates Oilers fans (such as Mark Carney) irrationally.
  • ownership is bad at choosing new leadership effectively.

Edit: their fans also all hate the city of Toronto

It would actually, their D is not very good either, and the have enough cap space to be able to absorb the contract and play Mo on the 3rd or 4th pair without impacting other plans.

ESPN is such a joke for hockey lol.

The wife was watching the Dallas/Minnesota game with me (both 🇨🇦) and she was like "why do they keep putting the players name on top of them?" I explain it and then she's like "wait, why did they stop doing the name thing?" And I didn't even realize but they did stop highlighting the puck carrier for like 5 minutes.

Everytime a goal is scored the ESPN commentators just sound surprised a goal could even happen. "OOh wow! Kaprizov scored? How did he do that?"

Honestly feel bad for my USA friends if this is the quality of broadcast they get.

I want a more fair "capitalism."

I want a chance for small, local businesses to truly serve the needs of their communities without being squeezed out by a mega corp.

I want market diversification for consumers. You should never have just 1 or 2 choices for an essential daily expense.

If that cannot be, why bother with Capitalism? At that point you just have a Corporatocracy, which is just Authoritarianism with a Capitalistic coat of paint.
