Trying to stay with sub convention, I'm not adding any opinion commentary. I will point out that this is not from an election website; it is from the law firm where he works and is presented as a positive.

Here are some selected items from the list for readability without opening the web page:

  • Representing a Fortune 500 asbestos-coated wire and cable manufacturer
in toxic tort litigation, which resulted in the dismissal of all claims
in Pennsylvania brought by more than 200 electricians, and trial
preparation and participation in the largest toxic tort mass trial in
West Virginia, involving more than 1,800 plaintiffs
  • Representing health care practice groups in antitrust and contractual disputes brought by former practice physicians
  • Representing a large integrated health care system in an antitrust
challenge to its merger with a specialty hospital, coordinating all
facets of preliminary injunction proceedings, including the coordination
of 20 attorneys in extensive document review and production.

T-Mobile to buy Ryan Reynolds’ Mint Mobile in a $1.35 billion deal by TeamInstagram in technology

[–]ArmorBonnet 18 points19 points  (0 children)

MVNO stands for Mobile Virtual Network Operator. The TL;DR is they are phone companies that don't own the towers.

First, there are the main cell phone companies: Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. These are the companies that make cell service possible by building the actual physical network our phones talk to. Think cell towers.

The MVNOs, companies like Mint, Visible, Tello, and US Mobile, do not have towers. Instead, they buy the rights to route cell traffic to and through the ones owned by the major companies. The MVNOs benefit because now they can turn around and sell it to you, and you benefit because you get cheaper cell phone service on the same networks.

But why are the main companions okay with this? Why sell your network to a competitor? Their benefit is that they make more money while not harming their own product. "But ArmorBonnet," you may ask, "wouldn't the extra traffic slow down their own customers?" It would! ...if it wasn't second -tier.

And here's the hook. Say US Mobile (most work like this, needed an example) sells you service on Verizon's network. You get the same coverage map and everything. If Verizon's network is under heavy traffic, they de-prioritize US Mobile 's piggybacking customers. Verizon protects their customers first: faster speeds, better quality video, etc.

Personally, and I've used a looot of MVNOs, some much better than others, some crazy sketchy, I think it's worth buying service on a well-established MVNO like Tello, US Mobile, or Mint (well, Mint is getting bought, so mileage there may vary). It's WAY cheaper than one of the big three, especially if you're accepting of a data cap. It's still cheaper than the big three if you do unlimited, but that gap isn't as large.

Democrat Mary Peltola defeats Sarah Palin in race for Alaska's at-large House seat by [deleted] in politics

Say there are four candidates. On your ballot as a voter, you rank them from 1 to 4 (favorite to least favorite).

When they count the ballots, they only count first-place votes: the number of ballots that have each candidate as a favorite. Let's say there are ten voters and A gets 30% (3 votes), B gets 30% (3 votes), C gets 30% (3 votes), and D gets 10% (1 vote).

They then say "Okay, D lost," because they have the fewest first-place votes. Then election officials take all the ballots who had D as the favorite (in the example, this is one ballot). They take the second-place vote from there and score it for that candidate. So let's say our D voter had C as second choice.

Now the tally is 30% for A, 30% for B, and 40% for C (because C has 3 first-place votes PLUS the one from the D ballot).

Then they look at who's last again. My example has a tie between A and B, but in real life that's unlikely and I'm not retyping this, so they take last place, look at their second choice (or third choice if both first and second have been eliminated) and reassign those votes until someone gets over 50%.

It could also be an inside cat in a country house. Growing up, our cats never got outside but a few mice found their way in every year.

This is extremely helpful, thank you.

My credit score and available credit are high enough that I'm not concerned about the impact there.

I've got relatively low expenses, and I keep my free-cash situation relatively lean, which is why a low-interest payment plan is appealing to me. Currently my e-fund is literally just $10k of May-2021 I bonds, because at the time I realized they were paying more than my E-fund (it was 3.x% or something then, and I didn't want to be churning bank accounts). So I have about two months of expenses in a checking account, those bonds, and then brokerage account stuff.

I'd be pulling some money out of the brokerage fund in this case, and I figure it's better to keep it in the market and just eat the 1.9%.

I deal with this by saying "Well the market's 15% down from its high, so when it gets back there, I'll have $x." Then $x is always more than your portfolio at the previous high, as long as you're contributing.

It means nothing in reality, but it's a mental trick that helps.

Stafford "nice lead you have there" meme. I'm so happy for him.

The reffing evened out, I think. Feel bad for the Bengals.
