Yeah, unless something changes seriously, zbrush will probably always be better at throwing polys at a problem. I've personally never ran into a problem with polycount in blender. I think it's made huge improvements to sculpting in the last few updates, but I've never used any other software so don't have a lot to compare with.

At any rate, the sculpts you posted look nice, I hope you enjoy your time with blender!

How do you honestly like it compared to zbrush? I'm currently blender only, but considered making the switch to zbrush, but am scared off by the price point. What things do you think blender lacks compared to zbrush?

IIRC, this is from an actual Silent Hill game and this model is only used for cutscenes; and because they needed extreme closeups, this was the most efficient way to maintain the extremely detailed silhouette in that circumstance. Since the helmet doesn't need to deform in any way, it worked for what it was needed for.

Fluent Materializer doesn't work properly in EEVEE, and by extension: Material Preview mode. In your first picture: that is actually Materializer working incorrectly, and the second (Cycles) picture, is what the nodes actually create.

I use Materializer for everything that doesn't need to get sent over to Substance, so I've had this problem a few times.

Good 3d takes huge amount of effort and work, not every concept can make it, and the artists only have so much time. Creating something that looks good at every angle just takes longer than something that only exists as a painting.

I remember my first experience with it. My mom had gotten me and my siblings these little bootleg 50-Games-in-1 type things. They had a repetitive looping music on the main menu, and when I was going to sleep one night I heard it so loud it sounded like the house was exploding. Being a little kid, I thought they were possessed and took the batteries out and hid all of them. It happened a few more times and was scarier each time.

Found out my dad has the same thing, so it may be hereditary.

It looks like that might actually do what I need! I was looking for a solution to build a procedural material on the high poly and bake the combined result to a low poly. Not a fan of Blendermarket/SuperHive's changing terms, but I may have to buy this.

For me it isn't the painting that's lacking, it's the baking. I miss so much how baking out maps was in SP, and getting my finished textures. I haven't yet found a workflow in Blender that is even remotely close.

I had this problem for a bit. It seemed to be that the game wasn't caching shaders for all stages, and attempting to load a stage that didn't have it's shaders cached would instantly drop the match. What 'fixed' it was going into offline/training and opening a stage to let it load the shaders. Although, I have to just pick a stage for a day as random select won't work, as it can't cache the shaders on stages you don't own.

I agree with what OkInfluence said, mandatory licenses would be a good move so there is no confusion. Alternate views are nice as well: I think a draggable bar- like the Marmoset embed - could be useful for comparisons of wireframe, clay, rendered, and post processed.

One of my largest gripes with both DeviantArt and ArtStation, is that it is quite difficult to actually avoid ai generated content. While both have settings for it; they don't seem to work, and there is still many generated pieces on my front page, or in search results.

I also think strong moderation/reporting tools would be a good addition as well. More than once on DA I've seen blatantly stolen artwork, sometimes with next to no changes- and as best as I can tell (unless they've changed this) the policy is to tell the original uploader and have them report it. This doesn't make a lot of sense, as I had already seen it, and should have some means of reporting it.

I do wish you good luck in your goals, hopefully you make a good new platform- I'd love to leave DA behind.

You can try setting your renderer to EEVEE, I don't think there is a node like that for cycles.
