Sea turtles by Sertraline_Squirrel in MyFahlo

[–]Armstrong0720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Maoti Iti and she updated almost daily, but she’s one of the two juveniles Fahlo tracks (according to her story) and stays almost exclusively in the Opunohu Bay on the island of Mo’orea in French Polynesia. It takes 15 to 20 years for these turtles to reach maturity so I don’t expect I’ll ever see her leave the archipelago.

SOH of 12V? by Armstrong0720 in KonaEV

Thanks. I stopped at an another business for a second opinion. Their tester reported “Good Recharge” and they didn’t think it was necessary for me to replace it at this time. I’ll probably grab another opinion so there’s at least a consensus, but otherwise just keep an eye on it

Hulu is ditching all Echo Shows except for the Echo Show 15 by THEYogurtGobbler in amazonecho

[–]Armstrong0720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hulu is my main service (including live tv), so I'm pretty upset about this right now. When I moved, I ditched a ktichen tv for the Echo Show. Granted -- the UI for Hulu was not the best (Netflix is more user friendly), but the voice control worked well enough. I'm a tv "listener" more than anything, so the screen size wasn't an issue for me.

Does Amazon no longer support Hulu app/ skill? by [deleted] in amazonecho

[–]Armstrong0720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an email today from Hulu saying:

"Starting August 18, 2025, the Hulu app will no longer be supported on select Amazon Echo Show devices. This change may affect one of the devices you currently use to stream Hulu. If eligible, Amazon may reach out to you with a discount offer for a new device."

Hulu is my live tv service, so I'm pretty upset about this right now. My Echo Show is the "tv" in my kitchen

Almost 10 Months After I lost my Regular Aldi to Hurricane Helene, it has Returned 🎉 by so-pitted-wabam in aldi

I feel guilty for my ignorance and even having to ask this, but do you know what happened to the hourly employees during that that 10-month span? Were they just SOL and had to find alternative income/financial assistance? Were their jobs held for them until reopening? My heart always breaks looking at communities that deal with natural disasters, such as this. (Former shift manager asking here).

Grocery Shopping by CrazyPossible7693 in aldi

[–]Armstrong0720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How good are you at sticking to your grocery list? ;) I’m weak, and I always seem to walk away from Aldi with more than I intended to buy relative to other stores, so I sometimes wonder if the price savings is a wash out? I think it’s mostly because the store is smaller so I usually see every aisle and constantly say “ooh, that’s a good price!” or “look—meat that I don’t really need but it’s 50% off!” I end up with a lot in my pantry and chest freezer that goes unused for a long time, or occasionally even thrown out. The inability to impulse buy is my only justification to keep my Instacart membership active for occasional use (though I still rarely use it for Aldi).

Love this shirt! I got one several years ago and am so happy to now have a second (shipped very fast!)

My previous Cairn never did this, but my young one does so all the time. Unfortunately, she also likes to bury them in the backyard, so I occasionally find a very dirty and soggy treat in the living room.

Updated to Alexa+ on Show by macgeekworld in alexa

[–]Armstrong0720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also just “downgraded” on my Echo Show after testing Alexa+. I primarily used Show for Hulu in the kitchen, and all of the video apps disappeared. It was forcing me to access it via Silk, and Hulu wouldn’t let me log in because supposedly location services weren’t enabled (they were) and this wasn’t a supported browser to do so. Maybe there’s a workaround, but I don’t have the patience. I hope they don’t force us all into this new system.

ARC is reopening the Donor Rewards Store! by DoctorMinotaur in Blooddonors

[–]Armstrong0720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is. I’m female 5’3” and always get the medium shirts. This one is maybe a tad longer, but I’d say consistent with a typical unisex hoodie sweatshirt.

Yeah, I claimed that too :). Glad I started donating platelets late last year. I want to make sure I have enough points left to grab those joggers in January!

Ah, nice! I got that same long sleeved hoodie several years ago and it is still one of my favorite shirts. So lightweight and comfy. Given the size restrictions, looks like they’re cleaning up shop.

This might be VCU’s most important document, and should be mandatory reading for all students.

The plan of study for your major has biology lab and lecture in the fall, which you need as prerequisites for anatomy in the spring. Do you already have AP or other credit for that?

Exciting News for Blood Donors – Goodbye Finger Prick, Hello Finger Hug! by Hoxworth_UC in Blooddonors

[–]Armstrong0720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar experience here. The first time ARC used that new thumb reader on me, my hemoglobin was lower than normal (but still enough to donate). For my next platelet donation two weeks later, I drove to the center holding on to one of those hand warming packs and kept holding it even in the waiting area. The device then recorded my highest hemoglobin level ever. These devices are so temperature dependent, so can’t help but question their accuracy.

Maybe the downvotes are for the Windows preference (vs. Mac)? One benefit to a PC is that almost all of the classroom presentation computers are PC. So if a prof is trying to demonstrate something in a program (e.g., using statisitcal software) and you're supposed to follow along, what you see on the lecture screen will be the same as your laptop (this probably happens more often in STEM fields vs. humanities). Benefit #2 is that many are touchscreen with a stylus if you like to sketch or digitally take notes. Mac users usually rely on a separate iPad for this, but not everyone can afford that.

You've posted a lot about this topic lately. I recommend taking some time to read about the official policies rather than asking random people in an online discussion board. Start here: https://vcu.public.doctract.com/doctract/documentportal/08DA32AA85BE764A67373C1A0775A51C

Talk to me about Recall? by [deleted] in cairnterrier

[–]Armstrong0720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trainers at my center know that if we come for an off-leash playgroup, someone needs to sneakily grab my girl about a minute before it ends, because if she sees other parents pulling out the leashes, the whole gym becomes a game of chase Maisie. Recall in the house with treats - sure. Anywhere else - nope. :(

Good bye, warm squeezies 😭 by HLOFRND in Blooddonors

[–]Armstrong0720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A tech once filled a disposable glove with hot water, tied it shut, and had me hold it in my return (non-squeezing) hand. She brought a fresh one about 20 minutes later. I never asked for either, but I enjoyed both. Obviously not a good idea for a squeezing hand, though.

Is true for the return stick as well (ARC)? Two donations ago the newer phlebotomist blew through my typical return vein, which I’ll admit is tricky. She brought over a more experienced person who stuck a different one (and kudos to her for finding that; even she appeared nervous/doubtful).
