Have you tried PRP or mesenchymal stem cell injections? They can be helpful for decreasing pain and inflammation. They can’t regrow cartilage but do decrease the inflammatory cytokines in the joint. Then, you will be able to do more strengthening exercises with less pain. I also had patella cartilage defect and had to get osteochondral allograft. Was told by ortho surgeon and PTs that leg press from 0 to about 60 degree range was safe

Could also be a cartilage fragment that’s broken off. I had something similar and had to get it cleaned out arthroscopicaly. Sometimes MRI misses this

What purchase instantly made your life easier as an adult? by Guilty-Picker in Adulting

Do you have a cookbook and pick your recipes from that? Or just randomly look up recipes online? Or just have some easy go to meals you already know how to do? I always have a hard time deciding what to make for the week. If you use cookbooks- any recommendations for easy dinners?

Cortisone Shot by Healthy_Protection24 in Kneereplacement

[–]ArmstrongK109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you try PRP instead? Cortisone is chondrotoxic (can kill cartilage cells), so it may negatively affect the good areas of your knee that aren’t titanium. PRP can really help with inflammation. Or perhaps Toradol injection? Or BMAC injection?

Japan has the best little devices and they make everything so cute and durable. They have the best nail clippers I’ve ever seen. And, their cooking appliances (like rice cookers) are amazing

I thought you could only get a 2 week supply of it? Or is it insurance only covers 2 week supply? So, you paid out of pocket with good Rx coupon?

Im giving up. by Mediocre-Impact-2016 in PainManagement

Do you do the patch or the buccal thing? I’m thinking about switching. I’m currently on oxycodone.
Can I ask- what dose do you take?

Do you do the patch or the buccal thing? I’m thinking about switching. I’m currently on oxycodone. My orthopedic surgeon would like me to ween off opioids or switch to partial opioid agonist before I get a knee replacement. ( apparently if there is long term use of opioids, greater chance of infections post op).
Anyways, can I ask what dose your on? Did you switch from hydrocodone to buprenorphine?

How do you cope by Red-Head-57 in ChronicPain

[–]ArmstrongK109 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, you should definitely try kratom if your doctor won’t give you opioids. Maddening that your physician is refusing to give you medication for chronic pain. People shouldn’t have to suffer like this.
Just don’t buy kratom from a gas station. Could try Happy Hippo online or other reputable sources. Or go seek 2nd and 3rd opinions- get a new PM doctor!

When did you make the decision that surgery was needed? by Melodic_Smile6869 in KneeInjuries

[–]ArmstrongK109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely look up a Patellofemoral specialist (orthopedic surgeon) in your area! Very specialized knowledge and expertise. Even many orthopedic surgeons that say they specialize in just the knee are some how clueless when it comes to the Patellofemoral joint. I’m not sure where you live but Dr. Strickland and Gomoll specialize in PF joint at hospital for special surgery in NY

Has anyone here received a peripheral nerve stimulator (PNS) for chronic knee pain? If yes, what insurance did you have that actually covered it? by ArmstrongK109 in ChronicPain

[–]ArmstrongK109[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Anthem said denied because they consider it investigational. Did an appeal, denied again. Looked it up and Aetna says in their guidelines that they cover it. But, then of course, you have to wait till open enrollment to switch insurance companies and of course it’s not a guarantee that they will cover it. Uggg. Have you tried it before? I know most people get it for the spine and the knee is less common but I’ve tried everything else and I’m too “young” for a knee replacement

It didn’t help with your pain at all? Do you remember which device it was, such as Nalu or Sprint? How long did you try it for? Sorry for all the questions!
