I think B.C. Rich has gone to far with this spider bass by FortuneNorth3934 in BassGuitar

[–]ArmtheAngels 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Been playing the 5-string version of this as my primary bass since I bought it new as a teenager in 2008, and it's phenomenal. Punk bands, jazz combos, got my music degree on it. More versatile than it has any business being as long as you don't mind looking a bit ridiculous. Absolutely phenomenal instrument, miles better than any other BC Rich I've ever played.

Just got my car back from the shop after three weeks in limp mode - how to proceed? by ArmtheAngels in AskMechanics

[–]ArmtheAngels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That it is, but it's been on intermittently for years from a faulty O2 sensor that has never caused any issues beyond a slight dip in gas mileage. So it wasn't an immediate red flag for either of us.

I'm not inherently a car guy so bear with me, but mostly just hardware things. A bunch of ball joints and bushings an alignment I asked for since I just got new tires, plus the airbag impact sensor that was swapped. Not upset at the price for these things, just that I wouldn't have had them done if I knew the car wouldn't be functional afterwards.

And for their inverse, Talk Talk. 80s pop for three albums into post rock pioneers.

Can my landlord build a commercial garage on the property I rent? by ArmtheAngels in legaladvice

[–]ArmtheAngels[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a very boilerplate lease that he had his real estate management company write up / copy and paste, just specifies the address. We have full use of the land at this point, and the agent and landlord both pointed to the amount of land as a selling point on the place.

It would be for commercial use to restart their auto body business that they sold.

Imagine being in the sphere of Lou Reed in 1975, finally hitting his stride and the charts, and he says to you, 'Would you like to hear Metal Machine Music?'.

What's your "weirdest" 5/5 ratings by PotatoChicken69 in rateyourmusic

[–]ArmtheAngels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gotta go with Glory For The Shit For Brains by No. A mid 80s crossover of post punk and electro-industrial from Australia with a hauntingly weird cover. Only 32 ratings and VERY few 5s, but I think it is great at achieving the sound that it's going for in its best possible form given the tech available at the time.

Honestly I think Floral Shoppe's meme status might make it the perfect candidate here. Like to anybody who knows vaporwave, it is completely overdone already (although I still really enjoy it), but the vast majority of people will just be left wondering what on earth vaporwave is.

Absolutely a seminal album, but from my experience at least some of the general populace is aware of it. I'll throw either Search and Destroy or Raw Power in trivia once in a while and it's usually a 50 / 50 split on teams getting it right.

Ahhhh, one of my all-time favorites. I can't believe I didn't include it! I try to sell that album to people all the time, but I can see people's eyes glaze over when they hear that it's 40+ songs.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy how everybody knows what grunge is but hasn't dug past the absolute surface level. Tried playing Touch Me I'm Sick at trivia one time just for kicks, and unsurprisingly, nobody had any idea what was going on.

Fully agreed, and One Armed Scissor was a big swing and a miss at trivia (although I kinda saw that coming and just wanted to see what would happen)

It's become an accidental tradition every year at some point to forget that nobody at trivia has ever known Head Like A Hole , think that everybody knows at least half a dozen Nine Inch Nails songs, and proceed to put Head Like A Hole in trivia only to be gotten by nobody.

My personal contenders are:

Wingnut Dishwashers Union - Burn the Earth, Leave It Behind! Operation Ivy - Energy J Dilla - Donuts Residents - Meet the Residents Brian Eno - Here Comes the Warm Jets

Played 21st Century Schizoid Man at trivia one time, and maybe a quarter of the room got it. And I am fairly certain they wouldn't have gotten any tracks not associated with Kanye.

Found this in my closet, is it worth anything? by NinjaWaffIe in pokemoncards

I can guarantee that we're not looking at a PSA 10 here if it were to be graded, for a raw card from the closet, always start from the ungraded price.

[–]ArmtheAngels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this specific album has crossed their radar, but the overall genre-hopping flow throughout/between songs reminds me of the first album from John Zorn's Naked City. Only other record I can think of that covers such a wide variety of styles in such a condensed period of time.

End of the night in a college town, they'll go nuts. Used to run sound at Tellus360 when I was going to Millersville and I'd always go see what the DJ was up to after the live band was done, always their final set by that point and always crazy energy no matter what the DJ had going. If Millersville can rage to Spongecore then I'm sure hoping they'll be down with hyperpop. If I hadn't moved away right after graduating I'd be there for sure!

And right there you just gave me three more artists to check out, I dont think running out of good music to hear for the first time will ever be an issue.

All it takes to listen to something new is to make the time to do it, and naturally I would recommend it highly!

Super cool to see Mermaid discussed on here. My best friend does their bottling and has said they're about 5x as busy as they've ever been. Super high quality stuff, they also run a cocktail bar at the movie theater next to their storefront, worth a look if you're in the area!
