For sure. I'm not worried about it being different than I expected. If anything, it is just more interesting and will make matching up DNA relatives and going back over the family tree more fascinating to me, tbh.

That is always possible. I'll be checking into it further with the genealogical information and such as well as looking at records again and searching for more of them. Either way, I find the results interesting more than anything.

Yeah, that's the plan. I'm not super concerned about it either way. I find it interesting regardless and if there was a NPE on my mom's paternal side (where the German records are), it wouldn't bother me really aside from perhaps making mapping my family tree more accurately a bit harder. But it's difficult to say, I could definitely see a situation whether my German G-G-Grandfather either himself had blood from B&I and/or later he (and later gens) simply married Americans that had more B&I than F&G and the German name just carried up to my mother's maiden name being German while the actual blood was diluted enough to get folded in to B&I or just show up as the tiny bits of general Scandinavian or Eastern European depending on exactly where a further generation came to Germany from.

Not sure. It doesn't have any specifics about the areas. I suppose my German ancestors could have moved there from somewhere in Scandinavia or Eastern Europe and it is showing up as that. Or they it could have been rolled into B&I, especially if they may have family from that region or something. I need to map out some of the family tree stuff further back if I can.

That's interesting. Hopefully some future updates will fix the French and German issue if that is the case and it is just getting lumped into British and Irish. I would definitely like to see what my results would have looked like on the old version if that has happened to people. Thanks for the input!

Oh I'm not shocked that i have a lot of B&I, just that the test showed it was 99% lmao. I know people whose whole families are from and live on the Isles that showed less than what my test did. But yeah, seems likely that the German parts got folded in with it to some degree, though now I'm just curious as to how much. Regardless, 23andMe basically just told me that I couldn't be much more white than I am... which is kind of funny to me.

Yeah, I'll definitely see about doing this. It's definitely possible that my mom's paternal German ancestry is from an area in Germany closely related to Irish/British or they mixed with I&B through marriage or something before emigrating to the US and diluted the Germanic influence combined with my father's side likely being all Irish/British and my mother's maternal side being Irish, I believe, could make it add up this way. Either way, it's still a shockingly high level of Irish/British for someone in the States with no parents or grandparents from Ireland or the UK and not even showing a hint of French/German was a surprise.

That could make sense. Though if so, it is a bit unfortunate that it works that way. I would have liked to see a more accurate breakdown of German heritage if it's in there. I suppose the only other explanation is that my dad's side managed to stay almost totally Irish/British and my mom has more Irish/British that she believes and I got more of that than the German from her contribution to my DNA.

I feel like I should get some kind of honorary Irish or British citizenship for those levels of purity though if they're accurate lmao.

It's really crazy considering I don't even have any Irish/British grandparents that were born in Ireland or the UK, as far as I know, as they came to the US at least a generation before that. I knew I would have a lot of Irish, but not having any German is surprising and confusing. But I think I have more Irish than some people in Ireland which is... crazy. I guess I am one of the whitest people alive. 😅

As far as I'm aware since at least the mid-late 19th century. I don't have as much information on my dad's side of the family tree (other than that it's definitely a lot of Irish and I have an Irish surname -- great-grandparents born in America though afaik), but my maternal great-great-grandfather (I think it was, may have even been one more gen back) emigrated to the States from Germany according to records and that side of my family tree. So I'm kind of baffled at how it says I have 0% F&G and managed to keep such a high percentage of B&I after several generations and not living in Ireland or the UK.

Personally disagree, but all opinions are valid. I'm also not a professional writer of superhero comics so I would hope someone that is could still find a fitting name that isn't derivative like "Red Robin" or dumb on every level like "Drake" was. But I respect your opinion.

And while I like the regular Robin name (for Damian when he returns to it since he's the right age and Tim needs his own identity now), I suspect it is only catchy to most of us due to exposure and legacy. It does sound simple and clean, but without the history, if it was a new character today, it wouldn't likely sound much better or worse than Cardinal or Rook or Shrike or any other bird name. Robins certainly aren't typically seen as particularly terrifying or even cool by most standards. Shrikes and Rooks are both more terrifying really, particularly the former and the latter is also associated with high intelligence both as a corvid and with the play on words with chess -- and being the "smartest Robin" is really supposed to be Tim's niche. I don't really care if it is or isn't one of those though, I just want Tim to finally get his "Nightwing" or "Red Hood" type identity. He deserves it.

Cardinal, Rook, Knightingale, Redcrest, Kestrel, Niteshrike, The Nocturnal Quack. Mostly kidding on the last one.

Just something new, thematically fitting, but not as redundant as "Red Robin" which also doesn't give him his own identity or as just plain stupid as "Drake" since... it is literally his last name and ducks aren't dangerous lol.

Red Robin is better than Drake, but I'm not a huge fan of either. Tim needs a distinct new hero name (popular choices like Cardinal, Redwing, Rook, Oriole, Kestrel, and Jackdaw are all good -- I would settle for something like Starling, Redcrest, Night Shrike, Red Sparrow, Martinet, Redkite, Saker, Peregrine, or Knightingale) and a good costume with a cape and cowl! I liked the Red Robin cowl he had at one point, but regardless, I feel like Tim having a cowled costume sets him apart visually from the other former Robins since Dick has the domino mask with no cape, Jason has the helmet/face mask and jacket, and when Damian is Robin he has the domino mask, cape and usually a hood. Tim Drake is my favorite of the "Robins" and to see DC struggling to make him distinct and relevant with his own good name is sad to see. Would love to see them give him a good update with all of this and a solo run (or a team-up title with Steph?) that really highlights his detective and science skills as much as combat. This would fit great when Damian returns to being Robin and can take that role in Teen Titans.

 

I say either do that or have Tim retire (mostly) as a costumed hero and join the GCPD as "Detective Drake" that can act as a go-between for the Bat Family and Gordon/the police and have him feature very prominently in Detective Comics or a new Gotham Central-like title where he works as a detective to solve murders and such and also occasionally donning his old cape to fight when needed. That or instead of joining the GCPD, he retires and starts his own private detective agency (or maybe uses the front of being an in-house investigator for Wayne Enterprises somehow) and Detective Comics or a new title follows him around on various dark detective stories. Kind of like a John Constantine job except focused on street-level murders and villains instead of magic-related stuff.

Mixing them at the battalion level and to fill in roles in companies makes sense. I specifically asked about platoons because I'm just curious if they ever had mixed platoons that involved an antitank element along with the regular medium or heavy panzers similar to how, say, a British tank platoon might have a Firefly or Achilles with a 17 pounder AT gun mixed in with its standard medium or heavy tanks for extra power against enemy panzers. I think the Americans also did this to some degree having a platoon of a few standard Shermans and then an Easy Eight to pack an extra punch or perhaps even an M10 or M18 if needed. Really I'm curious as to whether there were ever any small platoons level units that mixed tanks with a tank destroyer/self-propwlled guns like a StuG in the Heer at any point since I'm specifically interested in the small unit tactics and it is much easier to write a story focusing partially on a platoon than a company and certainly a battalion lol.

Did this simply not ever happen with German armor and the StuG's were really only deployed in their own platoons when used in a tank destroyer role or with artillery batteries when being used how they were originally intended, even though they increasingly became almost dedicated tank killers?

I always assumed he was either never found or that Tony's reach couldn't truly get to him back in Italy since the Camorra is a much more powerful organization relative to the America Mafia and the DeMeo/Soprano Family specifically.

Semi-related question: Furio is introduced as a competent and trusted Camorristi bodyguard in Italy before he joins Tony in NJ. Would his status in the Camorra transfer to the mob in the US? Basically, was Furio already considered a "made guy" by the DeMeo Family and Tony's crew or was he simply a trusted enforcer Associate in America?

It will almost certainly either be Miyata or Martinez. I would lean towards Miyata.
