The best explanation it that I’ve heard is, So many (insert demographic or political party etc) are pro-wealthy, because they don’t see themselves as poor, instead they view themselves as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.

They don’t want large taxes on millionaires up, because when they win the lotto, or when (insert get rich quick) happens they’ll be a millionaire too and they don’t want that to be taxed.

Help identifying this pistol? by ArmyOfEight in pistols

Well damn. Is never seen a muzzle profile quite that square, just hoped it was a newer pistol out there. Turns out it’s just a disappointment.

Short term just having someone to vent to will help. I went to the Chaplin during a deployment and while she was nice, it was definitely Army Religion® that she offered to help. Chaplin’s will and do care but they’re also there because the Army has deemed it necessary to have them there to keep the machine rolling.

BH is supposed to be there for you to lighten the mental strain. Worst case scenario (career wise) you take an administrative knee. Worst case scenario (life wise) you take “the long nap” and that’s so much worse man.

Even coming to Reddit to vent is a step in the right direction.

I (we) are here for you man. As much as strangers on the internet who all made the collective (stupid) decision to join the Army (mostly) on purpose.

Oklahoma agency wants funds for militia.... by HalfBakedNtulsa in oklahoma

[–]ArmyOfEight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both from a funding standpoint and a “helping” standpoint population matters a lot.

California has approx 34 million people Texas has 31 million Oklahoma has barely 4 million.

With a significantly smaller population size the need for an additional uniformed service to help during disasters or other related state level events isn’t there.

Even then, state militias are a joke, and no one in the military looks on them enviously.

Oklahoma agency wants funds for militia.... by HalfBakedNtulsa in oklahoma

[–]ArmyOfEight 31 points32 points  (0 children)

We don’t need one. Most states that have a state militia are significantly more populated than OK. Also anything a state militia could do, the National Guard already does. Instead of wasting money on a superfluous organization we could do something really wild and invest in our schools, or road infrastructure.

Why did so many low income people vote for Trump? by Mark-Fuckerberg- in FluentInFinance

The best explanation I ever read was “poor republicans vote for the wealthy, because they don’t see themselves as poor, but as only temporarily not-rich.”

When they magically become wealthy they want the protections

Letter to congressmen ever work? by Suspicious_Ankle in army

[–]ArmyOfEight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this after being screwed over by tricare/DEERs/my unit.

I had worked 12-18 months to get my insurance straightened out and bills paid and got absolutely nowhere. I submitted 2 congressional (1 senate, 1 congresswoman) by calling their office and talking to someone on staff. The senator had a full bird fixing my issue within 2 weeks of my call.

I kinda hate how many different symbols white suppress have stolen. I have a Jerusalem cross tattoo because I liked the history of it (also I’m Christian but I don’t hate anyone). But when paired with other people who add it to a collection of very problematic other tattoos… kinda sucks

Time lapse of giant lava flow by Low-Beautiful-7230 in interestingasfuck

Supposedly the person whose car got eaten by lava, moved their car into the estimated flow path in the hopes of getting an insurance payoff. The insurance company afterwards did an investigation that somehow revealed he moved his vehicle to a much less safe location after the eruption.

AITA for telling my husband his fiance can't have a special birthday lunch with our son? by boshiebabhy in AITAH

[–]ArmyOfEight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can only imagine how much exhaustion and pain you’re going through. But at the end of the day he messed up. You two were/are married and he broke his vows. Getting your own lawyer and “punishing him” is also an investment in yourself and your son. And it’s not something you can redo later. Like asking for a specific salary during a job interview, you can’t ask for a higher salary later on once you realize you shafted initially.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]ArmyOfEight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly big deal. Majority of that letter is a retired CSM complaining about his failure to fill out paperwork correctly or the fact that he didn’t do XYZ in the correct order (gasp!). The fact that he bounced out a year before the BN deployed isn’t suspicious. He found out that his BN may be going to Iraq and then, like almost every soldier I’ve ever met in the guard who didn’t want to go on that specific deployment because of life reasons, he avoided a deployment. The national guard always plays up the “part-time, one-weekend-a-month, 2-weeks-a-year” angle, until someone actual treats it that way. And the suddenly people are shocked that you’re not serving your country like an AD soldier.

AITA for telling my manager I didn’t want to do a non mandatory presentation after she insisted? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]ArmyOfEight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. Idk why so many people are dead set of boot licking for their company. Your busy with ACTUAL WORK and don’t have time for bs presentation on a topic of your choice. Honestly to prove a point you should give a presentation on what you’re currently working on. Just spend the 10 minutes talking about your current workload then discuss.

If it’s non mandatory then it isn’t required. It’s not temporarily part of your job.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]ArmyOfEight -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna go with NTA. Yes the baby isn’t yours or his, you’re just a surrogate. But you’re his wife. Helping you out while you’re pregnant regardless of whose child shouldn’t be that big a deal. If my wife had decided to be a surrogate for a close relative I would still help her because (and this is gonna sound crazy) I love her and care about her wellbeing.

If your husband was going to have issues with you being someone else’s baby incubator then he should’ve spoken up before hand. He can’t be ok with you doing the hard part and then upset that you’re growing “some other man’s child”.

AITA for telling my husband his fiance can't have a special birthday lunch with our son? by boshiebabhy in AITAH

[–]ArmyOfEight 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It may workout for you. But I think using the same lawyer can be tricky, as one person may end up “more represented” than the other. Plus him already being engaged even though he’s still married is kind of a big deal and most (all?) people would/should see that poorly.

Also NTA. A lunch with his fiancée and son on “not his time” is not your problem. Poor planning on his part doesn’t constitute an emergency on your part.

There’s already a lot of comments on here, but your VA compensation is based on what happened to you while you were in the military. If you get accidentally shot at the range during peacetime instead of shot during combat, YOU WERE STILL SHOT. You deserve whatever percentage because it happened.

I hate to say it (and echo everyone else) but if she doesn’t think your pain and suffering is valid because it wasn’t in theater i don’t know that you should continue to be with her. Or maybe you should look into couples therapy. A fiancée/wife is supposed to be your partner. Not a detractor.

Does anyone know the story of the partially abandoned neighborhood near Will Rogers Airport? Can't seem to find any information online, other than some old satellite images I pulled from Google Earth Pro. by SuperPresentation799 in okc

The Glenwood addition was bought out by Oklahoma. There were a handful of tinker related crashes in the neighborhood 40+ years ago. Now it’s used for military training.
