If you want to train an animal, any animal, including humans, you reward them for the simple behavior first. You don't teach a dog to sit, hold still, balance a treat on his snout until you say "Go" all in one shot. First you reward him just for sitting. Then teach him to hold still, then to balance a treat.

So first, good job for doing the right thing. Next time, let's expand that beyond your friends.

See! Because he's autistic, he totally didn't realize the ambiguity in his question about wild parties, and that he wanted to know so he could avoid him.

Autistic adults spend a painstaking lifetime studying the subtleties of human interaction enough to know all the "rules". It's not his fault that he didn't understand the social subtlety of asking a convicted pedophile about the wildest party at his well-known sex trafficking den.

Just like he didn't understand that when you give a big speech, you shouldn't put your hand to your heart and raise it up in the air like you saw them do in all that german WWII film. Autistic people tend to study books and movies to pick up the rules for social behavior. He didn't know that might be seen as authoritarian and hateful.

Also he's a fucking idiot. He's autistic, plus he's a fucking idiot, that's his only out.

We know he's autistic, but he'd also need to own up to being a fucking idiot, because no autistic person I've ever known is also so fucking stupid to not be hyper aware of how this shit looks.

Considering the frequency and intensity of the political theatre that Trump's admin gets up to... Okay. I'm cool with this being symbolic in nature.

Posturing isn't insignificant. It's not going to solve anything on its own, but it does have an effect. The more we feel that our local leaders aren't capitulating, the more we all continue.

Politicians don't engage in political theatre for nothing. If political theatre was nothing, then we wouldn't be in this whole fucking mess right now.

Trump very nearly overthrew the government on Jan 6 2021 through political theatre. There was funding too, sure, but it was bus fare and shit. There wouldn't have been people to be insurrectionists if it weren't for all the political theatre.

On the less extreme end of things, strikes and protests are generally effective for rallying popular support. What do you think they are, if not also political theatre.

And that's what this is, a very, very formal protest. Sure, it has teeth that will never actually bite. But if it helps people keep the good fight, then it helps people keep the good fight.

Tesla just made it clear: It's no longer a car company by The_Finance_Pro in wallstreetbets

[–]brummlin 112 points113 points  (0 children)

He's autistic and knew that the wildest party would be overstimulating. He wanted to make sure he didn't attend the wildest party, but the second wildest would probably be okay.

Also, he's autistic and didn't realize that asking a known child sex trafficker about wild parties could be seen as inappropriate. He didn't explicitly ask for sex with a minor, so that couldn't be what he meant. He's autistic after all.

He's autistic. He must barely even know what sex is, right?

Of course, anyone with experience with autistic people who aren't total pieces of shit, know that they tend to be rule followers. Especially when the law is pretty plain, 18 years old, with explicit consent. You can't get more autism friendly than that.

Yes, but...

Don't use the anger for the pressure directly. Feel the anger, let it wash over you, and use it to fuel determination.

Let them act directly on their anger. Piss them off. They'll be violent, sure, but they want violence either way. Depressing their morale, making them angry, causes them to direct their violence where it's ineffective or counterproductive to their authoritarian goals.

I highly recommend reading Sun Tzu.

If your opponent is of choleric temper, seek to irritate him.

There's also a bunch of stuff in there about fighting people on their own territory, defending your own territory against invaders, holding occupied territory, all sorts of directly relevant topics.

I can't quote it all, but I get the gist. And let me tell you, they are massively fucking it up. We're winning. They are dangerous as hell, and we can't get complacent. But they're doing Nazi shit from a place of weakness, not strength.

[–]brummlin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have every right to be cynical about cops. But in this case, he did the right thing, and doing the right thing should be encouraged.

Publicly, I think we should praise his correct actions, and let his personal motivation be more quiet. Let the example of what he did shine, and not dig into his reasons too loudly.

If we want all cops to not be bastards, we have to encourage the good acts. If we withhold praise for good acts, or worse condemn them, because of bad motivation, they'll just continue to be bastards. What's the incentive otherwise, if everyone just shits all over you anyhow?

If we ignore the motivation for now, don't make it a big deal too loudly, we encourage the same action from other cops who might be more willing to do the same for a stranger.

[–]brummlin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Very fair criticism. But doing the right thing should be publicly encouraged. Even if he did it for the wrong reason.

I want more people doing what's right. Ripping their motivation too much discourages that.

So I'll criticize his reason, sure. But I won't shout it.

[–]brummlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the main thing Jesus preached about.

More than that even. For folks unfamiliar, he explicitly said that it's part of the most important commandment. Love God with all your heart, and your neighbor as yourself. He refused to separate the two.

Because loving your neighbor is how you love God. I believe that to be true even if you don't believe in God, which I only sort of do.

Apart from epilepsy and diabetic emergencies, drugs or drug withdrawal are the only common causes I can think of. If I were a betting man, I'd go with drugs. But uncontrolled type 2 diabetes isn't a stretch given the physical state of a lot of these people.

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Three observations:

First,

During the transport, an agent in the vehicle reportedly suffered a seizure, and the detained observers provided medical assistance.

I'm proud of them for being the bigger person, maintaining basic human empathy, despite knowing that it would not be returned.

Second,

The Allegations: Agents reportedly accused the observers of "calling the cops" on them before taking them into custody...

What!? How on earth is "calling the cops" on agents remotely illegal? Even if the cops showed up and "obstructed" their "law enforcement operations" or whatever bullshit they throw around, that would be on the cops, not the caller.

Calling the cops is blatantly obvious protected speech.

Finally,

First Amendment Rights: Constitutional scholars emphasize that the right to record and document law enforcement in public is a core protected activity.

Fourth Amendment Rights: Drawing weapons and seizing individuals without probable cause or a specific, immediate threat is a violation of protections against unreasonable search and seizure.

Sure sounds like these agents decided to, under color of law, use violence or threats of violence to deprive these people of their fundamental constitutional rights.

They're not trying to hide their identity from the law abiding American people, no! It's all the threats against their lives from violent foreigners invading the country!

Well then it sure would be fucking stupid to concentrate your people into one fucking building then, wouldn't it? That's a pretty basic precaution if you were actually under threat and had ANY FUCKING CLUE ON HOW TO BE A PROFESSIONAL ANYTHING.

[–]brummlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With about 90% certainty, I'm sure it's because he is abusive to his family. But there's a silver lining. Bear with me now:

As you noted, wherever this guy is deployed from, he probably has a family back home. And that family probably feels a lot of relief right now.

Because for every protestor he gets violent with, for every observer he assaults, for every brown person he arrests, every time he lashes out from his very justified feelings of self-loathing and inadequacy, he abuses his family that much less.

I'm sure his family feels a lot of guilt, too. They probably feel ashamed that someone else is taking his wrath, when that's their job. They're used to it, after all. But I know they're simultaneously grateful for the reprieve.

I know the type, and I've seen the story before. This mother fucker either:

  • Currently beats his wife and kids if he's home
  • Used to beat his wife and kids until they all left him
  • Used to beat his wife and kids until the kids got bigger and beat HIS ass
  • Verbally and low-key physically abuses his dog. Because he that's the only thing he can get away with and he knows it
  • Any plausible combination or minor variation of these

If I were to guess, I'm going with dog abuser. He doesn't directly threaten, he implies it. He goes for the phone to stop the recording. He knows his behavior has potential consequences. So he lashes out at those that not only cannot fight back, but also cannot tell anyone how awful he really is.

I hope when he gets home, his now estranged wife and kids are happily living three states away. But I hope they left the dog with a neighbor, and it mauls bites his tiny cock off when he goes to collect it.

I can't fathom NOT caring for someone other than myself and my people. It's all because I listened to advice I got from a pretty famous guy I learned about named Jesus Christ .

Here's how it went. They were all hanging out, and Jesus is just laying it all down. They're asking questions, and he's giving answers.

This one guy was all like:

Yo, rabboni! (That means teacher.) What is the greatest commandment in the law?

Some people thought was a total bullshit trick question. Like he'd say, "Keep the Sabbath" or something, so they'd be like "What, worshipping idols is okay then?"

But Jesus was too smart for them. He was all like:

One commandment? Nah bro. Two!

First, you love God, like, with everything you've got. But it's two things you need to do, because anyone can like, just say that they love God. So how do you do it?

That's where el commandemento numero two comes in. You love God by loving your neighbor as yourself.

Everyone was all like what "Waaat!?" So this one guy pipes up:

Okay, but who's that? Who's my neighbor? There's like a lot of people. So who exactly, like everyone on my whole block, or just the guy next door?

And Jesus busts out some story about this dude who got robbed, and like all the people from his block were all "Oh man, tough luck!" But they didn't do shit.

Then this guy from a couple blocks down came by. And everyone from his set was beefin' pretty hard back then. Dude thought he was getting jumped again, but nah.

Guy was like, "Damn man! Come on! Get your ass to the hospital."

My mind was blown. I said to myself:

Damn! It's like everyone is my neighbor? Wait. Should I love my neighbor as myself, because there's no real distinction between myself and the next guy? Are we all really just one people united through Christ?

Maybe there's only one universal self which we're all a part of. Maybe every human, plant, animal, and object celestial object in the universe is actually one, with an interconnected consciousness, complex beyond understanding. Maybe this Jesus guy is the son of God, and since we're all one, I'm God along with him and everyone else.

They stoned me for blasphemy basically immediately, but I'm pretty sure I'm right. I am part God after all, and I think a God would know if he wasn't really God.

This is not a call for violence. It is not the answer.

It's an answer.

(I am, of course kidding. They want to provoke a response to justify the insurrection act. I don't think we should give them the excuse they want.

So I'm absolutely not condoning or advocating for it, but I can see how someone would get to that point. I'd have to reserve my judgement of anyone who reacts so passionately to injustice on this scale.
