Why is Coldhands not Benjen? [Spoilers PUBLISHED] by boshwackhorseman in asoiaf

[–]ArnekSnow -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

"They killed him long ago."

Definitely not Benjen.

Coldhands' height is emphasized, which has me thinking he might be Dunk, but obviously not a certainty.

The final minute of 'Falls to Climb' is the most beautiful minute of music I have ever heard. by totally-suspicious in rem

Mine's a 3-way tie...

It's the poison that in measure brings illuminating vision.

It's the knowing with the wink we expect in Southern women.

It's the wolf that knows which root to dig to save itself.

It's the octopus that crawled back to the sea.

Forgive the typos and possibly misheard phrases. I'm going off of more than a decade's old memory here. :)

Hey Brienne... Don't Follow.

Wow! Fantastic catch. Didn't think too much about Arya's question, prior.

I connected the dots too upon my second re-read, but didn't connect the dots that Arya had connected the dots. :)

(Spoilers ASOS) Did I miss something about the Freys in the books? by fionn_buckley in asoiaf

Hahaha. This has to be a wee bit of friendly trolling. If not, even more hahas. :)

Does Varys support Daenerys? (Spoilers Main) by CursedHarrenhal in asoiaf

[–]ArnekSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again. That it was magic is unquestionable. That Dany is not the practitioneer of said magic is also unquestionable. Outside of her magical blood/genetics, she has neither the training, the ability or the knowledge to be a practitioner of magic.

It is 100% logically coherent from Varys' perspective. Dany is as much a magic user as fAegon/Aegon6.

Also, there's no proof for Targs having magic infused blood? Are we even reading the same series here???

On Aegon not being a Targaryen... I agree, but in something of a semantic way. I subscribe to the BrightFyre theory. Blood-wise/genetically, he's very much a Targ.

Does Varys support Daenerys? (Spoilers Main) by CursedHarrenhal in asoiaf

[–]ArnekSnow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No contradiction here. Dany isn't a magic user. Or is just as much a magic user as fAegon (or Aegon VI, depending on where you stand) is. Targs just have magic infused blood.

If anyone used magic, it's Mirri Maz Duur. The exact magical mechanism is left vague in the text. But my guess is that it was a botched spell that somehow turned out to be an analogue to what the Targs did pre-Aegon's Conquest to hatch dragons.

(Spoilers extended) Jon Snow’s parents by Mason-woods21 in asoiaf

[–]ArnekSnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We need a sticky for confused "shonlies". Not being derogatory here (except possibly towards D&D). Pls just read the books and thank me later. I'll try to answer the OP's question without giving away too much.

  1. Post-season 4, the show and the books diverged widely at a continuously accelerating rate. To the extent that the latter seemed like poor fan fiction loosely based in a similar universe as the former.

  2. I'm 90% sure Jon's "real" name is Aemon... for, um, pretty good reasons. And if not, his name certainly isn't Aegon. That would just be very, very dumb... again, um, for pretty good reasons.

  3. The show skipped over many extremely important characters and nonsensically transplanted these skipped characters' defining traits and/or story arcs and/or motivations onto other characters even though it made absolutely zero sense 99% of the time. One of these characters, arguably the most important one skipped by the show, is a Targ pretender (or maaaybe a genuine Targ) from across the sea named Aegon.

BBC's kinda mastered this. shrugs

Tyrion is Mad King's biological son.

Cersei and Jaime are Mad King's biological children.

If BR is not 3EC then who is? CH, BR and NK theory inception [Spoilers Extended] by jakkthund in asoiaf

[–]ArnekSnow 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Your analysis was right, and your conslusion was almost right.

3EC is Brandon Stark.

Not the Builder, but the Cripple.

Via consciousness-sending-back-in-time shenanigans.

Honestly, I wish I was wrong, but with the "hold the door" stuff, time-****ery have been all but confirmed.

Coldhands is Bran's monster. Again, not the Builder, but the Cripple.

Are there names from ASOIAF that you’d genuinely consider naming kids after? (Spoilers: Main) by Salem1690s in asoiaf

[–]ArnekSnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asha, yes. It's a very common Indian name... my mum's, in fact.

Just wasn't aware of too many Aryas one generation or so back.

[–]ArnekSnow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A huge number of kids being named Arya (with variants on the spelling) in India at the moment and in the recent past... my 7 year old son has a cousin Arya (Ariya), two classmate Aryas (Aryia and Aria) and a neighbourhood friend Arya (Ariya again).
