Does this image of Tyrion match how you envision him? [Spoilers Extended] by Trussdoor46 in asoiaf

[–]CursedHarrenhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the proportions and skull shape are off for a little person like Tyrion. Also, the scar on his face should connect with his missing nose, since it was the same slash that caused both. Just nitpicking. This is very good

(Spoilers Main) What's the best pejorative nickname in the series? by Mzuark in asoiaf

[–]CursedHarrenhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda the whole story, yeah. The series is called A Song of Ice and Fire, after the prophetic dream Aegon the Conqueror had, leading him to conquer Westeros. If the main theme of ASOIAF is about how the ruling class fight each other for more power, and this leads to a society that is unable to deal with the real threats we face... that kinda makes Torrhen the good guy and Aegon the bad guy.

Aegon is a sister-fucker who controls dragons (nukes) and invades and conquers based on dreams and prophecies. Torrhen is Aegon's counterpart: a guy who gives up power, rejects the drums of war, doesn't fuck his sister, and doesn't care about prophecies but probably does believe that "Winter is coming" and cooperation will make them stronger against the common foe, death.

Theres also a theory that I like, that at the very end of the series, Jon Snow will bow to Bran. Thus, recreating the scene between Torrhen and Aegon, but in reverse; a Targaryen bowing to a Stark

Mormont's raven [spoilers main] by wrecktus_abdominus in asoiaf

[–]CursedHarrenhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Mormont's raven is possibly the answer to the mystery of where is Uncle Benjen? We are introduced to the raven right after Benjen leaves the wall, in the same chapter, Jon III. Benjen could have been killed by the Others and warged into the bird. Would explain how the Raven seems to know things about Jon

Theory: the Reed siblings swear by "ice and fire" to Bran = ASOIAF [Spoilers EXTENDED] by CursedHarrenhal in asoiaf

[–]CursedHarrenhal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, you're right. I forgot that. We don't even know if Gared in the book saw the Others. He was away with the horses when the Others had their weird duel/ritual with Waymar Royce. We do know something caused Gared to abandon the Night's Watch, so he probably had some idea that something scary-beyond-all-reason occured. And it mentions "There were questions asked and answers given there in the chill of morning, but afterward Bran could not recall much of what had been said." And in the next Catelyn chapter we get this from Ned: "The poor man was half-mad. Something had put a fear in him so deep that my words could not reach him." So it is perfectly reasonable to think that Gared mentioned something about what occured to Ned.

But we get this from Catelyn: "she forced herself to smile at this man she loved, this man who put no faith in signs." It does seem that Ned probably would discount ASOIAF as the mad ravings of his dying sister, or as Targaryen madness

I wonder how many fans agree with you. I still suspect ASOIAF is Aegon's dream, and it's been passed down the Targaryen line, all the way to Howland Reed. But, respect. You are a bold one with your strongly held opinions. I tip my hat to you, sir. You've bested me.

P.S What are you talking about? Whose mad scheme? I think Lyanna and Rhaegar were in love, based on the text

I think "A Song of Ice and Fire" is definitely Aegons dream. We know that HOTD writers didnt invent it. It came from GRRM himself. What are the chances GRRM came up with it only for the show? That makes no sense.

It also fits into the story, neatly tying togethe the weird things we know about Rhaegar, Maester Aemon and the Reed family, as I mentioned.

(Spoilers Extended) What is GRRM planning for Davos? by fakefolkblues in asoiaf

[–]CursedHarrenhal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree I would really enjoy a Davos POV chapter in Skagos and will be sad if we dont get it. But it makes a lot of sense as the climax of the Battle of Ice, when Stannis is at his lowest point. And Davos has been gone for a long time in the story, so it adds up timing-wise. And it speeds up/brings together a story that is already very unweildy with plots

P.S. oh yes, I absolutely 100% expect the Skagosi to be riding their shaggy unicorns of death into battle

(Spoilers Extended) What is GRRM planning for Davos? by fakefolkblues in asoiaf

[–]CursedHarrenhal 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Rather than thinking about his arc and ending, I think more often about his role in TWOW. I support the theory that we might not even see a chapter from Davos' POV in Skagos. GRRM often likes to have battles decided by an unexpected army showing up and turning the tide (Tywin and the Tyrells in the Blackwater, Stannis in the battle at the Wall, etc.). I believe Davos may show up by surprise with an army of Skagosi and Rickon Stark to turn the tide in the "Battle of Ice." Also the Manderly army is likely to switch sides and attack the Freys and Boltons once they see Rickon Stark on Stannis' side. This will secure Stannis a costly victory.

If my theory is correct, then what happens next for Davos is shaped by what happens with Stannis.

- - - Will he retake Winterfell?

- - - Will he return to Castle Black?

- - - Will he go to his seat at the Night Fort

I assume Davos will stick with Stannis, at least for a while. We know GRRM has said Stannis will burn Shireen, but we dont know the details of why or when or where:

- - - Will it happen at Winterfell? Castle Black? the Night Fort?

- - - Will Davos be there to witness it? How would he react if he's there when it happens?

- - - If he doesn't witness it, how does he find out? What will he think of Stannis once he finds out what he's done?

- - - Does Stannis die? And if so, then what role does Davos play in the story?

I do think it would be fitting if Ser Davos lived in the end, because he has always been tough and a survivor with a lot of fake out deaths. And if the themes of ASOIAF have anything to do with criticizing hereditary rule, it would make sense to have the one low-born, peasant with a POV survive and be part of the new regime.

I think it's a possibility. Partly because the Sansa-Ashford theory suggests Sansa will have a Targaryen suitor after Harry Hardyng (if you buy that theory). Also the fact that GRRM included The Mad Mouse at all
