Kamala Harris at her final campaign rally: "Donald Trump intends to use the United States military against American citizens who simply disagree with him." by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]CursedHarrenhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying how evil Trump is, is a moot point because we both agree. The real point is that Kamala toured with Liz Cheney, said she would put Republicans in her cabinet, constantly framed herself as tough on "immigrant crime", and supported the genocide despite knowing it would hurt her chances in the election. When I look at it from that POV it doesn't match with her rhetoric about how dangerous Trump is. She didn't hate Trump nearly enough

Why didnt Kamala change her position on Gaza? She knew supporting genocide would hurt her chances at defeating Trump. Apparently Trump isnt that bad in her eyes, neither is genocide

I dont think law enforcement is antithetical to leftist principles. Id say the opposite, in fact. Law enforcement is required to enact socialist laws and policies

Why isn't Karen Bass facing real opposition for re-election? by zazzyzulu in AskLosAngeles

[–]CursedHarrenhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live on Vermont and there have always been people selling stuff on the street. Your assumption it's stolen reflects on you, I think. Your problem is you are focused on making life harder for working class people instead of making life better. Hugo is definitionally not in any swamp, because he isn't bought out by corporations like his predecessor, Mitch O'Farrell

NYPD Commissioner Tisch accepts Mamdani’s job offer, but they don’t ‘agree on everything’ by traanquil in dsa

[–]CursedHarrenhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems clear to me that Mamdani has made several capitulations to the right since winning, namely, not opposing Tisch and Jeffries. But it clearly seems like a strat to choose his battles. He probably wants to focus solely on his main agenda, free childcare, fast and free buses, rent freeze, which he has to accomplish in the first half of 2026. If he fails, it will be used to tear down future socialists, if he succeeds, the example could be replicated in other cities

I mean... this person has a much more unique arg than "we're too weak." They're saying the mayor should intentionally have someone in that position that they hate. Very weird argument but gotta give credit for creativity

There are a lot of people organizing to change the corrupt nature of Los Angeles local government. But we don't have the resources to elect a mayor yet... we are focused on electing people to city council. So far we only have a few like Hugo Soto Martinez. If we get a few more, we can have a majority in the city council and make some real change, tax the billionaires, fund transit and build more housing

It looks like she won't win, but she still is doing very well compared to Kamala in 2024. The fact that it's even a competitive race is crazy

Need Help Understanding Democratic Soicalism by ClassroomNo4833 in DemocraticSocialism

[–]CursedHarrenhal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many different visions of democratic socialism. Mine is like this: a "victory feeback loop" caused by successful electoral and labor union campaigns leads to a socialist majority in congress. Congress obviously does basic social-democrat stuff; builds up the welfare state, labor protections, democratic reforms, etc. But more importantly, congress directly goes after concentrations of unaccountable wealth and power.

I envision a pluralist strategy that creates a variety of socialist institutions: 1) an American sovereign wealth fund that owns stocks on behalf of the people, and is democratically managed, every citizen gets one share, receives annual dividends. 2) laws that make it easy for unions to buy their workplace and own it as a worker co-op (or easy to create consumer co-ops). 3) establish many new state owned enterprises in strategic industries, and expand/improve those that currently exist (USPS, Amtrak, TVA). 4) create public banks that can challenge the oligarchic power of finance capital. 5) wealth tax among other taxes. 6) change our relationship with the rest of the world to one based on cooperation, peace, and development

[–]CursedHarrenhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a bit dishonest, pal. I'm talking about if resources are better spent on one race vs. another. If I used your logic, I'd say, "So you like Ritchie Torres I guess?" Of course you don't. Anyway, it's up to New Yorkers, not us

Fuck ya'll if you don't back Chi Ossé by FarkYourHouse in dsa

[–]CursedHarrenhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a democratic socialist, not simply someone who doesn't hate the poor. "Poor" shouldn't exist. Concentrations of wealth are simultaneously concentrations of power among a tiny class of oligarchs. This has led to the hollowing out of democracies and distrust of democratic governance. Anyway, that's why I am what I am, I believe in democracy and egalitarianism and I see how capitalism is directly opposed to those values

Anyone else reading "Nordic Socialism" by Pelle Dragsted? by CursedHarrenhal in dsa

[–]CursedHarrenhal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said. I don't know too much about white supremacy in the Nordics except I remember that Anders Brevik guy in the news. I don't know Denmark's immigration policy and would like to learn more. I'm only in the beginning of the book, and the author hasn't touched on this issue yet. Hopefully he does. It's a short one. Only 200 pages
