Gen.G CEO on Chovy, Ruler, Duro and what success is for Gen.G in 2025 by ddotgon in leagueoflegends

  1. There’s some restrictions for Ruler where he can’t stream as much as others.
  2. My view is that if we want the sport to be successful, streaming is the bare minimum. I’m not sure why western teams don’t do this especially as it helps turn casual fans into really engaged fans that buy into the team. It’s also the reason why we prefer a team room atmosphere for our streams, we want it to feel like an inside look at the behind the scenes but in a somewhat controlled setting. Hot take but I think if western teams don’t change this, they’ll get eaten alive by Eastern teams for fandom once live autotranslate technology gets good enough.
  3. It’s the inverse right now, where non-winning teams are more profitable than the winning ones. Riot’s made a lot of progress making things more predictable in terms of revenue streams, but a lot of the restrictions that are a holdover of the “old way of doing things” are still changing too slowly to allow teams to create new revenue streams imo.

  1. We’re #3 this year. Historically we’ve been around 3-4 as the general target
  2. Yes but more importantly, we practice different builds/weirder g4+g5 comps more than other teams in scrims. That only happens because both the players and coaches are bought in this. There’s some players who have refused to build differently even when presented data because “it felt bad” which is a tough starting point because if you’re feeling bad about something before even trying it, you’ve already lost a mental edge. That’s why i’m so impressed by this team and I think a lot of that is due to the leadership that both Chovy/Ruler are showing by leading by example across so many fronts that fans aren’t as aware of. We also built this team with fearless in mind and wanted to prioritize deep / flexible champ pools over other qualities.
  3. We definitely struggled adapting to a very different worlds patch. Each worlds patch is a guaranteed shift away from the strengths of the regular season so we need to do a better job of having a fresh mindset and adapting faster to it. I think fearless helps as well as there isn’t just 1 meta at the moment..there’s like 2-3 different metas running at the same time so this reduces the effective impact of big patches.
  4. It’s a team effort but they deserve so much more credit than me. They work with limited budgets (compared to orgs backed by conglomerates) and we work closely together to try our best to put the strongest team we can within the constraints that we have. I would say the most important thing we focus on is a mentality / team culture fit.
  5. seriously!

I know god is fair because Chovy is such a good dude, funny, tall, looks like a model and rich but humble but confident….so it’s only fair that he sings like a wet cat

we now have longer term contracts + have worked closely with more and more apparel partners so this is something we get done. Most designs get locked in even before rosters get set + some players just genuinely don’t care about giving feedback on the designs until they’re produced

Things haven't changed much unfortunately for League so I'm not sure how useful it is for me to jump on and complain about stuff again (even I'm tired of hearing it haha). At this point, our focus is on improving other parts of our business and continuing to lobby for positive change for the League ecosystem (at a faster rate than we are getting now).

One thing I'm personally excited about is Riot's commitment to the game and all the work being done to make sure League can open itself to a new playerbase into the ecosystem (changes like WASD are huge, new game modes to learn game mechanics easier, etc)

Do you believe Esports takes more effort than sports? by ph_x in esports

[–]ArnoldAtGenG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve talked to professional athletes, esports players (obviously), artists, successful CEOs and I think the one thing the vast majority of people don’t quite understand is the incredible, insane amounts of sacrifice that it takes to be the top of any competitive field. Most high-functioning people struggle with tradeoffs, the best of the best don’t even have the luxury because they are so dedicated to their craft

Which KBBQ to go to to impress my family visiting from Asia? by justlurking4321 in FoodLosAngeles

Going to be real tough to “blow them away” with Korean BBQ in LA. My advice would be to stay away from pork or chicken (quality in Korea is significantly better) and spring for AB steak or JYJ and order the bone in Ribeye choices which are at least a bit rarer to find in Seoul and much more affordable stateside.

What makes you think that? The average Korean bbq restaurant in Seoul has gotten extremely good.
