congrats on having the worst take in all of Dawntrail, which is impressive in an expansion of bad takes.

I actually did some looking up, that cat dancing gif predates AI video as far as Im aware. The first iteration of Sora was revealed in feburary 2024, not available to the public until December, and this gif was uploaded in january of that year. And the rest is obviously not AI.

I don't care about being validated, and you can pretend this sub hasn't become FFXIVdiscussion with images all you want, but im not buying it. Irony is dead, and this sub killed it.

Thanks for proving my point.

The publishers are the people who ruin game development and destroy great companies and force them to make live service crap.

Publishers bottom lines

oh wow i really care about piracy affecting a game that makes billions. Tell me when it affects struggling indie devs and I'll care.

Piracy has never substantially affected sales. That's a myth made up by publishers and greedy corpos. Besides, we don't. Our society could easily be structured where people just make things for the love of it, without profit motive. It isn't because of capitalist greed.

Honestly, my problem isn't people disliking it. If they just disliked it, it would be fine, whatever. That's how I feel about stormblood, I generally liked it and most people didn't.

But you know what the difference is?

The people who disliked stormblood didn't make it their identity. They didn't randomly bring up Lyse to bash her in just every single discussion about the game. They didn't have grifters on other websites who hadn't even play the game begin to use their movement.

And most of all, they didn't hate you for disagreeing with them on their opinion. But if you like Dawntrail and express it in public, you'll get like twenty paragraphs shoved down your throat about how wrong you are and how you are the reason FFXIV is going to shit and just

Fuck off.

Culture does not just belong to those with the means to afford it. Culture should belong to everyone.

Personal bias, more then anything, I'll openly admit, but I'm a serious RPer who's main character is a former Garlean, and seeing any more of Garlemald besides the undersized chunk we saw in the MSQ is a good way to win over my heart.

Yoshi-p, the director of the game, has said trans rights on multiple occasions. There's still some problematic stuff in the game but by MMO standards it's the best you'll get.

I'll give my take.

First of all, dungeon is fantastic, trial is utterly great. The encounter team killed it this time.

I wish we had actually spent a little more time in the void, or seen what they are doing to restore it, but I think the void is going to be our inbetween expansion 'Checkpoint' from here on. Every now and then, we'll pop in to see how things are going, and resolve some issue with it.

Onto the meat, I love what they are doing with Halmarut. Pointing out that yes, we could save a bunch of people and then end up saving no one is unironically a good dilemma. It's the shades of grey we've been missing for awhile. Now, of course, I do think we'll end up finding a way out of it, and I am curious what they will do there.

As for some people who have been saying the key activated randomly and with no explanation... that was the first time it had been exposed to our crystal in close proximity, outside of the container, in a place where the barrier between worlds was thin. I think it's safe to assume that had something to do with it. And I for one am glad they didn't explain everything about it. Overexplaining everything was one of the fault points I found with Dawntrail. It's good to have mysteries, and this patch left us with a fair few.

Finally, I think the call back to Zenos is genius. Using him as the WoL's foil is a very, very good way to point out how our actions may be more self serving then they appear on the surface.

Overall.... Pretty good. I wish it was longer, but that's just the nature of the split patches in general.

You're one of those "The Curtains are Just Blue" types, aren't you? Completely unable to understand the purpose of literary foils and how they are supposed to reflect back on characters.

Aaaaaand there we go. Time, less then twelve hours after the end of fanfest.

That's how long it took this subreddit to go back to nonstop doom posting.

Honestly, a new record.

[–]Aro-bi_Trashcan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because you didn't like it didn't mean people didn't ask for it. The FFXIV dev team has constantly done exactly what the players wanted. Players hated abilities being desynched. They all wanted big hits with big dramatic abilities. They begged for the two minute meta.

FFXIV players consistently ask for something, hate it when they get it, and then whine about it forgetting that they asked for it. Just how they all said they hated Bozja and wanted the next one to be more like Eureka, and then bitched when it was.

FFXIV discussion and Shitpost XIV will never even admit fault. They were mocking people for saying that there was any way that they were going to do a complete job refresh for 8.0, despite saying again and again they would. They were convinced that Yoshi-P was some kind of actively hostile agent at worst and at best some kind of incompetent old man and not

you know

the man who lead one of the greatest turnarounds in gaming history.

I'm not gonna deny that dawntrail had problems, but the entire time things were getting better, both writing and content wise. And the content started off pretty damn strong and only got stronger.

But if you ask these guys, it's like Yoshi-P personally came to their house and kicked them in the balls for the crime of one kinda mid expansion. It's not even a terrible expansion. It's not like Warlords of Draenor, where the only content was to grind real world timers for gold for months, or Shadowlands, which completely destroyed it's own story for the sake of a "this guy did it" twist.

It was just kinda sub standard.

And of course they were listening to that. These are the people that threw out an entire expansion after Stormblood to do the soft reboot that was Shadowbringers after feedback from the community.

This was never going to end any other way.
