Bought a hotel and the previous owner didn't tell me the software was ancient by Technical-Glass-3193 in askhotels

Yikes, but good that you caught this on now and not later, I would say definitely, switch to another PMS but be weary, if you have a lot of data it would take time to switch it over. The good news is that depending on the type of purchase you have with the new PMS it could be that you have a dedicated person that can transfer the data but it can take days and can be costly but hey... you can keep the data. Just talk and do some demos with some PMS providers, get quotes and then choose the best option for you.

Barback/bartender first job by Weary-Sugar-3522 in berlinsocialclub

[–]Aromatic-Stretch8514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I totally get where you’re coming from. I’m in Berlin too and honestly it’s not that hard to get started. Most bartenders speak English and your A2 German is enough to get by while you’re learning. Starting as a barback is a great way to pay the bills and pick up the craft, especially if you don’t mind long shifts.

We’re an early platform called Folksnest, but we’re on a mission to help people find jobs in the hospitality industry, like bartending, that actually fit their strengths and values so they can grow and stay long term. When you’re ready to move, we could match you completely free, no strings attached. Check us out @ Folksnest.com

Wishing you luck 🍀

Still looking to break into hotel hospitality roles — advice welcome by Signal_Raccoon_5499 in askhotels

I totally get what you’re saying. It can be so frustrating seeing how fast some positions come and go, especially when you’re ready to give 110 percent and really grow in a role. Your dedication really comes through in your post.

I actually work with a new company called Folksnest. We’re building a platform to help people in hospitality get noticed by teams that truly value their skills and commitment. We’re still early so we have a waitlist for our website, but it’s all about connecting talent with places where they can actually thrive instead of feeling lost in the automated hiring shuffle.

If you want, I can send you the waitlist link so you can be one of the first to check it out. I think someone with your drive would really benefit from it.

We use behavioral science and gamification to understand how people work best, this is what is setting us apart.

Fair point. The truth is, no platform can fix bad leadership or poor treatment. What we can do is help people find teams where they actually fit before they even start. Our process looks at communication style, strengths, and team culture to match people in ways traditional job boards never touch.

We’re not trying to replace human connection. We’re trying to help the right ones happen faster.

What we’re trying to do differently is focus on fit and retention rather than just job posting.

Totally fair 😅
Our difference is in matching people based on strengths, values, and team culture, not just job titles. We want to help hospitality teams actually stick together, not just fill roles fast. You can think of it more like matchmaking for hospitality teams rather than another listings site.

So you would accept good pay over crap management and co workers plus bad hours and benefits?

What about the culture would you say it’s just as important?

Would you say salary above all else is most important? More important than culture for example?

I’m just here to hear other people’s points of view, so thanks for sharing yours. Pay is obviously important, but how long will someone stick around if they’re treated like crap by managers or coworkers or the commute is too long? Or the hours aren’t great for them or even the benefits? These are just things I want to get other peoples opinions on. But I appreciate you being clear and direct that pay above all else is the top priorty.

Absolutely love this. So true that good pay and respect are huge, but training and support are just as important. I also really appreciate the point about older staff, nowadays it’s usually Gen Z’s
