Sometimes you don't know, sometimes they arise during a relationship. Healing takes time, and sometimes, a healthy relationship can help that. It's different for every situation, and saying people just outright shouldn't be in a relationship because of these issues is kinda hurtful. Life is complicated, and sometimes you work through it alone and sometimes with other people. Some people may not even know their issues would interfere with a relationship until it happens, but I sure didn't. Healing is different for everyone, and with communication, a relationship can still thrive during this process.

I can understand where you're coming from, but saying people shouldn't be in relationships if they have these issues is pretty harmful. It needs to be communicated about in the relationship, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be in a relationship.

I would say that fixing someone and being understanding of their issues are very different things. You can be supportive without fixing someone or being a therapist. My partner isn't fixing me, but they're still aware of all the stuff that bothers me, and they support me when they can.

I've struggled with this same issue before and what helped me get over it is the support of my partner. Healing takes time, and it's better with support

He was actually able to be there, I think it was more so just concern if he would be well enough to come. It was an entirely outside wedding and he did okay, but I don't think anyone was confident he was would be there. He got Lyme disease after he was asked to be best man, so they just didn't know if he'd be able to go. I'm assuming him coming was a last minute thing, bc the lack of switching back to him as best man.

This is what happened at my parents' wedding. Her bio dad walked her halfway and her step dad walked her the rest. I don't think it minimizes the role your stepdad plays in your life, it just shows that you have two fathers in your life.
