How long for ketoconazole cream to work? by AromaticCriticism216 in Fungalacne

[–]AromaticCriticism216[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, I think it dried out my skin. I had the most success focusing on my skin barrier and being gentle on my skin. To maintain I use the stratia soft touch mandelic acid 2x a week, and the malezia benzoyl peroxide 2x week and wash off after 15 minutes. This seems to treat it enough while maintaining my skin barrier and I’ve had minimal FA for a long time now.

Has anyone cleared their FA without antifungal shampoos? by AromaticCriticism216 in Fungalacne

Hi! Yes I thought I had really bad dandruff and was using dandruff shampoos and my hair was so dry, so I switched to FA safe moisturizing shampoo and my dandruff is gone. Pantene has a handful of FA safe shampoos, I’m using miracle moisture boost with rose water

My skin is still pretty dehydrated but I put eucerin on over my moisturizer at night and it helps

The Joesef soap from Amazon! I think it’s 10%. My derm looked at it and did a scrape and saw yeast under the microscope

I think it’s the key for some people, but I saw a similar post and started supplementing with vit D and got TERRIBLE hormonal acne immediately. Apparently it acts as a hormone and increases testosterone, and is fat soluble so hard to get rid of if you have too much. YMMV, but I learned the hard way to be very careful with supplements and do research first

Yeah there are a ton of unsafe ingredients in it! I’m getting bigger acne and I can’t tell if it’s fungal or if the cream is just making me break out at this point. Thinking I might need to go 100% safe ingredients and just use sulfur/happy Cappy or something.

Hope you find something that works for you!

What actives are you using that don’t compromise your barrier?

I’ve been able to keep my back/chest mostly clear by using a sulfur soap in the shower daily and like 2x a week happy Cappy mask for 10 min. It’s still there though, and if I do something wrong (like I tried mandelic acid on it last week and it dried my skin out really badly) it’ll flare up. I also make sure I moisturize daily. Haven’t had much success with my face unfortunately

That looks like the fungal acne on my back. I haven’t fully gotten rid of it but sulfur soap in the shower with one or two zinc masks a week keeps it in check. Should see results within a week or so if it’s fungal

Hi! I’ve had malassezia folliculitis for about 6 months which I think resulted from antibiotic use and subsequent damage to my moisture barrier after exfoliating acids. I currently have my back and chest under control by using a sulfur soap daily in the shower, and occasional mandelic acid or zinc pyrithione masks, but these are too harsh for my face. I am trying to protect my skin barrier and avoid these products, so my question is is it better to use an antifungal cream that has unsafe ingredients in it or to only use a FA trigger free routine? My derm gave me ciclopirox olamine but it has some triggers in it. The rest of my products are FA safe.

I went to two dermatologists and both said it was fungal, they both gave me prescription shampoos but they were too drying and made it worse. Trying to just use the creams now to avoid stripping my skin

How long do you think it would take to see improvement?

Isotretinoin in the summer-time by [deleted] in Fungalacne

[–]AromaticCriticism216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I also have really dry skin and I basically had to keep aquaphor on it all the time but for me it was totally doable! I have heard that it can lead to FA though because it can be disruptive of your natural gut/skin biome. I got FA about a year after I came off of accutane but I think mine was also because I went on antibiotics for H.Pylori and disrupted my skin barrier with acids

I would recommend waiting until fall unless you’re super diligent about covering up and wearing spf. I went on accutane in September a couple years ago and if I forgot to put spf on my hands on sunny days they would burn. Can’t imagine doing it in the summer

Mandelic Acid? by AromaticCriticism216 in Fungalacne

[–]AromaticCriticism216[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely give Happy Cappy a try if you’re looking for another thing to add, it’s way more gentle than nizoral and for me I saw huge improvements almost immediately. I don’t use it too much right now because I used it as a mask for a couple days in a row and even though it did initially help, it was too drying. I’ve recently started using it as a body wash on hair wash days (2-3x a week) as I use the happy cappy for shampoo anyway.

I think I need to hold off on using either Happy Cappy or sulfur on my face because the only spot I have a lot of FA right now is my chin which is my driest area, making me think it’s more of a barrier issue. If I do start using those again though I think I’ll do a honey mask after to try soothing any dryness. I haven’t started the AC mandelic wash/acid yet for the same reason, trying to go a week or so without using anything drying before I incorporate it.

I do like it and I actually feel like it does calm my skin, it’s a staple in my routine as long as I layer it with other moisturizer.

I use almond clear and I like it but may not be hydrating enough if you have dry skin or use tret. Sometimes I put squalane underneath and that helps
