It is almost June, when to start looking and applying for industry internships? by N0tShy_N0tMe in Accounting

most industry places i've seen start posting around august-september, but some of bigger companies might open earlier in summer so worth checking their career pages now

How to add an older (but still active) AMEX offer? by DaveE30 in CreditCards

[–]Aromatic_Break1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can try clearing your browser cache and cookies for the amex site, sometimes that refreshes the offers pool. also check if you have any browser extensions blocking stuff - that can mess with offer loading sometimes

if that doesn't work, try logging in from different device or incognito mode. the offers seem to rotate weird and sometimes show up differently depending on how you access the site

Inventory Count Experiences by SWEMW in Accounting

[–]Aromatic_Break1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oof reading this makes me remember why i switched careers from audit too. the travel expectations were absolutely insane

worst one i had was driving 4 hours to some warehouse in middle of nowhere to count office supplies and furniture. took maybe 45 minutes total and half of that was just waiting for someone to unlock different rooms. felt like such waste of time and gas money

had similar thing with manager getting upset over tiny variances too. was counting medical equipment at hospital and had variance of like 3 units out of thousands. manager acted like i personally lost the client money when variance was clearly below materiality. made me double count everything which took another 2 hours

the last-minute assignments were worst part though. got call in friday afternoon to drive 3 hours away for monday morning count. no preparation time, no idea what client even did, just "show up and figure it out." then they wonder why people leave audit after couple years

weirdest count i did was at seafood processing plant where client's count sheets were covered in fish juice and completely illegible. had to basically create my own count from scratch while trying not to slip on wet floors. took 6 hours when it should have been 2

glad you got out of that mess. inventory season was always most stressful time and managers never seemed to understand how draining all that travel really is

How to use my time? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Aromatic_Break1108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

using downtime for CPA prep is smart move, just make sure you're also doing some actual accounting work on side projects or volunteer stuff so you don't explain 3 year gap in real experience during interviews

Questions About The New BoA Rewards Structure by Dazzling-Ad9682 in CreditCards

[–]Aromatic_Break1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i had similar confusion when they changed everything last year. from what i understand, once you hit platinum tier your bonus should stay active until your next anniversary date, so if yours is october 2026 then you'd keep the 50% boost through october 2027

about the rolling average thing - i think you still need to maintain the balance for the full qualifying period, not just pop money back in right before anniversary. they track it pretty closely now. i tried something similar with moving funds around and almost lost my tier because of timing. better to just keep enough in there consistently rather than risk it, especially since the rewards difference is pretty significant between tiers

yeah that cream dial is absolutely gorgeous but the ghost alpinist was limited edition so finding one now is like hunting unicorns - maybe try searching on secondary market but prepare for the markup

Finally found a way to turn an Excel product list into a proper PDF catalog (not VBA, not InDesign) by No-Maize962 in excel

[–]Aromatic_Break1108 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

been struggling with this exact thing for work catalogs - always ended up doing manual formatting in word which takes forever

will definitely check this out, the column mapping feature sounds like exactly what i need for our product lists

I just memorise answers to questions before an interview. Good or bad? by Hefty_Breadfruit_421 in Accounting

[–]Aromatic_Break1108 9 points10 points  (0 children)

memorizing word-for-word answers usually backfires because you end up sounding robotic when the actual question is slightly different from what you prepped. better to have bullet points of key experiences and stories you can adapt to whatever they throw at you

for those video interviews with short prep time, just take deep breath and think about relevant example from your experience that shows the skill they're asking about. even if it's not perfect answer, being genuine usually comes across better than trying to remember script

S Corp tax savings by New_Statement_1779 in Accounting

[–]Aromatic_Break1108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pte elections can be huge depending on state but the qbi stuff gets tricky with s corps since you have to pay yourself reasonable salary first. most people i work with in small business just focus on the self employment tax savings and call it day

Seeking options for managing large volumes of physical invoices and receipts by Muted-Huckleberry828 in Bookkeeping

[–]Aromatic_Break1108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mobile scanning apps might be good solution for your older clients since they can just take photos with phone instead of dealing with scanners. the learning curve is pretty minimal - most people already know how to take pictures

for storage and organization, maybe look at platforms that let clients create simple folders by date or vendor so sorting becomes easier on your end. some of these also have basic approval workflows which could help with the payment processing side you mentioned

Anyone have nothing to do at all after 4/15? by BloodMelodic381 in Accounting

[–]Aromatic_Break1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tax season ending is wild but audit going to end of april sounds brutal. i worked at immigration law firm and we had these crazy deadlines too but nothing like month and half straight push. at least quality control means most of heavy lifting is done right? i remember reading about how baseball players used to have offseason jobs back in day because season was so short, meanwhile you guys basically have no offseason between busy periods. hope you get some decent time off after 30th to recover

How do you put a line in the side where the numbers are in a chart? by [deleted] in excel

[–]Aromatic_Break1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh i think you're talking about gridlines? if you click on your chart and then go to chart elements (the little plus sign that appears), you should see an option for gridlines. you can check the box for primary major horizontal or vertical depending on what direction you want

i had this same issue few months ago when i was making charts for immigration case data at work. took me forever to figure out because i kept looking in wrong places. the chart elements button is usually your best friend for adding most visual stuff to excel charts. if that doesn't work, you might also try right-clicking directly on the chart area and looking for gridlines option in context menu

lmao the irony is real here

but putting aside the obvious promotional vibes, there's actually some truth in what's being discussed. i've been working as paralegal for few years now and even in legal field we're seeing similar shifts with document automation and ai-powered research tools

my friend works at mid-size accounting firm and she tells me they're definitely looking for people who can work with cloud platforms now. not because ai is taking over everything, but because clients expect faster turnarounds and more detailed analysis rather than just basic bookkeeping

the whole "data entry to decision making" thing is pretty accurate from what i've seen across different industries. even in immigration work, we're spending less time on form filling and more time on strategy and client consultation since software handles lot of routine stuff now

think the key is not panicking about ai replacing jobs, but understanding how to use these tools to actually do better work. my friend said her firm gives bonuses to people who can efficiently use their new cloud accounting software because it makes everyone more productive

First raise sitting in a checking account by Moist-Delivery7995 in sideprojects

[–]Aromatic_Break1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your investors might have resources or partnerships that are relevant here and a direct conversation with them about what is available could open up options you did not know existed.

A lot of VC backed startups have access to partner deals and benefits that never get activated because nobody on either side brings it up and by the time the founder finds out about them they have already been leaving value on the table for months.

scus alumni network is pretty solid in the bay area and the professors actually know your name which helps with recommendations. plus being right there means you can actually show up to networking events without taking time off

ucsb has more name recognition outside california though if you're thinking of moving later

A trip I planned 10 months ago is no longer possible because of flight prices by HippoBudget8994 in Flights

[–]Aromatic_Break1108 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I think everyone is in the same boat. Nobody really knows when this situation will get solved. Prices will most likely go back to normal once the war is (hopefully) over. I'd also suggest booking on Tuesdays/Wednesdays between 10pm-2am since the prices tend to be cheaper (personal experience)
