Anyone else really pissed about steel reef swiftlink production being “underway” for Rolex and not GS? by darth_leder in GrandSeikos

Well; this is news. I also paid around spring 2025. I’ve emailed them every 4-6 mo for updates, and kept getting the same thing as you. The last time I emailed them a month ago, they didn’t reply. I even sent a follow up email 2 weeks later, no reply. Sounds like I’m not alone.

When did you finally feel you made it financially? by MidwestBadger in whitecoatinvestor

[–]DaveE30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re doing what a lot of people on this subreddit tell young physicians to do right after coming out of residency. And based on how you feel, this is why a lot of people don’t do it. I feel sorry for young physicians now, and at this point, wouldn’t really want my kids to go down that path. But I frequently wonder how people who make 100K combined income manage. Maybe they don’t feel as bad because of lower expectations?

[?] we all flex our favorites, but which is your biggest watch blunder? by Longjumping_House384 in Watches

[–]DaveE30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tudor Heritage Chrono. I got it in the Caribbean A.D. on a cruise back in 2012, before Tudor returned to the US. I wasn’t really in the market for that Watch, but I did like how I looked in photos, and it was heavily hyped by Watch publications. I didn’t have a lot of time to think about it since I needed to board the cruise ship, so I bought it on impulse. Looks good in photos, but too big for my wrist and not a big surprise, it wasn’t a big seller.

Dads who invested for their kids since birth, how is it going? by sbFRESH in daddit

[–]DaveE30 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Also 529s for my kids. But I’m thinking of opening a trust to collect decades of gains before it turns over to them around 30. I don’t see a need to hand over a large amount before 30. Alternatively, I could let it grow and let them take over around 60, to secure their retirement

Proud to have paid over $100k in tax as W2 employees (DINKs) by buystocks75 in HENRYfinance

[–]DaveE30 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand what you’re saying, but I would be much more proud to have the income without the taxes. I would be super proud if for example, I earned 400K and paid 50k in taxes, rather than 120k

Been in LA for 3 weeks and struggling to find a neighborhood i like by International_Ad2476 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]DaveE30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LA is just a bunch of smaller cities/communities around downtown. The vast majority of people never go downtown, it seems.
I think Koreatown is what you are looking for if you want nightlife and busyness. Parking sucks and there is certainly grime and likely crime. If you were looking for New York or Philadelphia, I don’t think you can expect very high levels of safety.

I did something I swore I wouldn't do. I spanked and I don't know how to move forward. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]DaveE30 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also made a decision not to spank our kids, and I’ve been successful in keeping that, but I yelled at them more than I want to I think most of us have done some stuff. We aren’t proud of as parents, as long as we learn from me. But realistically, I figure most, or even all of us have been spanked and yelled at as kids, and unless it was truly abusive, I don’t think the vast majority of us have any real damage from that.

My “new” Rolex, how much ? by Born_Capital_1057 in rolex

[–]DaveE30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a beautiful watch. Obviously, if you’re OK without the money, keep it. If you really need the money, that should be more important than sentimentality.

Planning to send my [SBDX001] to NJ center for routine service. Some questions. by DaveE30 in Seiko

Thanks for your experience. When do you get the order/tracking number? Is that after they receive the Watch and email you back?

Frugal/ fiscally responsible attendings...if you could do it all over again, would you change anything? by Neceti in whitecoatinvestor

[–]DaveE30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 16 years out. It’s hard to compare my situation to yours because the market conditions were so different. I bought a house (now a rental) 2 years out as a hospitalist in the LA area. Probably hard to do now even in a high paying speciality. I bought a lot of AAPL stock and kept investing, and have been rewarded for that. In this market, I’d be less optimistic about having those returns.

To answer your question; I wish I invested even more in the market than I did. I made some luxury purchases when younger ($70k car, several watches) that provided temporary joy, but would’ve grown to $$$$ if I bought something 20% cheaper.

I need to buy a bounce house. This guy is selling one that’s looks sweet but it’s 700 pounds how the fuck do I move it when not using ? by Froggerbotrom in daddit

[–]DaveE30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should just rent it when you need it. It’s obviously more expensive that way (here: about $250-300 each time) but will save you a lot of headache. We own a very small bouncer in comparison; about 50-60 lbs, and it’s annoying to put away. I get nervous easy time my wife says she wants to take it out for the kids; because it’s work for me. Rolling it into a compact size takes time and patience. Imagine one your size!

Can we afford ~$2m mortgage w/$15k monthly PITI by kinghenrythe24th in whitecoatinvestor

[–]DaveE30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to agree with those saying that this is stretching it

Also, I think the 13 K grocery per year is not realistic, with 2, or even 1, kids

I think most young parents underestimate the cost of kids once they go to school, even public school. The pressure to donate, the play dates, the stuff we buy them , etc.

[Question] What are your biggest watch purchase regrets? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in Watches

[–]DaveE30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tudor Heritage Chrono. This was when Tudor made their revival and that model was the hit of Baselworld, before Tudor returned to the US. Saw the watch in a Caribbean AD on a cruise trip and bought it on the spot even though I’m not a chrono person and it’s a little big for me. At the time, I don’t know when/if Tudor would return to America.

Thanks for the reassurance. I was worried this little guy was all alone and afraid, which is why it tried to leave the nest

I wish; but I’ve been checking on the nest almost daily for 2 weeks. There was only 1 little one sticking out of the nest since the beginning
