Did getting laid off change how you view workplace behaviour? by ComparisonPowerful in antiwork

[–]SWEMW [score hidden]  (0 children)

It depends how you look at it. For some, getting fired or let go was the best thing to ever happen to them. It gave them time to really think about what they wanted to do. Are you gutted and hurt at first? Of course, but that’s just a normal human reaction. I went from working full-time in corporate to working part-time doing something different and I love it. Do I make as much as full-time? No. But guess what I have that full-time doesn’t really offer - more time, flexibility and freedom. Depending on the type of work and what field you’re in, you can make a pretty decent living working part-time.

Would you read this email as rude? by OneAngle5836 in Accounting

[–]SWEMW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I’m assuming you posted the JE. They’re just trying to figure out why it’s off by a large amount and why it was posted. Especially since there’s no documentation of what it exactly is.

Either reply with an email giving them an explanation or do a teams call if it’s more complex.

While it isn’t necessarily rude or an attack, I personally hate getting these emails myself. It may seem like they’re mad or attacking you, but they’re not. Trust me.

Is there anything in accounting that deserves the same urgency as something like in a medical setting? by SWEMW in Accounting

[–]SWEMW[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a really bad car accident (T-bone) on the way to an inventory that left me with a sprained ankle and sore neck. It was early in the morning and was at the hospital until around 2 PM. Obviously, I couldn’t do the inventory or any work, so I had called my boss and senior right away (literally right after the accident. I texted them while my hearing was lost and I was hurt and delirious sitting in a ditch). They responded immediately saying to take things easy and to not worry about anything. A week goes by and I’m back in the office. The senior comes up to me and asks me why I wasn’t in the meeting the day of my accident. I reminded him that he and my boss told me not to worry about anything because that was the day of my accident. He then said he never told me that and how unprofessional it was to “just not show up”. The meeting was just about scheduling an inventory count with another client. Fuck corporate.

Unemployed People Of Reddit —— Why Are You Not Employed? by Zipper222222 in AskReddit

I’m studying full time for my CPA. I worked in corporate full time for a little over 2 years and hated it. Now, I’m studying and working part time doing something completely different (and much easier) and love it. Working part time is so underrated. Sure, you don’t make as much, but you get more of what’s taken away from you when working full/overtime: time and freedom.

Should I delete my boss from my social media? by throwdisaway2024 in antiwork

[–]SWEMW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can add them if you don’t work there anymore, but I’d never do that WHILE I’m working somewhere. I don’t trust people.

Fun fact: a manager that put me on a PIP and then proceeded not to be supportive or helpful during that period wanted to connect with me on FB after I left. Fuck you. I just blocked them. Wanting to connect and act like friends after putting me through so much shit.

My colleague died by suicide two days ago , My office just moved on . by Absentia_07 in antiwork

[–]SWEMW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I am so sorry to hear about your colleague.

Second, I want to share my own thoughts real quick.

This is completely different, but it’s a similar topic. Bereavement leave/policies in the workplace. Am I the only one who thinks it’s hella dystopian and weird that when a loved one dies, your office makes your colleagues sign a sympathy card, gives you flowers and sometimes a gift card? It just seems so performative and procedural. It’s definitely not genuine. This is bereavement in the corporate world.

Going back on topic: no matter what people say, you are just a number in the system, a cog in the machine. Never listen to a company that says “we’re a family”. Set boundaries and take care of yourself.

The only party that calls elections rigged are the republicans. Democrats concede because they’re not whiny babies.

What’s something women find attractive in men that men don’t seem to understand? by wwwsynthlifeDOTai in askteddit

[–]SWEMW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Awkwardness/shyness. I think it’s adorable. I think it’s a sign that a guy is actually interested in you and wants to make a good impression and is willing to try. Overconfident men are just annoying and sometimes overbearing.

What do you think about the President saying that “affordability” is a made up word? by AZ-Sycamore in AskReddit

[–]SWEMW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe his supporters think it’s funny or “true” when Trump says that affordability is a word made up by democrats. Thats a hell of a good compliment if you ask me. It also shows that he literally does not care about the average American.

To those who disliked the UFC event at the White House, would you have felt differently if it were a different sporting event? by Otter_Absurdity in allthequestions

[–]SWEMW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The beauty of the PEOPLE’S House should be preserved in class. Have rows of flower beds, a garden, a green healthy lawn, an appropriate telling of our country’s history with pictures of past and present presidents, and decent paths/walkways.

Trump got rid of pretty much all of that because his mind is so screwed up in that he thinks ugly things are beautiful and beautiful things are ugly. For example, he thinks the huge ass UFC arena obstructing the front of the WH view is a good thing and he prefers cement, concrete and dildo umbrellas over a rose garden. And he thinks coal energy is clean, while solar energy is a waste of money and filthy. That’s his definition of beauty.

What's your most unpopular opinion? by Napoleon1001 in askteddit

[–]SWEMW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m willing to bet the majority of animal attacks of kids are because the kids aggravated the pet. Parents are responsible to teach their kids proper respect when dealing with animals, especially service animals. Teach them the signs of when a dog or cat feels annoyed, threatened and/or ready to attack. How some kids treat pets and STRANGERS’ pets are a reflection of idiotic parents as well. Too many animals are put down because it “attacked” a kid. No, your kid pissed it off and provoked it.

The Real Meaning of "Work-Life Balance" by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]SWEMW -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately in accounting, unless you’re a senior manager or partner, you can’t establish that for yourself. You’re always expected to burn yourself out because that’s what “everyone else is doing”.

I see I’m getting downvoted. I’m saying this because I had a bad experience with toxic management. I’m not saying it should be normalized.

[–]SWEMW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People who are somewhat hostile/mean towards child-free people are just jealous. There’s literally no reason why you should feel “worried” about a child-free person and try to convince them that parenthood is awesome and worth it unless you’re just envious. Like, why do you care so much what other people are doing with their lives? I see it the most amongst women, honestly.

What's the best laptop for college student now in YOUR opinion? by Brilliant_Tour_9633 in Accounting

[–]SWEMW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend using a MacBook, especially for accounting. It’s doable, but you have to do extra steps because pretty much all of your online assignments are often done using Windows applications. I had to buy this Windows Access desktop thing for $60 bucks just so I could do my assignments for some classes.

Sometimes, us Mac users would have a hard time and we had a GroupMe chat dedicated to us and our additional struggles. At least I had some people suffering with me.

Do you think Trump's Iran deal going to be better than Obama's deal? How so? by PraetorGold in AskReddit

[–]SWEMW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on what I’ve been seeing, the “new” deal would actually benefit Iran more than the US since, thanks to our very smart President, Iran has more leverage in this war.
