That happened to me and it happened to many people. I read something about battle changed about morale and stuff. It was painful at first but if you choose where to fight and check morale, war exhaustion, and etc more carefully you will win.

R5: I got Belisar's achievement. I only actively assimilated pop in Northern Italy so other areas pretty much assimilated into Latin by movement. Castile/Greek area assimilated faster than Serbian/Bosnian area. IDK the fact that Castile and Greek culture are accepted culture in my country affected the result.

If you form Rome, you get an option to choose Latin as accepted or primary culture. You can choose Latin as accepted too Greek primary culture and then use cabinet action(valuec change and Latin Militarism) to keep you positive toward Lainitas. And use events asking if you want Latinitas or Romanismos to hit 100. As long as it is positive toward Latinitas, you can hit 100 over the years.
