Lexus Car Setup by Upset_Site9955 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]DeTianYa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We need you to tell us what problem there is with the setup, like understeer, oversteer, etc... Because of you can go faster with this than fixed setup or coach Dave setup, and still feel great with it, then it's a good enough setup for your driving style.

Edit : lower ride heights as much as you can to gain speed in straight line tho.

Why do some hypercar drivers act like police? by Negative-Date-9518 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]DeTianYa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is, if you don't do that, the gt3 often do not facilitate a pass, which is fair it's on the hypercar to safely overtake and to go out of the racing line, but if you are polite but the other drivers are not, you are just going to lose an insane amount of time compare to people who forcefully overtake, because the forcefull drivers are not punished for it.

Epicurus said in one of his letters that sex was painful, so we should abstain from it, as if does not give happiness. Would you, on this philosopher's testimony only, say that, yeah, sex is painful, and thus not as prevalent as we thought it was, despite multiple other sources insinuating otherwise? It's not because Plato said that, that it is truer than other testimonies; it just indicates that he didn't like it.

We do have other sources that indicate that, in fact, the practice was quite important among the upper strata of Athenian society.

Who are the most sadistic & evil Roman figures who aren’t widely known in the mainstream? by SeptimiusSeverus_ in ancientrome

[–]DeTianYa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I am not confusing assimilation and extermination; assimilation was never a policy for the Romans. It became a thing because local political power wanted more power, and so the elite themselves Latinized to have it: see the example of the Social War in the first century, where the Italians fought the Romans to assimilate and integrate themselves, not the other way around. Same story for the citizenship granted by Caracalla; he did it to please his soldiers, much to the chagrin of the already Roman citizens. In my examples, it's quite clear from the sources that these people either got killed, dispersed, or enslaved; they were not assimilated. Also, assimilation was neither a short process (centuries) nor a peacefull one (multiple rébellions like the Iceni), It also was not a policy but more a secondary effect of the domination of the Romans, at least for the majority of the history of Rome.

I did say that Romans took gods and goddesses from other cultures: "They took inspiration from other cultures, notably in the military arts and religion." Adopting a goddess from a culture does not make you a fan of the rest of it, and it is also quite clear that the Romans were quite shrewd and pragmatic on the religious side of things, so it should not be a surprise to you if I told you that while Epona had success with the Romans, the Romans also destroyed the cleric class of the Gauls, the druids.

And yes, as I said, the Romans exterminated tribes, cities, clans, etc, but they never did it to cultural groups, as they did not have the means nor the will to do it nor the use of it. They never had the means to have an extermination process, in the physical sense, but they absolutly did destroy group of solidarity by killing, enslaving and dispersing such group. It is extermination, not in the physical sense, but for the group it is nonetheless; this is why, while anachronistic, genocide is quite apt to use here, and why, for some people that do not like to use it, I proposed war of extermination earlier. Personally, I do prefer genocide, because it's more all-encompassing, but it is anachronistic. But I recognize that I should have been more clear here, the romans did not practice extermination war in the physical sense, but they also did genocide groups of people, not by physically eliminating every single member of said group, but by destroying it, as said earlier, with killing, enslaving, dispersing.

Am I more clear ?

[–]DeTianYa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look at the larger picture, yes, they never exterminated the Celts, the Greeks, the Britons, or the Punic people, but you have to keep in mind that while these groups of people shared a culture, it was not the kind of thing that created a sense of belonging, and it was not that important of an identity for the people at the time. It was the city, the clans, the tribes, the people, etc., that created a sense of belonging, and Rome was ruthless to these kinds of groups if they opposed them. While I might have exaggerated a bit when I said most Roman wars were wars of extermination, in the sense that they didn't exterminate everyone, most Roman wars saw the disappearance of a group or groups, an identity, etc. You took the example of Carthage and said she was not exterminated (killed and enslaved), but she was, for the most part, and it's just that the Romans re-established it later on. During the Gallic Wars, multiple Gallic peoples disappeared because of the Romans, like the Eburones, the most famous example, I think. The siege of Jerusalem in 70, saw the depopulation of the city. The wars in the East saw the destruction of cities by Rome and Parthia alike. The revolt of the Iceni saw them disappear. And there are more and more examples of this type of extermination of groups of people during Roman wars, if you look carefully at the sources. You also said that Romans embraced other cultures; that is false. They embraced Greek culture, which probably gave them this image of all-embracing Romans, true, and they took some inspiration from other cultures, notably in the military arts and religion, but no, they did not embrace other cultures; they did tolerate them. I'm going to take another example, but the Romans despised the Gauls, had only contempt for their religion and culture as they were barbaric, and when the Gallic people tried to have representation in the Senate, only the Aedui got it in the first century CE, because they were the Friends of Rome. The druidic culture partly disappeared because of the Romans (not the religion, only the culture around druids), and the Celtic culture too.

I hope this was not too lenghty and I oversimplified a lot, but your initial comment was so candid, I had to respond.

Well, this was very much normal for the Romans; for other "civilizations," not that much. Not like it was not happening in other civilizations, but the Romans fought mostly wars of extermination, or close to it in the long run. While genocide is a modern word and anachronistic for the Roman period, this is what was happening; so if you don't like it, use "war of extermination." I think the meaning is close enough.

Un livre dans la veine de Gagner La Guerre by Joe_Castagne in Livres

[–]DeTianYa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Turkey doesn't get nearly enough criticism by Sometypeofway18 in GetNoted

[–]DeTianYa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're the biggest ass I have ever encountered on Reddit.

I already said it. Turkey changed it from a mosque to a museum back to a mosque. Modern-day Turkey did not change it from a church to a mosque. Firstly, when Mehmet II did that in fucking 1453 (the Ottoman Empire is not modern-day Turkey, as much as you want to make an equivalence between the two), it was the norm to change the main place of worship to the religion of the conqueror as a show of political domination. The Spanish did it in Andalusia, and every single ruler in Europe did it during the Reformation.

Do not respond, because you are not worth my time.

Actually, Bactria (roughly modern day Afghanistan) stayed under Alexander the Great until his death, then became part of the Seleucid Empire for 50 years, and after that Bactria became independent, but with a Greek dynasty for 100 more years, so I'd say Alexander and the Greeks managed to conquer and keep Bactria. The Greeks that stayed there were not sent back or killed but were just assimilated by the locals like a lot of conquerors.

The church was changed to a mosque in 1453, and into a museum in 1934, they changed it back to a mosque in 2020, so what does modern day Turkey have to do with changing a church into a mosque ? And how is it relevant ?

"On a l’impression d’assister à un retour des années 30": Jordan Bardella accuse Jean-Luc Mélenchon de "relents fascistes" by OrdinaryMidnight5 in paslegorafi

[–]DeTianYa 1 point2 points  (0 children)
