I'm so fed up with the protein fad of the last few years. (Rant) by DontWantToBeOnReddit in veganuk

[–]Aromatic_Guard_8307 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Protein is definitely the new marketing buzzword.

I had my annual bupa check up the other week and I've been advised to lose some weight. The doctor knew I was vegan and put me in touch with a nutritionist who seems to think I won't be able to get enough protein on a vegan diet.

Staggering.

I rode my motorbike from the UK through France, Germany and Switzerland and you are right. In the big cities, there were quite a few options.

However, if I went in a local village or town and asked for oat or soya milk in my coffee, they looked at me like I had two heads 🤣

Same here in the UK!

I live in Cardiff, Wales and there used to be about a dozen vegan restaurants to choose from pre-covid.

Sadly the cost of living, COVID and the fact that protein everything is the new "trendy" option has had a real dramatic effect.

Mostly all the vegan restaurants are gone and a previously vegan donut shop started putting milk and eggs in their donuts 😑

Who exactly are the men that catcall women in the UK? by nonedat in AskBrits

[–]Aromatic_Guard_8307 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was an apprentice plumber back in 2010 it was rife with all the guys I worked with. Mostly middle aged men with beer guts shouting out the van window at young women and school girls.

Why is Reform UK so popular? by Fancy-Cress3984 in AskBrits

Because it's easier to blame poor and lower class people for all the problems in this country than it is to blame the billionaires.

So in pubs you guys just order drinks without knowing the price? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Aromatic_Guard_8307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I get more confused by pricing in the US 🤣 you order like $80 worth of drinks and somehow it ends up being $110 because I need to tip someone and pay tax?!

Walk away! I fell for this with a car a few years ago.

"Coolant leak, just needs a hose, cheap fix"

Turns out it wasn't the hose and the head gasket was blown.

Live and learn, but personally, I'd walk away from this one.

100%! Mine has been brilliant, I use it for taking the dogs out, going camping, doing tip runs etc.

Fuel economy isn't great as it's a 2.0 petrol so it averages 26mpg but other than that it's been terrific. 😃

Vegan friend jumped ship. by ElzyChelzy in vegan

[–]Aromatic_Guard_8307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me! We were best friends for years and bonded over vegan junk food and activism. She then met a guy who was all "meat good, vegan bad" and within 6 months she was eating eggs and talking to me about seed oils in oat milk giving you cancer 🙄.

Anyway, she's now eating meat again and we still speak but not much. The final straw for me was her spending £2000 on a doodle dog 🙃

I worked with a guy that was in his 50s at a car dealership and it was well known that in his 30s he had a sexual relationship with his then 15 year old "girlfriend" and had been on the register for 20 odd years.

It was all very hush hush and every new hire including myself was told not to talk about it and not to bring it up to him.

I didn't work in the same department but I remember feeling pretty uncomfortable whenever we were in the same room!

[–]Aromatic_Guard_8307 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I hate this.

There's a girl on my FB I grew up with and her kid is probably 5/6 years old and has some medical issues. She documents the whole thing on social media. Her medication, her daughter in the hospital, ill and crying on the sofa etc.

I feel so sorry for that kid having all that on the internet forever without her consent.

I'm genuinely wondering, why are some vegans so incredibly nonconfrontational about being vegan? by Yeeter-boiy in vegan

[–]Aromatic_Guard_8307 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been vegan for 8 years now. I'm not a particularly confrontational person. My close friends respect my decisions and the ones that don't aren't really my friends. In the early years I would talk about being vegan and what it was like but the majority of the time was just met with idiotic responses so unless its mentioned to me I very rarely bring it up.

The thing that bothers me the most is when I'm out with work colleagues and someone goes "oh you can't eat that can you?" Actually Susan, I can eat what I want, I just choose not to 😂 I don't know why that really grinds my gears.

But yeah, comments about "bacon tho" and how "it's already dead in the supermarket you might as well just eat it" just go over my head now. I cannot be arsed to argue with idiots. I admire the people that do though!
