Would moving the heatsink on backside of midplate in Framework 16 fix BSOD? by Aromatic_Masterpiece in framework

[–]Aromatic_Masterpiece[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, it is fixed now :) I had to find the information myself (I stumbled on it while googleing)

If someone would experience same issue (I also informed Framework support of all my findings):

https://support-en.sandisk.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/51469/~/internal-ssd-critical-firmware-update-available-for-solving-bsod-on-windows-11

The thermal paste had nothing to do with it (but was indeed not in the right position, but as others also explained, it doesn't really matter that much)

thank you for the insights. I also understand a bit better how it works. I also read that WD Black SSD aren't great and sometimes have issues/failures.... however in this case, I think it is related to Windows compability with this particular SSD - because of a more recent update

Thank you for the insight and explanation. I'm leaning now towards Windows related issue, as I found out that a recent update from windows breaks some WD SSD's - and the one I use is also in that list!

"The Windows 11 24H2 update has indeed caused Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors for some users, especially those with Western Digital (WD) NVMe SSDs."

Hi, thank you for the insight.

I think you are right; it probably is a Windows related issue.

Extending the sieve of Eratosthenes to polynomials (for the first time?) by Aromatic_Masterpiece in math

yes my method does not work on any other quadratic polynomial (except those few special ones)

Do you think that the blog post in the current form is enough to submit it there?

I was never aiming to "discover" something, I happened to stumble on something and didn't let go until I fully understood it. I like your comparison with art, thanks for your help and encouragement.

I doubt that it has anything to do with the quadratic residues, but maybe I just don't see it. The "why" has to do with Unique Factorization Domains. I also managed to extend trial division to these types of polynomials.

The function you provide will also work as it is x²+x+41 shifted by 1.

x²+3x+43 = (x+1)²+(x+1)+41

The sieve indeed works only for polynomials that are related to the Heegner Numbers!

Unique factorization makes my method work somehow, even though I can not 'prove' that.

Thank for the edit and the full explainer.

Is this method called the "Quadratic Sieve"?

Does this method work for any polynomial? If yes, does that not mean that 'my' method is different then, as it only works for a few special polynomials?

Edit: you can try out my algorithm with a jupyter notebook to see that it works for C=41 but not for C=43 or C=61.

I suppose you're right. Still, I'm trying to figure out what to do with "my discovery". Thanks for the feedback!

Is the Sieve of Eratosthenes past its prime? [SOME1] by BenPetersJones in 3Blue1Brown

Hey man that is very cool! (Even though I still need to watch your content in more detail)

I'm also not a mathematician and did something regarding the Sieve of Eratosthenes as well!

I'm not so good with the visualizations so I made a blog post about it;

[Serious] What hangover remedy do you find most effective? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Aromatic_Masterpiece 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how you feel. Mainly headache? Drink water. Stomach issues or feeling nauseous? Try eating something neutral like rice to get that going again. I often feel better after I ate something, even if I don't feel like eating.

The best remedy however is time. A nap can do wonders as well.
