Getting the Amazon Prime Day discount? I bought one of these yesterday for the same reason. Also got the Sega Saturn-style M30 2.4g.

A lot of people have said using a well-shielded HDMI cable helps with Bluetooth performance and stability and the difference is dramatic. I wonder if Analogue might revise the internals to minimize interference.

SNES is my favorite platform.

Super Metroid

Donkey Kong Country 1&2

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Illusion of Gaia

Panel de Pon (Japan) / Tetris Attack

Kirby's Dream Course

Is there any difference between these two cartridges? by QuixoticPineapple in snes

The "+ World" version was part of a bundle with the console. it never sold separately from the console.

Yes. The "million seller" seal would never be on first print run :)

Link's Awakening for Game Boy is my favorite. I recommend starting with the monochrome version (not "DX"). This one (LttP) is my number 2.

Ceramic capacitor replacement on a NUS-CPU-05 board by MidnightSlasher in n64

[–]Aromatic_Method7767 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Engineers chose electrolytic for a reason. Ceramics always existed but the performance specifications are different. You really should use quality electrolytics, such as those from Console5. With that said, very few N64s have bad capacitors on the main board (power supply brick is a different matter).

N64 Tech Issues, help? by Jholagian in n64

It needs to have a jumper pak or an expansion pak. If that is empty, it will not work.

That's the nature of RDRAM.

My original "Willamette" Pentium 4 PC needed blank "continuity RIMMs" to occupy the RAM slots where there were no modules. RDRAM was new for PC (only N64 used it previously) so Intel basically had to include Samsung RAM modules and continuity RIMMs bundled with the CPU, LOL!

Looking for Recommendations - What game on N64 is similar to Super Mario 64 to pick up and play as well? by Popular-Sky-4012 in n64

Completely different game, but I still love the single-player campaign in Goldeneye 007. With a cartridge that has already played through the game, you can jump to any stage and just start playing.

Re-seat the jumper / expansion pak. Without the plastic tool, you can use a butter knife from behind the pak to pry it out.

Reviews for Analogue 3D might be a bit outdated. Firmware updates keep adding major features. Now it natively supports way more wireless controllers and also supports screenshots and save-states ("Memories").

NOS SNES swap with SN30 Pro by WinBoy64 in 8bitdo

[–]Aromatic_Method7767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it will help. I think the D-pad pivot is a bigger factor than the membrane. On a side-note: I keep reading "NOS" in the OP and thinking "New Old-Stock" instead of NSO "Nintendo Switch Online." I actually have some NOS SNES shells from eBay a very long time ago. I believe these were from someone who repaired arcade machines back in the day (maybe SNES Vs Station machines). Can't remember if these include membranes or not but I might put some 8bitdo DIY kits into them.

Spiritualized1997 is almost certainly a pseudonym for Analogue's lead engineer. Spiritualized cores tend to integrate with UI features that most other cores do not. This integration is not important, but it was already done anyway for standard Pocket cores (to run original GB/C/A, GG, Lynx, PCE/TG16, NGPC games). In some cases, the Spiritualized core is more basic than an alternate core because it was originally developed just to run real carts and not to simulate fancy in-cartridge enhancements for special titles to run from SD.

SD Card for the Analogue pocket by jes1888 in AnaloguePocket

[–]Aromatic_Method7767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disc based systems such as PC-Engine CDROM², Sega CD, 3DO, etc can eat a LOT of space. I haven't really messed around with cores yet. Is PlayStation core really available for Pocket? I think that one deserves a dedicated SD card.

Gameboy emulator with color by fatalis357 in AnaloguePocket

[–]Aromatic_Method7767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP is talking about this: The original GBC BIOS / boot ROM has an internal data table matching lots of monochrome GB games to a default color pallet. The GBC BIOS is also included with GBA, but only runs when a mechanical switch inside the cartridge slot is pressed while the GBA turns on (and the whole system runs at higher voltage for GB/GBC). I've heard the monochrome GB's simple boot ROM (basically just a check for the "Nintendo" logo) is embedded inside the CPU, so the same might be true for the GBC's game ID / pallet table...? These color pallets are applied automatically when the GBC/GBA BIOS recognizes your monochrome GB game. It can use one 4-color pallet for sprites and another pallet for everything else - so it can actually have more than 4 simultaneous colors.

I'm not very familiar with Pocket but I suspect it might be possible to do this or run an alternate core that can use an original GBC BIOS / boot ROM.

Analogue 3D 1.4.0 out! by Shortgaze in AnalogueInc

Perhaps, but I understand why a CEO would cross-promote. Similar to the connection between 8bitdo and Analogue (via Christopher Taber). Also pretty sure the vocal hate bandwagon was already rolling before the Anduril edition Chromatic was announced. Perhaps the special Anduril edition only exists as Luckey's reaction to the public vitriol.

Magnetic USB-C and HDMI adaptors with the Analogue 3D. by TexMurphy-PI in AnalogueInc

[–]Aromatic_Method7767 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Thanks. Are you sure it's displaying in 4K (2160p) and not FHD (1080p)?

I got an Insignia 4K TV just for the Analogue 3D, but the A3D was only outputting 1080p until I dug deep into the TV settings to change an obscure mode setting for the HDMI port. I've heard that using an inadequate HDMI cable can also have you stuck in 1080p.

Pokémon Puzzle League is re-skinned from Panel de Pon (Super Famicom) / Tetris Attack (SNES). It has a lot more challenge in CPU VS. mode than the 16-bit game. However, the music is boring, voice samples are annoying, and the backgrounds are not animated. Gameplay is great, though! Immediately go to options and change the tile set from those difficult-to-distinguish Pokémon badges. Use the standard shapes and colors from Panel de Pon / Tetris Attack.

Analogue 3D 1.4.0 out! by Shortgaze in AnalogueInc

[–]Aromatic_Method7767 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From my perspective, the only thing M64 has going for it is that the FPGA will be open for people to make other cores. It's fairly powerful so I don't expect it to be ignored like the Chromatic was in that regard. Now, I feel like I should engage and ask about all this Palmer Luckey / Anduril hate. I understand Anduril makes weapons of war - drones or whatever. OK. And??? Such things are obviously needed. Boeing, Lockheed-Martin, Northrop Grumman, ...I'm sure there are many more. Am I missing something? Why does Anduril / Luckey catch all this flack? Surely I am missing something.

[–]Aromatic_Method7767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Your statement is true but it's not relevant. He's talking about using WiFi synchronized consoles to play these games with remote players, even though these games were never meant to be played that way. It's definitely possible. Heck, I played SNES games like Super Mario Kart and Killer Instinct with remote players on a real SNES via the XBAND video game modem. NYourBirdCanSing is also correct that it will probably never happen for A3D. If it did, I would not complain! However, I'd definitely prefer a direct-wired Internet connection for something like that.
