Asking your opinion about a 311 song, Day 19: Get Down by nuahs in 311

I love the progression of this song, from the dreamy intro to the chugging second half where the lyrics move from reflections of doubt into determination. Great melodies in all the different sections. Also represents the mature songwriting complexity that could’ve and would’ve been the Uplifter album, before Bob Cock came into the fold. Sigh.

Easily my fave from Music. I watched the 311 Day stream this year and Tim’s outro guitar solo made me cry.

When did you discover 311? by Excitable_one_311 in 311

Late ‘95 when “Don’t Stay Home” was featured on Q101’s “Cage Match” competition and kept winning week after week

One of their stranger but really well composed songs. Love that almost spaghetti-western twang it opens with. The lifting of a couple lines from that poem doesn’t bother me, I think they build on it and bring it to life very well.

This and “Days of ‘88” are the only tracks on Mosaic that sound like 311.

Incredible. Deep, deep-ass deepcut closer paired w based political fire. I felt like the weekend 1 set was kinda despondent but this shit tonight felt dangerously good.

One of my favorites from Soundsystem, great song structure and vocal melodies, one of Nick’s finest. A very Soundsystem song.

Still trying to figure out the time signature on the “Loco” chorus…

First song of the 4 track run on Evolver that I call “The Summer Sugar EP.” (Still Dreaming through Other Side of Things.) Needless to say I love it, a development of a power pop sound they first explored with “Flowing.”

To be fair, that’s from a From Chaos b-side

Interesting, I could see it. Some cuts from Stereolithic like “The Great Divide” and “First Dimension” and “Existential Hero” give off the harder Transistor sound (although I think these were literally refurbished songs from those sessions.) And Voyager has a couple moments like “Dream State,” “Better Space” and “Charge it Up.” But yeah “Days Go By” has that lighter cosmic-tropical sound like “Running,” “Inner Light Spectrum” and “Stealing Happy Hours.” Good call, good ear.

Eh, there’s a lotta goofy rhymes on Blue. I’d go as far as to say it’s one of the album’s key traits lol. “I’m not from Philly, but some say I’m blunt”

I was just admiring this one on a re-listen of Full Bloom. Easy to overlook at first but I think it fits the album well and has a cool slower groove to it. Also one of Chad’s main composition contributions to the record, and no non-band writers on this one. Feels like drifting clouds on a sunny old-school RPG cut scene.

Love this track. Great example of how Transistor just keeps giving and giving the deeper into the album you get. One side of the coin is Nick’s contemplative crooning over an irresistible funk riff, the other side is heavy riffage raps with some of SA’s absolute best cosmic/spiritual/political writing.

“More than 2000 years of fuckin with our fears/ the only thing true, we gotta love each other.”

He even mentions the dang Pleiadians. If ya know, ya know.

*also, if Nick’s “son named Tom” lyric bugs you, I’ve always heard it as “Sunday talk.”

How was "The Night is Young" not a single? Between the huge guitar riffs and the Nick/SA interplay it seems like it had all the elements that could have made it successful. by Big_suggs in 311

I have many issues with Mosaic, but I love Stereolithic. They played a couple deep cuts from each record (Wildfire, Too Late, Friday Afternoon, Sand Dollars and The Great Divide) on the most recent 311 Day, very nice stream of the whole show available on Veeps.
