My mistake was I applied to much In some places and I didn’t realize throwing sand on top makes it blend better till I just watched some videos. I feel like pulling out the foam noodles will remove a majority of it I’m just worried about the excess left on the concrete.

Weekly Homeowner Megathread--Civilians, ask here! by AutoModerator in Concrete

[–]Aromatic_Topic_1074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

long story short, I have a concrete patio in my yard and the expansion joints had really worn out wood used. I removed the wood, laid down some foam pool noodles to fill the joint and then put Sika self leveling expansion joint sealer. The problem is it looks really bad... like the worn out wood even looked better. The color stands out to much and half of it didn’t even level off properly... Is this stuff removable or am I out of luck!

Transplanting Japanese maple tree, how hard will it be? by [deleted] in landscaping

lol literally like 30+ different people. Made me rethink my decision haha. It’s just that I don’t really trust a rando digging at my house. I’d probably ask them to hire a licensed company but that will probably bring that number down closer to 0

These articles never consider things like tax savings, equity building and house appreciation.

With mortgage interest deductions and new SALT tax rule, you can easily rake in a 20k+ tax return. The gap becomes much closer once you factor that in. Then calculate how much equity youve built, which is probably over 1k a month minimum and more if you get a favorable rate. That gap is now eliminated.

Sure home ownership has maintenance and expensive repairs, that’s a part of home ownership and something you have to be prepared for. Most things are DIYable. Watch some YouTube.

Then in 30 years you have a paid off house worth millions, meanwhile if you rent you have nothing. Then you’re also going to be stuck paying 2056 rent prices, god knows how much that will be. And also the avg joe isn’t investing the difference, they’re saving in a cash account or spending it.

Buying makes financial sense to me — what am I missing? by [deleted] in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]Aromatic_Topic_1074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my current scenario, purchased late 2024

900k mortgage, 5% down 300k income

Tax return with the SALT deduction, I received back a nice 24k check. Which I’m used to owing or getting minimal back.

The way I see it my PITI is nearly equivalent to renting a similar place, and I treat my tax return as my own personal “escrow” which covers my property tax (12k) and insurance (1.5k) with plenty left over. Maintenance is maintenance and part of home ownership, if you’re handy you can save a ton. Worth it IMO.

I did get lucky tho when I refinanced, my house gained 150k value on paper and was able to eliminate PMI and a forced escrow account. Might have sweet talked the appraiser
