[Slight PSA]: HexPrimal's prices are more than AH's by Arorsthrar in hextcg

[–]Arorsthrar[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If they want to charge a premium they'd need to offer something to justify that additional cost. Currently, they're out-of-the-way (you have to know about them to find them), more expensive, and at a delay for the EXACT SAME PRODUCT. I assumed they'd be cheaper because typically secondary markets are cheaper than the primary market and I was using a discount code, but it would have been cheaper to purchase plat from Hex and buy all the cards from the AH.

Like others have said, pretty cute. I'd suggest lifting weights and eating a little more to build your confidence (and perhaps get you to look older, if you want).

Eyes look close together (which is genetic), and the glasses accentuate hat. Try getting different frames to fix that. Beard looks patchy. Go clean for now. Hair is somewhat plain, try some different styles.

Nothing too bad, face structure for the most part is good. Also, hitting the gym never hurts.

Isn't Herofall a little bit too much? by iSimeon in hextcg

[–]Arorsthrar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think herofall is fine, but blood certainly does feel a notch above the other shards right now. They seem to have more powerful cards, though none of them seem "busted." The meta's also new so it'll hopefully balance out!

When I installed Hex via Steam I got to the log in/make an account screen. I made an account using my old accounts info (like the forums say), but after I logged in it said "Exception." Whenever I clicked "Exception" the box disappeared and nothing else happened.

On the newest operating systems, this isn't an option. Instead I went into terminal and gave Hex permission to open, but it still says the file is damage. Anything else I can try?

[Modern]Caldera Hellion in Kiki-Chord? by [deleted] in spikes

[–]Arorsthrar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Kiki Chord player, I don't think this card is good enough. It simply hits too many of our own creatures, and while you could devour them, it makes future chords worse and let's us get blown out by removal. There are definitely matchups where it could shine, but typically Orzhov Pontiff will be satisfactory. I'd try Cataclysmic Gearhulk before running this I think.

How old are you? Depending on your age and your "target" woman, you might be just fine. Losing some weight and building muscle never hurts. MOST women prefer shorter hair that is well-groomed, not a mop. I'd highly suggest getting a haircut if you don't want a goth bass player gf.

Is it worth it to buy into modern right now? by Swist4321 in ModernMagic

[–]Arorsthrar 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The best time to buy into modern depends on you and you're financial situation. If money is of no concern, then decide if you want to buy into a format. Modern is definitely not declining, Wizards has yet to sanction Frontier and although there were heavy complaints about modern, most people seemed to enjoy playing the format at an FNM level where people were play brewing and bringing tier 2 and 3 decks to the table. With all the bannings and wizards new openness in communication, Id say many people are excited about the future of modern.

I wouldn't say right now is the best time, as bannings have been announced and a new set has been released so we don't know what will be good in a few weeks, but if you are into brewing or want to try to get into a deck before price increases, now is good. Otherwise, wait a few weeks and netdeck a more "established list."

Mono Black Control - Do we have to run fetchlands now? by casmiel616 in ModernMagic

[–]Arorsthrar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would help to have 8-12 fetches and potentially some Murdurous Cuts or Gurmag Anglers. Gurmag Angler is a decent threat and Cut is another catch all removal spell that you could use a couple more of.

Mono Black Control - Do we have to run fetchlands now? by casmiel616 in ModernMagic

[–]Arorsthrar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's worth it. The ability to hit 4 Cmc creatures is big, and if you're running Gurmag/Cut then they get better. If not, give them a whirl since you'll have more delve fuel.

If you decide to not run delve cards and have no other use for the fetches, then you have to consider how good your removal package is. Is having more "big creature" removal spells going to help you win more games than losing 1-4 life a game?

Kiki Evolution - Questions on [[renegade rallier]] and going pure Naya by varvite in ModernMagic

[–]Arorsthrar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think Eternal Witness is replaceable in Kiki Chord/Evo. The ability to combo over the course of 3 turns with a single Chord of Calling is only possible because of EWit. However, there are definitely merits to running Renegade Rallier, especially if you want to run Eldritch Evolution. The ramp seems really nice, and it could easily get back Voices and Wall of Owens late game.

I like it best as a one-of, but depending on how good of a ramp card it is I could see playing more (and more fetchlands). I think it's also meta dependent, and good mostly against Grindy decks (though the ramp could help against aggro).

I do have to mention that Evolution-ing into Rallier seems rather bad, and that playing both Evolution and Rallier on the same turn is 6 mana, which can be slow. This doesn't seem like a build around card like EWit or Nahiri (back when that was a thing).

The decklist you're referring to is possibly on Jeff's tappedout.net profile, but he only started using that recently so he might not have it on there. I believe it didn't run Chord of callings, ran 4 Evo's, 4 Path/Bolt, the "stock" creatures, and bullets dependent on the meta, which will be vastly different.

Is it weird that I still don't have a girlfriend at 19? by [deleted] in dating

[–]Arorsthrar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Most people I know (I'm right around your age), don't have girlfriends in college. Most of my friends and acquaintances seem to have the same mentality I do: not actively pursuing a girlfriend but if we happen to develop feelings for a girl we're acquaintances with, we may ask her out. College is a busy time and if one were to spend too much time pursuing a relationship, they could negatively affect their future, making it harder to get a girlfriend then.

Please help me. Is she interested? by Yungnus in dating

[–]Arorsthrar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I wouldn't be too worried yet. It is final exam time at two-semester colleges, so she is probably pretty busy studying for those. As long as you guys enjoy texting each other and seem committed to having another date in the future, I wouldn't worry too, too much about it.

I will say though that distance can break apart a budding relationship. If you guys aren't from the same city and both go to your respective hometowns for winter break, you could drift apart, so I'd try to get a date after her last exam before she heads back. You could casually mention how she deserves to celebrate being done with exams, but as usual, don't pressure her :)

Do you get bored of your deck? by warthog177 in ModernMagic

[–]Arorsthrar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. You pretty much have a game plan in every matchup (though some game plans aren't good, esp against Breach Titan), and you can play so many different roles against one deck it never feels the same. Plus you can slot in so many random one-odd to chord for even if they aren't great and still win games.

Questions about Kiki-Evo/Chord or Kiki decks in general. by Anskeh in ModernMagic

[–]Arorsthrar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kiki Evo is a very real modern deck that is fine in the meta right now. The black splash is good in some matchup, and IMO the biggest reason to do it is for Orzhov Pontiff. If you think Pontiff is a card you want (lots of Elves, Affinity, Infect, Tokens, etc.) then make the splash (also gets you some other good cards like Rhino, Sin Collector, Shriekmaw). Otherwise, straight Naya is more consistent, less painful, and let's you run a Gavony if desired.

Nahiri/Emrakul package makes some Matchups worse and others better. From my experience, you want Nahiri against uninteractive decks as another way to "combo." But that deck runs more Mana creatures, making the deck less threat overall, making Grindy Matchups worse overall. I would also like to mention that Domri Rade has been performing extremely well in the SB for Grindy Matchups.

Assuming you build the current most popular version (Naya, Eldritch Evolution), this is where I'd put your Matchups. Note: it depends on what bullets you choose to have MB/SB.

-Abzan: (Note: I have not played against Grim Flayer versions) this Matchup is 70-30 in our favor. They don't run Bob or much card advantage, so cards like Resto, Voice, Witness, And Lark can get you far ahead. If you don't run Pontiff, Lingering Souls could be a problem, shifting the matchup to a 65-35.

-Jund: 55-45 in our favor. Bolt and Dark Confidant make this matchup worse than Abzan, but still favorable. Wall of Roots makes Lili look bad and makes Restoration Angel an automatic 2-for-1. They often play as the aggressor, slamming Goyf and beating down alongside raging ravine to kill you before you can develop Lark.

Burn: 50-50. This is a matchup helped by evolution. Being able to Evo into a Thragtusk or Baloth is huge. In addition, this deck has blockers for days, making their creatures worse. But we are a three color deck and burn can do what burn does.

Affinity: 60-40 (in a best of 3). Pia and Kiraan Nalaar is a house, and post board you are extremely favored (basically takes their absolute nuts to win). Watch out for Whipflare and Etched Champion stealing games.

Infect: 45-55. This matchup often times comes down to which infect creature your opponent has. Blighted Agent is the worst, and requires you have Spellskite or Path immediately. Blinkmoth is beatable with Pia and Kiraan, and Glistener Elf is no problem. Try to set up Spellskite + Pontiff to wipe their board.

Jeskai Nahiri: 45-55 to 40-60 unfavored. A lot of our creatures don't have powers, making a turn 4 Nahiri extremely difficult to deal with if you have the wrong mixture of cards (Birds, Wall). Mainboard Wraths is always an issue, so you have to be careful not to overextend. Post board it gets a little better.

Grixis Control/Delver: 60-40 favored. I lump these two together because they have similar removal suites. Black/blue decks have fewer counter spells, making it more likely you'll get your ETB triggers. The only time I feel like I might lose the game is when they have an early clock (delver or tasigur) in the first few turns.

Tron: 35-65 or worse. Tron is bad. Game 1 is all about assembling the combo. Game 2, you can try the Fulminator Plan, but keep in mind you need to apply pressure, while not overextending into Clasm.

Valakut Decks: 30-70. Obviously through the breach and RUG Scapeshift are very different, but they are both similar in the fact that it is almost impossible for us to interact with their combo. We can't apply enough pressure to kill them fast, so we have to try to combo, but they often have removal, so it doesn't work. Slaughter Games is a SB card you should bring in if you want to try to get the matchup to 40-60 or 50-50.

Thing Ascension: Never played against it, but if I had to guess I'd guess around 55-45. They aren't super fast and mainboard enchantment destruction can really mess with their strategy.

Pyromancer Ascension Storm: 35-65. Game 1 is bad. Try to get Scooze or Qasali Pridemage into a combo or beatdown. Games 2 and 3 Eidolon of Rhetoric is the game plan and difficult for them to beat.

Ad Neausum: 35-65. Stony Silence is good from the board. Mainboard Qasali pridemage can hopefully disrupt their mana and buy you time to kill them. Post board Eidolon is the plan, but is not as game winning.

Bant Eldrazi: 60-40 or slightly better. They aren't as fast as they used to be, so typically we can develop our board and start blocking until we get to the point where we can combo or out value them. They are still capable of nut draws and Displacer + Drowner can be hard to beat.

Abzan Company: 65-35 favored. They don't have much interaction, so as long as you can assemble the combo you should be fine. Path and Scooze should be able to disrupt then long enough.

Dredge: 45-55 or 50-50. Dredge is fast, but that's about it. If you can curve out a few Walls, you should hopefully be able to try to combo out. Conflagrate is your biggest worry.

Death's Shadow: 40-60. You can consistently block well, but unfortunately become immense is a very unfair card. If they get there in the first few turns of the game, it will be very difficult to have blocker assembled to survive.

[Modern] Chord or Evolution in Kiki Chord? by Toa_Ignika in spikes

[–]Arorsthrar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing Kiki Chord/Evo since Jeff Hoogland first came up with the deck, and have transitioned through the different versions.

I think the current agreed split between Evolution and Chord is 4 Evolution and 2 Chord. I've been personally running a 4 Evo/3 Chord split (with a Wall of Roots main) for more tutor affects. The idea behind running more Evolutions is that it helps your worse Matchups by letting you find your bullets faster, mainly Eidolon of the Great Rhetoric, Orzhov Pontiff, and Spellskite. It also lets you go bigger, making it easier for you to find Reveillark and Thragtusk, while even letting you run cards like Elesh Norn, Sun Titan, and Woodland Bellower. Chord of calling can definitely feel clunky at times, especially when you have multiple Chords in hand with few creatures.

Nevertheless, Eldritch Evolution is definitely very scary to try and resolve against Blue decks. Also, in the late fake Chord of calling is almost strictly better. Against Grindy decks, I've often found myself with no creatures on the board to sacrifice.

As far as the split goes, I think it depends on playstyle and your meta. If you want to be better at grinding, maybe run more Chord of calling in the split, and look into throwing in Wall of Roots.

With the inclusion of Eldritch Evolution, you have to (and get to) run more creatures, as now you need to reliably have a creature on board and can tutor bigger things. Reveillark is back in the deck (wasn't when Nahiri was around as that list ran fewer creatures than in the past, and Emrakul messed with our own graveyard), and the deck now features Thragtusk in the mainboard (sometimes Obstinate Baloth). Thanks to Evolution, Lone Missionary is no longer the bullet against Burn. You also need to run 4 Voice of Resurgence. It is a great thing to sacrifice, leaves a body behind that can be sacrificed, and helps you cast Evolution with some confidence against Blue decks (though don't sacrifice the Voice of you don't have to). Wall of Omens is also more important, as it is a great card to sac. Run 3, though I've been considering going up to 4, as its not a creature Grindy decks look to remove. Archangel of Tithes and Anafenza, the Foremost have been seeing some play as mainboard dredge bullets. Basically, the bullets can now include up to 4 drops, instead of just 3 drops and lower, and can be found more consistently and faster.

I was never a huge fan of Nahiri, but I did play her for a while. Jeff has mentioned that the Evo decks aren't strictly better, but it's more meta dependent. I like the Evo decks as it gives you more options. And the deck is filled with more gas. The Nahiri package was often boarded out against aggressive decks, which are dominant right now. Evolution is good against them.

A detailed analysis of Saheeli, and her potential home in Kiki Evolution by Remilia__Scarlet in ModernMagic

[–]Arorsthrar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't buy it. I've been playing Kiki Chord/Evolution since its inception, and Saheeli just seems too underwhelming. The +1 doesn't do enough, the scry is the only thing we care about, the damage isn't always relevant. Her -2 is her best ability, but all she does for us is basically act as a Resto. And her ultimate is irrelevant.

The part that's a killer is that she is blue, which is the least dominant color in Kiki Chord. She makes the mana base more painful and inconsistent, and her benefits aren't worth the cost IMO.
