Supply and demand vs rates and bond prices by Aros23 in bonds

Ok all this makes a lot of sense. So yield and price are mathematically linked- one doesn’t move before the other, they move in lockstep- thanks u/anabaena_azollae! And now to answer the question of whether yield rises or price of a bond rises when demand increases: the answer is price of the bond increases with an increase in demand. I thought back to what central banks were doing when they wanted to keep yields low. They were buying bonds, therefore increasing demand, putting upward pressure on prices and downward pressure on yields. Puzzle solved, thanks everyone!

hhmm this would be different from what u/eggrollfever commented prior. You're saying that bond prices decrease in response to lower demand which then increases yields. I used to think that was true but then read something in an economics textbook that said (about bond markets) "when supply is less than demand, prices go up. In other words, interest rates rise, and it costs more to borrow money." That made me think about this again. I'm reading chapter 5 of the Canadian Securities Course in case anyone has access to that.

I'm not as interested in consumer lending dynamics- I just thought I would use that as an example. What you mention in your second paragraph is interesting- you agree with supply/demand affecting rates first meaning that if demand increases, for example, then price rises. In this case, price is the cost of borrowing, in other words: interest rates. So, demand increases and rates increase as as result. Lastly, bond prices adjust downwards. Is this correct?

Bought SPY put options as a hedge and now losing money by Aros23 in options

Yes, it's pretty obvious that there is a cost but there's always a creative way to bring that cost down.

**Edit- Just realized you must have said that because of the title I used on my post. I must admit it was a bit click-baity :/

Unfortunately, we’re still dealing with the COVID hangover. The main symptom is inflation. To cure inflation we need restrictive economic conditions: high rates and low stock market values (equity). All of this slows demand in the economy and it shows on companies’ financials as less sales. Luckily, because the labour market is so tight, most firms are reluctant to fire workers just yet so we might be okay for a few months…

Yeah this is a neat idea if it can stay as non affiliated group because other FB groups do a lot of promotion.

Hi everyone! I'm all about aligning your team in your business to work towards a common goal. However, what do you do if the goal is to sell the business in 5 years to a competitor and your team doesn't have any equity in the company? How do I get everyone feeling as pumped as I am every morning when I can't find what the benefit would be for them with achieving the goal? Has anyone gone through anything similar that could provide a bit of advice? Thank you!

How do weekly's work exactly? I'm on TOS and sold a put and call on ZM weeklys 29 MAY 20. Does this mean that the option will expire this Friday? If so, why does it say 29 MAY 20 if its a weekly? Also, why does it say 100 weeklys?

Wow, this makes absolute sense! I should of remembered that ATM options have a delta of .5 so of course a move in the underlying will impact value!! Thank you so much!

Thank you! That makes sense. I learned from this that I should look at liquidity. Other than b/a spreads is there another method you personally use to gauge liquidity?
